Paladin Weapon 50 +

I'm approaching 50 on my paladin using the Baton of Faith. What do you all suggest as a weapon to save for? I was thinking maybe Argent Protector or something similar. I'm pretty broke atm, but leveling on freeport guards, so I'm thinking of something in the 2k-5k range, could maybe push it up to 5k-10k if it's something really important.

Any suggestions?

Argent Protector for now (42/49 is pretty great for the price - try experimenting with root jousting) and save for Narandi's Lance to equip when you ding 55.

This is the way. You could buy a Reaver for around 5k if you are on blue, which will be better than Argent Protector. Reaver can be hard to sell, however, so it may be tougher to swap to Narandi's Lance at 55.

Luckily there aren't a lot of mobs that require magical weapons. It isn't too difficult to work around. But yeah you'd usually want a backup magic weapon for those scenarios.

On Green it looks like Reaver's are 7K, Argent Protector is 3K, and Narandi's Lance is 3K. So it will be a bit more expensive to buy a Reaver anyway.

With your relatively small budget and without knowing what you have, these upgrades would be noticeable for your solo game:

1. A weapon upgrade
2. A haste item (if you don't have one)
3. Deepwater Helm (if you don't have one)
4. Deepwater Arms (if you don't have one, saves mana on lulls)
5. GCD item (if you don't have one)
6. Ceremonial Iksar Chestplate (if you don't have one, or a fungi)

Can't really think of much else that would be noticeable on your budget. Perhaps some resist gear if you plan on fighting casters.

I've got SCHW and the Deepwater Helm. Deepwater Helm has made life 10x easier, it's awesome. The other stuff, I don't have, but I'll be working towards it. 200pp an hour, one hour at a time.

Yea I’d be tempted to get a Reaver. It’s going to do at least 25% more dps and those levels are a slog.

Kill a ton of guards in HK with it. Upgrade to a Narandi and you are set to 60.

Even if guilded it’s better to kill some guards, get a reaver, and keep on cruising. I got mine at 45. It was basically self-power level from the Iceflame I had been using.

Epic and ND are definitely nice to get eventually.

Once you have that, buy damage shield pots and burn those while you level. 50+ you should be able to break even with vendor trash drops and the cost of the pots and Jaspers. They make a huge difference leveling as a Pally.

Herbalist Spade pairs quite nice with Deepwater Helm. Yes pally get Root, but Herbalist Spade is 3 minute duration.

Proc root, step back, spam helmet. Rinse / repeat.

yep and not taking damage while casting root is another little min/max benefit

They were different potions, but I remember rolling a Berserker roughly during Omens of War period. I didn't bother with gear at all, I just got a bunch of heal and DS potions and hurtled my way to 50. The early iteration of the epic and 1.5 were crazy good iirc too.

In short:
Sol A Lava Potion = low level mage DS, same as Druid / ranger, also Chardok ring
Sham potion = same slot as Ring 8/9/10 (also same slot as Call of Earth)

Outside Tunare belt and Nev cloak that’s about the extent of it. Chardok ring I guess actually lasts a long time, not just like 12 mins. It’s a big upgrade from Ragefire arms as is the shaman potion from the coldain ring (especially Blistering Flesh).

It’s almost as good a ratio as the Fiery Defender with a similar -100 check DD/stun.
It has worse stats than the epic but a ton of AC
You can’t bash with it.

All in all, it isn’t bad. It just isnt “great”. Not when you can buy a 1/1 2hs or a nearly 1/1 poker with a -100 check fire dot for half the price of a spiked seahorse belt.

Getting a corruptor of life skull and a few WL corrupted kills is way faster than the epic though. It’s an easy MQ. Get it if you are a Tunare pally, don’t fret if you aren’t.

Paladin epic coulda shoulda been a bastard sword that was both one-handed and two-handed depending on whether a shield was equipped, with bash as an option in either case. More of a unique feature based in realism.

Having all weapons being able to split between forms would have been fun. With how difficult they made getting the ranger’s Earthcaller for sure that should have been combined for a bow or something.
