View Full Version : Kunark/Classic World CHALLENGE - Official Thread

This took so much work to put together. There are 4 big things that need to be addressed:

1.) The exact stats on all the Guildmasters and Guards and Merchants. Wiki surely has some incorrect info right now (including which things are fully magic resistant or not) and there are a LOT of these MOBs in the game; some of them will likely need to have their tier changed. That goes for every other MOB in game too, but these specific MOB types are more likely to have incorrect info right now.

2.) Enchanter NPC's - do they still freely charm high level players on p99 (despite the spells they are using having level limits when cast by PC's)? If so, some of those NPC's may need to have their tier changed, in particular some of the Enchanter GM's who are difficult to pull (Qeynos Catacombs is probably of the deadliest Guildmaster area in the game). If they do charm high level players, and cast those spells frequently, it would still technically be possible to Duo the toughest GM's, but would require successfully stunning them on every Charm cast, after successfully pulling them. Depending on the resist rates, the amount of luck/time that would take could be insane, and may merit moving them to trio god status.

3.) Kunark and Classic World content should probably be separated into different challenges (aside from the Trio and Full Group tiers). There's an immense amount of content here, and if we want people to engage with a wide amount of the game space, then it would require something like 50 kills per tier when combining Kunark and Classic World together. It would probably be more satisfying to have 2 different rewards, instead of a single Kunark+Classic World title that requires 2x many kills as the Velious challenge.

4.) A lot of potential difficulty in the game comes from fighting multiple MOBs at the same time, rather than just isolating one with FD pulls or other methods. I've included a small amount of those encounters here (aside from the ones where non-FD classes will already have to engage a room that way, since the possibility of splitting a room by running to zoneline is unrealistic/impossible), but there are many more possible. Would people like to see more of those listed? It especially adds more content for the Duo, Trio, and Group tiers, although in some cases it does require more description/research regarding the exact location the encounter takes place and which MOBs are included.

SOLO DISCIPLE: 145 MOBs (this tier doesn't really deserve to be listed on the Hall of Fame, but I've included it for now)

Lull is currently non-Classic on p99 (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=434049) and will count as using Pull Help until it is fixed (does not apply to Bard lull and Harmony). Lull spells in classic EQ are supposed to be 100% resisted on all Level 50+ MOBs and have a minimum 55% chance of getting resisted AND ending every tick on Level 40-49 MOBs. It is allowed to use help to get to different islands in Plane of Sky. Everywhere else, it is expected that you get to the MOB on your own without someone helping to clear the way there.

Overpowered item clickies include Puppet Strings (https://wiki.project1999.com/Puppet Strings), Soulfire (https://wiki.project1999.com/Soulfire)-type items, Slowstone Amber (https://wiki.project1999.com/Slowstone Amber)-type items, Donal's Chestplate of Mourning (https://wiki.project1999.com/Donal's Chestplate of Mourning) (pre-nerf), Red Dragon Tooth (https://wiki.project1999.com/Red Dragon Tooth), and Wooly Spider Silk Net (https://wiki.project1999.com/Wooly Spider Silk Net), while lesser consumable items are shaman potions and things of that nature (for Manastone (https://wiki.project1999.com/Manastone) every click is considered equivalent to a Wort Pot (https://wiki.project1999.com/Potion of Stinging Wort) click). Use of those consumables should be limited, as they can equate to being the same as using an overpowered item clicky (ie, many healing potion clicks is equivalent to using a complete heal Soulfire-type clicky; consumable items that produce DPS are overpowered when stacked or combined with usage of healing potion). While S* is a tier that can be recognized for individual God-tier kills, using a ridiculous amount of items will not count as a valid kill.

Moderate use of consumables should equate to being less powerful than healing your character with a click of a Soulfire-type item. More than 2 significant buffs exceeds the threshold of what is considered "moderate use" of outside buffs.

No thanks, terrible rule set. Good luck getting people to participate in this bullshit.

The ruleset is excellent and precisely tuned to account for everything. We've already heard enough of your unhelpful ranting about how getting outside buffs should be considered the same as not getting outside buffs. It doesn't even matter anyway for obtaining a Solo title, S and S+ is the same thing for that, the only difference is how individual kills get categorized, so people can accurately search for videos and strats.

This thread is for people to share their progress, discuss the specifics about all the MOB's/encounters in the game, what category those MOBs should be placed in, and how many kills should be required for each title. Please do not be disruptive in a space that is built to have useful info and be a consolidated place for people to search through.

There is already a good solo challenge here (https://wiki.project1999.com/Solo_Artist_Challenge_(Kunark_Era)).

I would advise avoiding this solo challenge (https://wiki.project1999.com/Solo_Artist_Challenge), as it has been ruined by Zuranthium, Samoht, and Loramin. The page is now just a half-deleted version of Loraen's solo challenge (https://wiki.project1999.com/Solo_Artist_Challenge_(Kunark_Era)). Only Zuranthium, Samoht, and Loramin are actually allowed to edit the page. Loramin is a wiki admin, and will suspend you if you edit the page, so it is a dead page masquerading as a community effort.

As for this specific challenge and Zuranthium's Velious Challenge (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=442002), Zuranthium will probably not participate in it himself. He has stated repeatedly that he does not play anymore:

I have more experience with this game than you do and far more skill as a gamer. Have you ever won tournaments and actual money? Ever ranked high globally at an actual competitive thing? No, you haven't. I don't need to log on and do anything. I've already played more than enough EQ since 1999. It's not the role of a retired athlete to spend their time on the field. They move onto coaching, officiating, or professional analysis to impart their expertise.

Zuranthium will probably belittle your solo challenge efforts if you participate in his solo challenges. He asks for decorum in this thread, while acting like this in others (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=441516):

Thousands of people have done far more than you ever have...your videos show nothing special whatsoever.

You've not killed anything especially challenging on your youtube channel. You can't even get more than a 100 feet into Sebilis on your SK without dying. A druid killing a cliff golem is a bigger achievement than anything you've shown, since cliff golem is the highest tier you've done and you did with a shaman (a much more powerful class).

Zuranthium also made a Star Trek/Everquest/Game of Thrones fanfic where Sscalez is violently tortured for disagreeing with Zuranthium about solo challenge rules:

That's not a good challenge at all. It has a very limited amount targets and is very outdated and poorly formulated. It lists Plane of Fear mini-bosses as solo targets.

As for all the other nonsense you wrote, you've been repeatedly told to stop. Your spamming, mischaracterizations, and lack of comprehension are a waste of everyone's time. You being upset about the facts of what has happened in game, or people calling you out for saying incorrect things or using exploits, is your own personal issue that you need to deal with.

This is indeed a community thread for people to share info and earn titles for engaging in content, in ways that the game often does not reward, in a 26 year old static game that needs new things for people to do. If you have nothing relevant to share about the specifics of MOBs or your own progress, then you should not be posting and wasting space.

Your current challenges are clearly based on Loraen's original page, so people can make their own judgment about that.

Your behavior is the problem and you are not in any position to be talking about "second chances". This forum is not your personal space to be pampered and for people to entertain your gaslighting. You are the one who owes everyone else an apology and nobody cares about what you think of them. It's your own problem that you childishly lash out and spout endless fallacies any time someone tries to correct your misinfo.

These challenges are based on objective categorizations of difficulty. I've put the immense amount of work in to categorize over 1,000 MOBs between the two challenge threads, based on my experience and all the other info available. It's meant to be a valuable resource for people to browse through and find info and get noticed for their kills, and it's up to the community to update the MOB info where needed, as I am not going to be personally testing over 1,000 MOBs in game.

Actually, I take that back. The guy that leveled a toon 1-50 in 3 hours using gnoll scrolls at least had a level 50 at the end.

You just have an empty challenge no one (including you) will ever care to try. Congratulations!

You didn't care about Sscalez's hard work to solo Fungi King (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=441516). You trolled his thread into oblivion, as well as this wiki page (https://wiki.project1999.com/Solo_Artist_Challenge). People are already doing it and have already done many of the MOBs, but were not previously recognized for what they did. They are now being recognized on the Hall of Fame and an extensive database of videos is being built for the community to have a great resource for their personal research. If you don't have any info to share about MOBs and don't have any videos or progress to share, then there's no reason to be posting here.

Broadly speaking that SAC listed the mobs that players were already motivated to kill. That's most of what I want out of a solo / low man kill list.

Zuranthium
07-31-2025, 03:09 PM
Pick the ones you're motivated to kill! That's the great thing about having so many options available. Especially since targets with valuable item drops are already heavily camped, leaving people with nothing else to do when those aren't available. Hundreds of MOBs in game were essentially worthless and now have a purpose, giving people the opportunity to learn about all kinds of different areas in the game and figure out how to pull there.

Zuranthium has soloed a Cliff Golem on his Druid, which is Solo Grandmaster on both his list and Loraen's list:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqNfDrTpG_Q

This is the hardest mob he has fought solo as far as I know.

I am not discouraging or belittling Zuranthium's previous accomplishments. He has done some solo challenge work, and I appreciate the videos he has posted.

With that being said, Zuranthium was very disrespectful (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=441516) when it came to Sscalez's impressive Fungi King solo kill. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wONdIYAofyQ) Zuranthium doesn't have any Fungi King solo kill videos himself, so it doesn't really make sense as to why he attacked Sscalez so viciously.

You have no videos of these kills as far as I know. I just stated my current knowledge of your P99 kills, and gave you credit for your Cliff Golem kill.

Feel free to post more videos so we can see some of these new mobs you think should be included. Videos of yourself doing your own challenge are quite relevant to this thread.

It's not my own challenge, and no, videos of myself are not relevant. Lorean never posted videos of himself doing anything difficult, for something that was actually just his own challenge, and yet you cling to that like it's the bible. You are completely disingenuous and hypocritical and irrational.

Many videos already exist of encounters in this challenge, and there will be more to come, thanks to people having incentive to make them. The other benefit of the challenge is helping to clean up the wiki, as people report on the MOBs that currently have incorrect stats on their pages.

No, the challenges are based on objective difficulty levels, to be vetted by the community, and serve as a comprehensive guide for any player to be able to look up any of these MOBs and better understand what will be needed if they want to do it themselves.

I am doing all the work of putting it together, and have updated many NPC's on the wiki and started bug reports for the ones I know are wrong, but it's up to the community to keep providing info so that all of the pages can be perfected and the MOBs can all be assigned to an accurate category. There's already been some good feedback in the Velious thread that resulted in a bunch of MOB updates. That's also what needs to be happening in this thread.

Phinny is not 'duo grandmaster', it's quite easy to pull him solo, and can duo quite easily with monk + torpor shaman with no buffs (Phinny will dispell all of it quite fast anyways), with epic + thurgadin armorish gear. No pots, no clickies, no stuns, no angle/casting exploits etc, just pure toe-to-toe and torpor heal.

Zuranthium

That speaks to the issue of the way the Solo and Duo ranks are currently mashed together. Anything that's Solo God inherently gets listed as Duo Grandmaster. I fixed this with the Trio Tier, where Duo God = Trio Master (instead of Grandmaster), and then it jumps directly into Trio God.

It should probably be the same for Duo compared to Solo as well, where Solo God = Duo Master. Duo and Trio Grandmaster could still exist, but there's just so little Trio content listed right now (and so little testing of that tier). Much more Duo content available, but it also needs some more refinement. I would be glad to make the move though and either delete Duo Grandmaster for now, or do another look over the Duo God content as it currently stands and try to split it up between Grandmaster and God.

half of this list is just random class GMs you found on the wiki without even fact checking the stats listed (mobs in classic and kunark are hard-capped at 32000 HP)

there are much harder mobs to kill than class guildmasters

killing some random class guildmaster doesn't make you a solo god, there are significantly harder mobs out there which can be soloed

Zuranthium
08-01-2025, 10:15 PM
Guildmasters are definitely difficult, particularly when grouped together, and especially certain classes. Many of them are absolutely among the hardest things in the game to Solo, and some likely impossible to Solo (hence why they're in the Duo God tier instead).

I am perfectly aware of the 32K HP cap pre-Velious (which only a few revamped Planes MOBs exceed). A small handful these Challenge MOBs on the wiki are incorrectly listed as having more than 32K, but I already disregarded that in the initial tier placements. Those listings on the wiki need to be corrected, which requires them being tested for their exact HP. I maybe should have already edited those pages to 32K in the meantime, since that's at least more accurate, BUT there's also a small chance that a few of these Classic World NPC's randomly got their HP buffed above 32K by a dev during Velious era...it's not like anyone was killing them back then to confirm.

Not sure what you're trying to say about 32,000 HP in the first place though...are you not aware that most Solo God targets already have much less HP than that? Fungi King is only 18k for example. Now look at Guildmasters who have 32k, and cast devastating spells like C-heal, and are standing next to a bunch of other Level 61 GM's: these are incredibly difficult targets.

This is the rubric I used to place GM's:

20k HP without a difficult pull = Grandmaster
32K without a difficult pull or 20K with difficult pull = God
32K with a difficult pull or 20K with difficult pull and difficult spellcasting = Duo God

The exact stats need to be tested though. Also note something I said about how much more content there could be if listing all the possibilities of fighting rooms head-on instead of FD splitting them: many of these GM rooms would be Full Group tier, and some of them wouldn't even be possible with a Full Group!

Possibly you were affected by this curse (https://wiki.project1999.com/Curse_of_the_Simple_Mind). Or under the influence of too much Gator Gulp Ale (https://wiki.project1999.com/Gator_Gulp_Ale)

Silly goofs like, fire giants being a tier below permafrost ice giants despite being a copy & paste reskin of the same mob? There's maybe a 300hp difference in their total health pool? Why?

Mobs like Uulump and Prince Selrach are 'duo god' tier but are both soloable by an enchanter? Does that instantly put me into Solo Uber Mega-God Ultra L33t Gamer 69 tier?
Same with mobs like Essence Tamer / Soul Tamer being listed.... Very killable... solo. But even then having sky stuff on a challenge like this is as silly as it may get for a 26 year old elf sim on an emulated server that has daily sky guild-rotations.

The original framework for the Solo Artist Challenge enticed me 'til I realized it was stale after being stunlocked in velious this long... some things are just weighed differently.

ie: Khelkar Icepaw being god mode but Kerdelb & Bledrek being a tier lower? (proposed changes of course). ;)

As someone who has solo'd all three mobs many times I'd argue that Kerdelb and Bledrek are harder simply because they're a 2 part fight with their smaller versions spawning shortly thereafter.... vs. Khelkar being a one and done.

All in all, I'm definitely thankful you're trying to resuscitate the solo artist challenge but we might need to go back to the drawing board on this unorganized mess of classic/kunark crud and maybe just try to expand on the Solo Artist Challenge (https://wiki.project1999.com/Solo_Artist_Challenge) except with more velious options... ... .... ... .. . . and ideally.... realistic velious options.
not options like Bristlebane Puppet (https://wiki.project1999.com/Bristlebane_Puppet) being on the same tier as Emp Chottal  .... If you can solo the bb puppet everything else on the list above it should be null and void! (except for maybe fear golems)

fire giants being a tier below permafrost ice giants despite being a copy & paste reskin of the same mob?

They aren't a tier below, for the ones that have linked aggro. The permafrost giants all stand in range of another, creating pull difficulty, whereas there is a fire giant spawn who is alone. That specific one is lower tier (if it spawns under level 51).

Mobs like Uulump and Prince Selrach are 'duo god' tier but both soloable by an enchanter?

I haven't heard about Uulump being soloed, but taking a look I can see it would be possible by charming Warlord Hikyg (https://wiki.project1999.com/Warlord Hikyg) if that info is accurate, or without that pet if Uulump's HP is incorrectly listed as 32K right now. Please advise on his stats since you seem to know.

Prince has only been soloed by Enchanters who have used the busted version of Lull, which is slated to be nerfed to its useless classic version. If someone can show they are able to solo him without Lulling the room and without consumables, then it would merit a tier change. A solo kill without pull help will require running him to zoneline and getting a root to stick long enough to be able to fight him without a crowd around. Might be possible, but hasn't been shown yet.

having sky stuff on a challenge like this is silly on an emulated server that has daily sky guild-rotations.

Why's that? Guilds can choose to let their members do challenges if they want (it's already happened with challenges in Kael) and the content doesn't all get perma cleared anyway. No rotations on Red either.

Khelkar Icepaw being god mode but Kerdelb & Bledrek being a tier lower?

As someone who has solo'd all three mobs many times I'd argue that Kerdelb and Bledrek are harder simply because they're a 2 part fight with their smaller versions spawning shortly thereafter...vs. Khelkar being a one and done.

Kerd and Bled aren't lower tier (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3753649&postcount=120), you must be referring to the bad, old wiki page. As for Khelkar, he is in a room with several others, two of which are over level 50. Will be interested to see your thoughts after trying it without lull. And OFC, everything in the same tier doesn't have exactly the same difficulty anyway.

Bristlebane Puppet (https://wiki.project1999.com/Bristlebane_Puppet) being on the same tier as Emp Chottal

Bristlebane Puppet doesn't have linked aggro and is perma rooted, so he can be freely loaded up with debuffs before engaging. Chottal is in a room with many guards. That said, Bristlebane is indeed very difficult and might merit moving up a tier, but seems possible with pre-parked charm pets. Also, Velious and Kunark content are separate challenges (although yes, the difficulty levels should still be similar between them).

It's because he doesn't actually play EverQuest anymore, and hasn't in a very long time. Dude is out of touch and completely clueless.

oohhh, I see I see..... the geriatric gamer special, as brad intended

#bradbless :)

They're both accurate, can confirm. Maybe 20-25 uulump solo / duo kills at this point for various druids in need.
Why invite a full group of melee nerds when you can just do all the leg work with 1 charm.

Even without using pacify (which if its as broken as you insist why can't we get a bug report getting it permanently fixed?) you can do silly tricks for pulls using mesmerize abusing blur + social aggro mechanics.
Same for Khelkar's room.... Lets say we don't use pacify....
Rapture Khelkar, stun + fascinate the adds and then kill them 1 by 1. Easy. No risk of a crit resist pacify either!

and Bled aren't lower tier, you must be referring to the bad, old wiki page. As for Khelkar, he is in a room with several others, two of which are over level 50. Will be interested to see your thoughts after trying it without lull. And OFC, everything in the same tier doesn't have exactly the same difficulty anyway.
erm....

The original framework for the Solo Artist Challenge ............

Please feel free to go park 50 druid pets in PoM and show me you soloing BB puppet to make this realistic. Somehow pull it off on enchanter and I might just have to permanently move over to quarm for the rest of my EQ career!

Last thing to say ~ linking that silly ass post (that you drafted this morning at 6am) (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3753649&postcount=120) has got to be ragebait. You have Tpos Icepaw (killable easily by any enchanter with a brain at level 57) on the same level as the others? A crystal destroyer is harder than khelkar in some instances. Just tell me you don't hunt in velks. Play the game more and your list might seem more realistic.

All guildmasters have 32k HP, some may in fact have been given 2 million HP post-kunark.

The thread has been around for many weeks, with Kerd and Bled on the Solo God tier from the very start.

Saying one or two things you disagree with and ignoring the validity of the whole is not helpful, nor intelligent. As has already been stated, the placements are not set in stone. The entire point of these threads is to discuss the exact MOB specifics and come to the most objective placement.

Tpos is in that tier because of how many MOBs surround him. Enchanters to date have abused non-classic lull for these camps; it becomes significantly more time consuming and dangerous when that isn't an option. So far nobody else has said they think Tpos should be moved down a tier. Please describe why you think it will be so easy to split the entire upper dogs area. And are you saying you think Crystal Destroyer should be in God tier, or what?

Even without using pacify (which if its as broken as you insist why can't we get a bug report getting it permanently fixed?) you can do silly tricks for pulls using mesmerize abusing blur + social aggro mechanics.

Rapture Khelkar, stun + fascinate the adds and then kill them 1 by 1. Easy.

There is a bug report (literally linked in the first post of both threads), with the exact classic data, and it's been dev acknowledged that lulls are indeed wrong and will need to be changed.

Your stated Khelkar method is ofc one possible way, but it's not a guarantee given resists that can happen. Possibly he could go down a tier, but so far other posters have said they think the current category is correct.

If you think Prince Selrach is so easy to solo without lull, feel free to make a video of it and be the first person with an S+ kill of him on the Hall of Fame, and in the meantime describe exactly how you think the pull would work. Also just objectively looking at the encounter, wouldn't you say it's significantly harder than other things that have already been worthy of being considered solo god tier?

go park 50 druid pets in PoM and show me you soloing BB puppet to make this realistic.

Where did the Druid talk come from? I don't think they'd be able to do it, the unslowed Bristlebane Puppet does too much damage for the pets they'd be able to line up. Enchanter however may be possible with 3 pets, which is an amount they can feasibly park before the fight. Have you ever seen anyone try? (I doubt it)

What's your source for them all having 32k? The 2 million number also contradicts what you were trying to say earlier, and is something that shows how all of these GM's need to be individually tested either way. For now they have to be placed somewhere, and after people report back with actual facts, then their tiers can be altered (and the wiki pages updated).
