Could Server Wide Auction Chat be a consideration?

Blue server now a days has an estimated online max population of about 400 and a minimum of 300.

Red server's peak population in April 2014 had an active population reaching 100 players.

For this reason a serverwide /ooc chat was implemented as well as a change in the implemented rules for Red Server.

Lately, I have been noticing that East Commons are dwindling in the number of active players selling equipment. This is a bit troubling.
Many of the players have reverted to cash is king when selling their wares; no longer accepting trades.

Still some players are found for weeks spamming WTB for some of the simplest of items; with no luck.

Now I am not asking or demanding a permanent server wide auction chat channel but perhaps maybe one hour in the day? Or perhaps this could also be implement only when the server has below 250 players?

Just food for thought? And doesn't need to be implemented if found not needed but it could be exciting.

(P.S. For those players concerned about this idea: I know this isn't classic but neither was adding serverwide OOC chat to pvp servers in Everquest.)

If you ever watch twitch you'll see there's a couple of tunnel cam streams. Whoever puts those up does great work. That's one workaround that keeps it classic in game.

Global /ooc is wonderful, I'd put it in for Blue until a merge happens. It's not classic for server population to be so low (and thus most zones being empty and new players not having the ability to ask questions to people in their zone), so the more classic and logical thing is having global /ooc in this case.

Although keeping it as a unique feature of Red is also desirable.

Yeah that's because most people offering trades are merely trying to shift their burden on you instead of offering something desirable. Yeah I'll come out ahead by 200pp if I sell all your stuff at market price but now I have 3 things to sell instead of one.

Yeah a lot of trading has been done out of EC for a while now. I wouldn't be suprised if most of it was done on Discord now.

There is already a player solution for global auction chat.

The staff has always failed to communicate. Now, to be clear, Rogean and Nilbog no longer participate in this forum, even though they used to ... but that's not what I'm talking about.

Even in the old days when they did post, they still never posted much about P99 plans. For many years here people believed Velious would never be released, because the server just sat in Kunark for four years. The staff offered zero updates during those years.

Same thing with Green: for four years after Velious there was (again) no communication from the staff, and everyone was convinced that "the recycle server" would never exist.

But of course, both Velious and Green did happen ... they just happened on R&N's time, and neither one shared any updates until they were ready. But, in the tiny snippets of info they did give, they did at one point promise both Velious and Green ... and they also promised Green 2.0 (which requires merging 1.0 into Blue).

The green server will, at a time yet to be decided, eventually merge into blue and start over again. This merge will not happen until at least 6 months after the last patch in velious (No earlier than January 2023)

(Minor note: Rogean did later follow that up with "A lot can change in 3 years, and we may chose to leave Green running independently as we open additional servers in the future." ... but whether they keep Green 1.0 or not, they've never said anything about abandoning Green 2.0, and even abandoning the merge seems unlikely to me.)

The staff don't communicate on theoretical timelines because then if something doesn't happen everyone goes ballistic at them. They have their plans and they will tell us when it gets close.

Unfortunately at some point even the merged server pop will dwindle and we'll be at the same point we're at now.

I feel as though they should implement a global chat channel that a person can opt in or out of, rather than global ooc.

It doesn't effect gameplay at all, and would solve the problem we're discussing in a way that doesnt force anyone to deal with any more not-classic implementations (rooted dragons, camp rules etc)
