Taylah Ironforge quest giving wrong reward

I just finished this quest:

The reward should be a "Combine Short Sword."

I received a "Combine Gladius," which is a Luclin item.

Should Brohan talk about this quest before Kunark is released?

This Everlore entry (https://web.archive.org/web/20000517040718/http://www.everlore.com/default.asp?mode=35&id=21791) indicates Brohan discussed the quest well before Kunark. However, it was broken in two different ways.

The following entries and comments show that there should be an NPC named Tayla Ironforge in the basement of Maiden's Fancy in Neriak Third Gate.

theres a lvl 25 "half elf maiden" locked behind a door in cabilis. You can use a glitch in the wall to get into it. she has no faction or loot and doesn't respond to anything. looks just like tayla. maybe its a quest or something

Well, I was hunting Ratraz the other night, and wanted to pull Tayla as I was FM well before the troll respawned. But to my surprise, she has disappeared and I was there a good hour or two and no Tayla

Indeed, it seems Tayla Ironforge does not appear there anymore...at least not for a few months. Maybe they will reinstate her or something...

Havent seen her there, and have been camping Ratraz for a couple of days now. I think I heard they moved her to Kunark or something along those lines. Anyone else got info on her?

Tayla is no longer in the Maidens Fancy, she has not been there since about the time Kunark went live.

Quest expanded with Kunark

Despite the quest being updated, it still wasn't able to be completed until 2003 (the second way the quest was broken).

I read that this was fixed, that she does give up the trinket now. Two questions:

Anybody done this?

Is this Mare X'lottl on the same faction as other DE's? Can a good PC do this quest?

There 'asn't been a patch since the last time I checked and she didn't give the trinket then. I'm 'opin' the next patch will include a fix fer this :/

Mare is on the Dark Bargainers faction (inky merchant faction). If ye give enough Lightstones 'n Greater Lightstones ta Smith T'vysa in South Ro ye kin get on their good side. In the bar ye might 'ave ta watch out fer the Ambassador 'oo wanders in and out occasionally - everyone else in the bar but 'im is on the Bargainers faction, not sure what 'e is, was Dubious ta me in inkie form.

Tayla Ironforge quest still broken at 2nd step - confirmed, 2-21-02. Mare X`Lottl still returns no item upon recieving a jasper.

March patch fixed this, you know get a trinket from the DE in Neriak. Hand that to the elf maiden in Cablias (requires picking the lock to get to her) gets you a note (?), hand that back to Brohan gets you a random combine weapon.

Her quest is now fixed (as of 2003). Talk to Mare X'lottl (sp) about her and she says she was lost in a gambling game. Give her a 'jasper' and she hands you a trinket. Give the trinket to Tayla in Cabilis East, and you get a note. Bring the note back to Brohan Ironforge in Qeynos for your reward.

Does anyone know where Tayla spawned in Neriak? I understand it's in the basement of Maiden's Fancy with Spice, Mare etc. There are 3 empty bedrooms attached to the bar room, maybe one of those?

I believe Tayla should be spawning in the bedroom on the left (approx. 900, -1420).

First, the ogre Spice appears to be spawning in the wrong spot in the basement. This screenshot (https://web.archive.org/web/20010116122200/http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=2334) shows her standing against the wall outside the bedroom on the left.

Strategy

After making big ol' 16, head to Neriak 3rd gate and pick up your new spells. Now it's time to try them out. Head over the Maiden's Fancy. Say hi to whomever is camping Ratraz. If Ratraz is there, proceed to leave. If Ratraz is camped, then you are in luck. Downstairs in a couple rooms is Tayla Ironforge. She is a Warrior type that is very similar to Trisha Whistlesong in West Freeport, with one major difference: she has multiple attacks.

First, if you have it, cast Banshee Aura. This will be a high damage fight since neither side has many HPs. Banshee Aura will make the difference everytime. Open her door, avoid targeting Spice, and Engulf her. Run upstairs and go behind a table. Notice the odd pathing. Use this to your advantage to get the DoT of your choice off (I suggest Leach for obvious reasons). Once combat has begun, make sure you throw in a Poison Bolt between rounds to stack more damage. It means a lot to the low HP Tayla). It is important to try and time your Lifetaps in between her bashes/kicks.

Result? Dead Tayla with nice XP.

With Spice in her new position, the advice to avoid targeting her when attacking Tayla makes much more sense. (I also highlighted a couple of Tayla's reported combat abilities.)

Tayla should be positioned in the room such that she can aggro players through the door.

Now my question. Ratraz did not stop Skarja walking down the stairs into the room with the Royal Ambassador. Then trollish curiosity overcame my lack of sense and I walked to the next room to be hit thru a door (doh) by Talia Ironforge. I presume she's a dwarf as there are Ironforge NPCs in Kaladim but in my haste to escape I never saw her. SoW was still up but I got stuck in a few doors and she stuns and hits for 40 to 50. As usual I died horribly inches from the zone :( Can anyone tell me what Talia and the Ambassador are doing down there. I may have to investigate with my dark elf enchanter Malkieri when he returns to Neriak so I'll post again here if I find out anything else :)
