View Full Version : What is the likelihood that the project could be migrated to an older client?

What's stopping Rogean and Nilbog from migrating the server to a different client such as the AK client? We would get classic boats, classic lighting, classic skyboxes, classic night blindness, stone UI, classic janky F9 camera for third person, the classic nameplate font, working food/drink durations, the possibility of working message boards, we'd lose a lot of the non-classic QoL features in the titanium client, and it'd allow for the devs to make the server even more classic than the titanium client allows. Plus the AK client is was less crash prone. Not to mention it significantly cuts down on the filesize by lacking a lot of the out of era content that bloats up the titanium client. I see only upsides here in making the server as classic as possible, because that's the goal of the server... right?

Unless they can get it working 100% alongside players on the current Titanium client, I'd expect zero. P99 is way too popular to just gamble everyone's game at once.

Secrets worked on getting the Trilogy client to work here, but i I don't think they ever succeeded: https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=288754

The crashing definitely got worse over the past few years, I never used to crash on my old PC but that was pre-win10.

On Windows 11, run eqgame.exe as XP SP2 compat mode and also as administrator. Solved 100% of the crashes on two separate PCs.

Compatibility mode isn't just a win 11 thing.

To be clear I run P99 on windows 10 using XP SP2 and still have the crashes sometimes.

My game was mostly stable except I crashed 80% of the time when camping. Compatibility fixed the camping thing but I still get the odd crash every blue moon. It isn't perfect but it is way better than it used to be.

This may not work, but you can try it.

Edit "Launch Titanium.bat" with a text editor to use this set of commands instead of what's in there by default:

cmd.exe /C Start /affinity 1 eqgame.exe patchme

This will make the game run on a single CPU core, which seems to help with stability.

Only downside to doing this is you need to remember to re-apply it whenever a new patch comes out, as Launch Titanium.bat will be overwritten.

It looks like that case has a turbo button. Excellent.
