Apparently, this spell is only sold in Ogre and Troll cities (why though?????), and as a Lizardman, my only option is to research(because I'm on my own), which two required components without fixed mob drop.
So, do I really have to hunt mobs blindly until they eventually drop two completely random items by sheer luck? Or is there a pro-tip somewhere that isn't in the wiki?
I think this spell is kinda too important to be hide behind this kind of barrier at this low level and looks like it's all this way up until almost 40s
It's really depressing to think

Join ancient blood if your on green. The lizard hierarchy helps with attaining the research spells.
But yes, hunting research components stinks and is 100% classic eq.

Ouch, zol ghoul knight for a level 20 spell component, good chance that's wrong.
Make a level 1 troll/ogre, go there on your necro, if the spell is like 10pp do a ground transfer of like 2 topaz, sell them and buy spell on level 1 toon then ground xfer it to your necro. Probably the easiest way.
Also been a while since I played a FD class but can't you invis up to merchant and buy using feign death?

The reason is because Shadowknights can use the spell, and Shadowknights can't research spells. So all of the Shadowknight spells need to be on a vendor or dropped from a mob.
I'm a little suprised it wasn't sold in Cabalis since Iksars can be SK's, but thats EQ. I guess they wanted Necromancers to research it, so they sold it on as few merchants as possible.
Ogres and Trolls cannot be cloth casters, so it would be harder for them to find a random player to do the research combine for them. I assume that was the logic in 1999, which is why Ogre/Troll merchants have it.

I always thought it was cool necromancers had to go study in the libraries of ogres/trolls if they wanted to complete their spellbook. It was like a lesson of inclusion and humility.
Remember eq was designed with an idea that different races would play the same class a little differently due to differing spell availability depending on starter town.

Thanks all, guys.
I spent many hours trying to find material myself and concluded that it was utterly unfeasible, so I did just what you guys suggested. It was a heck of trip for me.
My friends (who lured me into this game) promised some "untamed adventure that doesn't exist in MMOs anymore", and this was indeed it.
When I got back home, I found that someone(u are the goat) had dumped all the material for the next spell, so I happily grabbed it from the vendor. I guess I'm ready for at least level 29 now.
Thanks again for the input
good day to you all

So that's the reason. It's more reasonable than what I guessed. It still feels random, though.
Maybe it's really all about simulating adventure and interaction, as people said.

Try to find a friendly higher level researcher to combine your spells.
Spending time hunting down the pieces just to fail the combine is heartbreaking.

you'd be surprised how much people are willing to help with a simple friendly hello and an explanation of being a new player in need
i once tipped a fresh druid in rags 5k to port / move around 4 or 5 chars and do a bunch of item muling....took us about 45 minutes to get it all done....he was ELATED
or maybe i got conned

I remember once seeing a guy who was really thrashing ports. I told him I noticed it and asked if he enjoyed doing ports. He said he didn't, but was saving up for an item. I asked which item it was - Lumni staff and how much more he needed to save. When he told me, I said I made a mistake and needed to bank. I gave him the PP he needed there and then, wishing him good luck. A few kpp isn't really a lot, except when you need it.
I bet he wished he said he was saving for a fungi, though!
