I used to love grouping and sitting at a camp with some people back in the early EQ days. It sounds like from what I have seen people don’t do that all that much anymore or there just aren’t enough low level players. Am I just going to be disappointed in p99?

The servers are just old, even a couple years ago there was groups all over on green. You can still find groups, just have to goto hot spots. Server is busiest evening hours, that helps to.

I was qeynos last night and there was 4 or 5 low level new players running around

General treadmill is:

Crushbone
Unrest
Mistmoore
City of mist
Karnors
Velks

Mainly because of exp bonus, ease of access and being outdoor zones except for velks. There are arguably better spots but they're more of a BYOGroup basis. You can usually find duo/trio partners in popular spots like SK aviaks/gnolls.

The upside is some zones are criminally underrated and you get them mostly for yourself or your group. Been leveling my cleric solo in befallen and it has been a blast, never did that zone before.

The goal of this place is classic EverQuest, and grouping is absolutely a part of classic EverQuest. Unfortunately for you, you joined while the people behind P99 are on a little hiatus from that goal.

The good news is they will return (they always have in the past). The better news is that when they do, they will likely merge Blue and Green, doubling the number of people available to group with.

The still better news is that at some point after that, they will go even farther and start a new server. Imagine (literally) thousands of players all starting at level 1: forget about grouping, on day 1 you'll be lucky to find a single mob ;) But soon after we'll all have an extremely classic-feeling server, full of players of all levels grouping together ... and it will be glorious!

Even xp highway is dead except maybe KC.

Rogean was online on green the other day. :fingers_crossed:

I created my main on green in january 2024 and I've always seen several groups in those zones when I went through them. It was admittedly mostly during peak times but grouping is far from dead even though it is the shadow of its former glory.

I'd even argue that you guys remember the crowded zones with teary eyes but places like KC feel cramped with 4 groups and the exp is known to be mostly terrible so imagine how terrible the exp was then when there were 40+ people in zone at all times... much better today than getting like 10 mobs every 27mins in a group of 6.

If you do want to group in the current environment, https://wiki.project1999.com/Group_Hunting_Spots has some suggestions on where you're more likely to find others.

Glad to read green is doing a little better than blue on this front!

I, for one, have partnered with soloing monks twinked to the gills and it was wonderful exp so I'm not complaining!

But depending on the area/classes available, a decent duo/trio can be more effective than soloing. Sometimes it doesn't work out for various reasons but that is part of the game.

Some maybe, but personally I'm soloing a Cleric right now! I would love to get some XP through grouping for a change, but even when I went to popular zones like Crushbone or Unrest, there were no groups to be found.

Not everyone XPing solo is a sperglord doing it by choice: a lot of people (unclassicly) just don't have any other option.

Yeah we had a kid shortly after I started on p99 so I picked a class I could grind solo. Having to drop everything with no warning was not very conducive to grouping, out of respect for other players. I do enjoy grouping so I made a cleric for when I know I have some time ahead of me and I plan on hitting exp highway with my ranger a bit.

I do understand the appeal of soloing though, it is boring sometimes but bad groups are not unheard of and it can be quite frustrating. Good groups on the other hand can be an absolute blast.

That is basically why I've solo'd the majority of my P99 experience. On LIVE, everything else in my life (except my job...mostly) at that time took a backseat. The "demands" of grouping back then almost required it or at least seemed that way.

At this stage of my life, P99 takes a backseat to everything else...mostly. I have to AFK with no warning and no estimation for how long very often because of this.

I've mentioned this to other players and surprisingly, a large portion seemed to not care as much as I would have thought. I do group as I can as I enjoy it a lot more than soloing. I just don't want to be a detriment to the group when I do.

I don't mind at all when people go AFK in groups so long as they just drop an "afk" as they do it. Not knowing a person is AFK kinda sucks, especially if playing something active (like a tank.. or puller... or enc with charmed pet).

But yeah, irl happens, and I think most people accept that lol. I've been having a blast grouping in CB/Unrest/MM, and the times people had to suddenly go afk for 5-15-30 mins didn't do much to dampen that.

this game is dead for new players. no point really unless you wanna solo or have a druid buffing you while he boxes his raid toon

good duo / trio is best

stay away from full groups in KC
