I took a list of spells and sorted them by cost.
It might help someone decide what class to roll next

Thanks I’ll edit that in. Might not have been any instances of it being sold during the time period for which I pulled.

Sham’s are expensive but for all intents and purposes you can skip Pox and never look back.

Eh, Shaman solo fights already take forever and a day; not using all your DoTs would only make them take even longer.

I skipped Bane and never looked back, Pox is way more available and way cheaper.

Bards made out like thieves, but still end up spending a pretty copper on instruments.

A lot of these prices aren't classic. I actually had to look up posts from 2000-2001 to make sure I wasn't insane and just confirmed that you could easily get a Fungus Covered Scale Tunic for $5-10K on most servers.

https://wiki.project1999.com/Gangrenous_Touch_of_Zum%27uul would have to be in the top 3.
i assume it's not in any logs because it's hardly ever sold.

Yea maybe the reason for the inflation is the fact that it’s one of the best items on our server for years with no future expansions in sight. Plus we have a treasure hunting guide so everyone knows how to extract max plat from the environment 24/7

True, I think the most I paid for a wizard spell was maybe 400p, though i imagine if someone was selling Myga blood LR for dragon bane that would probably be worth a good amount.

Extremely valid point, never really considered the fact that prices are high because of the fact people know how to farm better. I will say this, I didn’t know torpor was a strong spell back in the day and remember berating a shaman for casting it on me as a puller !! Why you snaring me?? Really feel like the spell, at least on my server, was prob under valued or even seen as… bad?

Back on live I never saw sunstrike for sale I had to farm gwurms to get it. When I did get it it was glorious though.
On here it is like 500pp.

Torpor 30k? Sheesh thats cheap these days. Back in the day it was 80-100k.
And I'm sure most people get theirs for free simply by existing in a guild that kills dragons.

Fungi was like 35-40k in late Velious. No idea where you're getting that number, but it's wrong. I was a big EC trader in Velious - Luclin.

Agreed. This was the going in era price on my server as well. Those figures were likely post-era numbers at a point when the gear was no longer as useful compared to other available items.

If you notice the spell costs are pretty directly correlated to how valuable the spell is to that class maximizing their potential, and how effective the class is at farming. AKA the most expensive spells are expensive because they earn players the most money.
For example I've probably made about a 2500% return on buying Torpor for my shaman and subsequently farming stuff that I couldnt without Torpor.

I can post some links if it's that serious. But if you're curious you can also go on Google and search EverQuest + Fungi Tunic and then set the date filter for 1999 - 2001 (it will only pull up threads from that time period).
On my server I remember Velious being very different than P99. I remember every high level player wanting Skyshrine Breastplate, and every Monk I knew wearing the Velious armor in their chest slot and thinking how insane it looked. Most of us saw Fungi Tunic as a twink leveling item, and would swap it out the second we got a Velious BP. I know in 2025 people will say that was bad / stupid, but that was the meta. Perhaps it was different on your server, but my own searches show a Fungi Tunic as being a relatively cheap item compared to how it's priced today. Granted solo'ing is a lot more meta on P99 as well. It can genuinely be hard to find a group or have the time to fully commit to a group for a lot of us.

AC and mob attack values feel quite different here to live.

Supply and demand too. Nec/shm/ench are pretty popular because they're solid classes and they also have pricey spellbooks. Sunstrike is pretty central to wizards but nearly no one plays them so it is 400pp.
Dictate is 20k but if you don't farm chardok you basically don't need it. You can make it up in a couple of days in there though so worth it if that's your style. Bedlam (12k) is A LOT more useful though even if cheaper. Maybe I was just unlucky but it took me a lot longer to find a copy of bedlam on the market (like 3 weeks checking every day). Bedlam probably drops more but there was like 5 chanters looking for it when I tried to buy mine. The market isn't always rational.
