Hey! I don't know if this is the best place to post this but I wanted to thank the people in charge for the holiday event. It was so nice seeing people swarming otherwise abandoned zones and helping each other with the quests :) For the part in ToFS in particular, I saw (and received) so much help for traveling through floors and obtaining the pages.
That is all.
Thank you :)

I wish it was the same on Green. On Green, I have been trying to bring a group of newbies through Sol A for the last week - with no success. Every 5 minutes, a new level 60 storms in and clears the zone. We have averaged 5 kills every 15 minutes. Of course, this causes them to log off and want to try again another time.
But any other time of day is the same. I'm hoping they still want to play on the server after the event is over, but I have a feeling they have had their fill with the end-game population here.

Wouldn't that be a violation of the PNP on the servers?

Why would you see that an event is happening that requires drops from a low level zone and then choose that zone to try to xp in during that event? It's like you're intentionally setting yourself up to be disappointed.

In my time, when a high level came through a place like blackburrow I stood in awe of their awesome armor and whatever their inspect window message might be, their cool surname, and their amazing looking weapons. Man what a treat to see a high rolling boss cruise through. The world was bigger then, though. The wiki less complete.

Yeah, what a jerk! This server is for no-lifes who want to scum quest rewards by repeating it on each of their 12 alts - not for casuals who want to have fun.
You tell em, Tethler!

I mean, I'm not sure what other people were doing but, my monk friend and I leveled to 35 there no problem during the event. From like, 29 to 35.
We just had piles of rotting corpses for the 60's to come take the items and leave, so they rarely actually took our mobs. We camped from the gateway into basically everything past it. Never really impacted us that much.
The more bodies we had the faster we could cycle 60's to get the fuck outta the zone and most people were pretty chill to just buff us and let us kill stuff and they'd loot and leave.

I tried to do this with my group of friends, but what kept happening was: new 60 would run into zone and run right past us and up ahead of us and start clearing. We'd send a tell and they'd apologize - but the mobs were dead and 16.5 mins til respawn. So we'd move and try a location a little further into zone. But then as we'd get set up, another 60 would run into zone, run right past us and start killing in front of us.
This kept happening, at all times we tried. We pled with literally dozens of players to leave some stuff up for us to kill - but they would all be done by the time we reached any agreements.
It was just a never-ending train of players coming in and doing this. 99% of them were unintentionally leapfrogging us to clear spawns. But because they'd be in and out of the zone in a few minutes, we could never actually reach any sort of agreement with any of the players on which camp we were claiming. Any time we tried, we encountered a new player who just got there and hadn't seen us claim the camp. And they'd run in front of us and clear respawns as they were happening.
One of my friends had their fill with p99 because of the event. He said that most people on the server below level 60 are really enjoyable to play with - but having a glimpse into the mindset of the average hardcore player made him want to disassociate himself from this server.
Maybe I can talk them into TLPs, or maybe they will come back to p99 in a few weeks. I hope
repeatable dragonwing mantles was def a mistake but i can't think of a single GM event in the history of the game that doesn't turn whatever zone it's being held in into a shitshow during it so the traffic in Sol A would still be an issue
i don't understand how someone could rage quit over it though, should of taken your grp 10 minutes to guilt trip every 60 coming into the zone into fully buffing your group and porting you guys to Gfay to go xp in Mistmoore or someshit.

It was the opposite of a rage quit. It was a disheartened quit.

it's a fun server, but i have no interest in trying to progress any further. maybe we can try a more casual game next time

People will say this place is casual friendly, and then tell everyone new to shoehorn themselves into the same 4 zones.
"Sol A is off limits, go to Mistmoore instead"
"Want to explore this wonderful game and all of its offerings? Nah, min-max and just jump on the exp superhighway to 60 and warmbody raids for loot you'll never need because you don't actually do anything in game except for collect DKP"
etc, etc.
"Sol A is off limits, go to Mistmoore instead"
honestly, yes?
"and people suggest shoehorning into the same 4 zones"
well the servers are pretty dead pop wise and the popular spots are popular for a reason, to find other people to grp with quickly when you login
but if you've already formed a group, during a event that's gonna cause issues for a grind session in whatever zone, maybe take advantage of
There is currently a 50 percent bonus to loot and XP!
Happy holidays!
and go explore this wonderful game? and all of its offerings? Nah, let's forum post about it.
like i 100% blame the chaperone of that group and new player for having a bad experience, not the lvl 60s doing the xmas event

didn't see it was Green not Blue until just now so pop argument applies less i guess, but the main point still stands

While I do sympathize with your situation, I tend to agree with this.

I mean again, personally, I was also on green. My friend and I duo'd from like 27 to 35 or something in Sol A during the event during primetime with no issue.
Honestly if anything it was probably more likely us that was holding the zone down and taking the mobs, most of the higher levels that came through got their skins/plants from us.

I haven't said thanks already to everyone involved in producing the event it was wild from my perspective. I know one of the lucky title winners too and he got the coolest one imo.
Thank you guides!

Ecko was a bit rough on the delivery, but this is an OPEN WORLD game and there are a large number of exp spots for any given level range. Sol A is indeed an awesome zone, but like with any other camp, the moment you get blocked, you need to reroute or you're stuck waiting.
Sol A is right next to a druid ring, I think re-mobilizing would have taken less time and frustration for you and your crew. Hosting a crew is HARD work, I always have a plan B (and often a C) when coordinating my crews.
If you can convince your friends to try again, I strongly suggest you read this little gem:

That is not the same 4 zones we all know, it is a massive listing of everything from solo camps to group camps.

Thanks for the suggestions - and if the circumstances had been different I would tend to agree.
But the issue was not that when we entered Sol A it was swarmed by higher level players clearing the zone. That would be understandable, given the event. We would have not even bothered to try and EXP in a zone that was being cleared before we got there.
No - instead the issue that the times we entered Sol A while it was empty, and set up a camp spot. And then high level players would stroll into zone and walk RIGHT PAST our group and start killing everything surrounding us, including mobs respawning in our camp, leaving us no mobs to kill.
The incident that caused my friend to not want to play p99 anymore: was when we were camped at foreman and our respawns were due to start - so we ran up to fight the predator PH who just respawned. Then some level 60 monk came in and ran right past us, and cleared the respawns in the foreman room - and then ran out of the foreman room, up the stairs, ran past us again and killed the mobs that had just respawned outside of the predator hallway and back towards entrance. All while we were there, a group between level 22-25, fighting the predator PH, and the rest of the zone was empty of players.
This was the average experience the 4 days we attempted to play. 80% of the higher level players we encountered had 0 regard for us and stormed their way through Sol A, while it was empty of players except for us, and still managed to kill the ONLY mobs we were camping. 20% saw us and said "Hey, are you guys camping these? Ok, I'll leave them up. Need any buffs?"
So the issue was not that the higher level players decided to use the zone to complete the quest - it was that many of the high level players had no regard for anyone who was currently in zone EXPing - and beyond that: everyone trying to make it seem like WE were in the wrong because we chose to camp a spot that is level appropriate for us. Meanwhile, the reality is a clear violation of the PnP of the high level players - but the reaction has spoken volumes as to how the population of p99 thinks.
We petitioned, but saw no resolution. One helpful player, a 60 druid who stuck around and buffed us and helped ward off higher level camp-stealers told us to run OBS. We are casuals, and don't use OBS. It seems pretty damning of the server population that you must screen record 24/7 in order to have protection.
We were also not alone in our strife with higher level players. There were about a dozen or so other players (level 20-35) who were attempting to EXP in Sol A between the days we were on, and they all experienced the same treatment, and all had the same complaints about how high level players would run right past them and start killing every mob in sight, and leaving them nothing to kill.
Either way, I still appreciate your suggestions - however, my friends and I have decided to move on to other games/servers. We may give Quarm a shot, or I will try to convince them to join me on Live or TLP, to scratch the EQ itch. They have seen enough of p99.
