Did you update to the latest patch? You won't see ypur characters if you are on an older patch. Chars probably didn't get wiped unless they were all like level 1. I think they've done a few cleans of level 1 chars over the years.

Check to make sure you don't have a second EQemu log-in account. I couldn't find my main from 11 years ago, but it turns out I had made a second account. I can't recall why... but he was there intact. It's on the left hand side bar "Navigation" on the EQemu forum page after you log in, click on "Loginserver Accounts."
