View Full Version : Infinite playtime easy to play online games?

Hello. I wanted to ask you what kind of online games you can recommend me based on my current favorite online games that I play. I like these games right now:
- Battlefield™ 6
- Counter-Strike: Source
- Left 4 Dead 2
- Restitched
- Tower Unite
- DARK SOULS™ II: Scholar of the First Sin
- Need for Speed™
- Need For Speed World SoapBox Race World
I like games where you can grind a rank or level-up or inventory or money. But I also dislike games that are complex like any MMOs that require at least 200 hours of playtime in order to understand them. As you can see in my list they are very easy to play games with no learning curve. You instantly know how to play them or at least they are not as complex as an MMO.
Does anyone know any good infinite playtime games, maybe on Steam or elsewhere that I would like based on my list?

Roblox. Stupid easy to get your parents to grab you a gift card anywhere. $20 in skins and maybe a little plot to call your own. Game is fantastic if block people are your thing.

Also Roblox Studio is basically a game design game which gives you a huge global market for your own productions including mechanics to monetise your game and make income.

Roblox does not fit my favorite games lol. Although I never played it.

I was wanting a game where you can farm ranks / level-ups like in GTA V where you can play until you're level 1000. Or something like that.

Is there a game with rank grind that's like a first person shooter or a racing game? I mean cities skylines isn't exactly a genre I am good at. I was hoping you could tell me some good online games. Or maybe I should play Warframe? lol

I was thinking of starting to play chess.com or lichess.org
Which one of these is better? I like lichess more cause it doesn't require a monthly subscription to be fun.

what about mmos? Is Old School RuneScape worth getting into? I tried it, it's ok but I was only holocausting cows on a farm for 8 hours or so LOL.
Is there an even easier mmo than OSRS to get into that also offers infinite playtime?

I tried real hard to get into runescape because I love old school mmos but I just can't click with that one.

I didn't like that you have to move and it's boring. I was stuck on a farm killing cows leveling Strength stat. I didn't like moving in that game, way too slow. And I also don't like reading in my mmos. So it was kinda boring. P99 is better but I hate that you can lose all your inventory on death and even your experience.

What do you think about Hearthstone or other card games? Is it fun? Or what games do YOU play shovelquest?

You’re speaking from a place of ignorance then. Clearly never played counterblox. ;)

I like, clunky 90s games. Honestly, usually when I'm playing a game it's trying to get into an old CRPG or something, I couldn't get into when I was younger because I was too ADD.
last game I really dove into was Ultima Underworld on GOG it was quite fun. Like EQ a little bit.

Http://Dos.zone has a bunch of these. It is basically a website which emulated a computer from circa 1995.

Are there any cool online games with lizards? In DARK SOULS II: Scholar of the First Sin there is the Flexile Sentry boss which is basically two lizards in one body, and it's a pirate. Know any more games with lizards? Some say Vanu Sovereignty are lizards but I think their armor is actually based on Lobsters.

In WoW there are Saurolisks, and they are named "Komodo Dragon" in the game files. But I don't like WoW or any MMO. Or is WoW good I never played it LOL.

Me neither. When I was working on the house bar at Games Workshop most of the staff there were addicted to it, but I just couldn't get into it (you'd think a hopeless Everquest addict like you and I would transfer over easily, but nope. It just isn't quite the same itch).

Wow wasn't quite for me, (I never played it when it was new as I was happy with everquest and counterstrike for my gaming fixes), but I did play wow classic a little and it was okay.In WoW there are Saurolisks, and they are named "Komodo Dragon" in the game files. I have noticed you seem to often say things are or aren't good without having actually tried them yourself.

I mean WoW only competes with Final Fantasy XIV Online because they both require a monthly subscription. OSRS needs a subscription too but let's be honest it doesn't compete with the other two.
I don't know I wanted to get into Project 1999 but it's too difficult and time consuming and I rather play easy brain-dead games like the ones in my list. Was hoping one of you had more grindable games that are easy to play.

I like EQ because it reminds me of game of thrones kind of life.
Kill rats, eat mud, see rich people, die.
Idk, other MMOs feel like games, eq felt like an immersive word.
Never really felt that. I kind of felt a little bit like it in the original Battlefield game, exploring the larger maps. Felt like, idk more real to me than modern battlefield games with all their expensive graphics.
Something about how detailed games are with the IRL explosions and cinematic feel also fights against me getting immersed into the game.
Something about the simple world of these old games, mirrors my simple life as a peasant in them.

I just like games that let me grind military ranks like in Battlefield or just some stats like in OSRS or money like in Need For Speed without being complex. Literally brain-dead. Maybe I should play some more BattleBit Remastered it was actually good. Although we get Battlefield 6 in a few days.

I like how when you turn on EQ its like, it doesn't demand anything from you.
You open it up.
People start sending you tells, you send some tells.
You organize your inventory, enjoy the view.
Have some laughs, hear about some fun things going on, make a plan... Enjoy the game.
Most games when you turn them on feel like games. EQ felt like you were stepping into a world, and then playing when you wanted to, how you wanted to.
IDK maybe that's all bullshit but its still real to me dammit.

You just read this too, didn't you? https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2025/09/30-years-later-im-still-obliterating-planets-in-master-of-orion-ii-and-you-can-too/ ;)
Masters of Orion (1 and 2) were great games though! I played many games of both, and even played the latter ("hot seat" style) with a friend.
If you haven't tried it, I'd also strongly recommend Master of Magic (DOSBox), Caster of Magic (a sort of fan-made 1.5 version, also on DOSBox) and the modern remake (it's not as good as the originals, but still fun). All are arguably rip-offs of (the original) Civilization, but they're different enough to still feel separate from both Civilization and Orion. In fact, Master of Magic feels a lot like Civilization crossed with Magic: The Gathering :)

Still need to play it, bought it for the early access beta, then got impatient for the full release and found P99, never looked back lol
Freelancer is great, and you can keep playing after the story ends. There's a newer game that's similar called Underspace that I recently started, but only have about 3 hours in so far.
