View Full Version : NPC Spawn Issue: Everfrost newbie mob on laughable 13 minute respawn timer

I'm not going to look into how it works/worked on live, as I know the respawn systems of newbie yards were much more dynamic to the degree that this project doesn't cater to perfectly emulating the mechanics, but aims to reproduce the experience.

There is a spawner* for newbie mobs (gnoll pups, bear cubs, spiderlings, etc).

It is close to snowflake / bryndin mcmill's camp.

This spawner has a 13 minute respawn time. No wonder Everfrost struggles to support more than a couple of newbie characters.

That is really not suitable for a newbie zone, this needs to be fixed before a new server launches. I suggest the respawn being far more frequent. Easy fix.

If players sitting on a newbie respawn is a worry, either randomise the respawn spot between 3 places or link the mob to 2 other mobs and make it so none of the 3 will respawn until all 3 have been slain.

* I actually believe there are a couple of spawners around here with a similar time.

Here’s the thing.

No. Make better race choices.

I want to see the pass filled with young Barbies and Kens murderising the indigenous gnoll pups and whelpiest goblins.

LMAO @ Barbies and Kens.

I cannot not think of them that way now. Thank you.

I honestly think everyone in this thread is looking at this the wrong way. The real/classic Everfrost did have a steady stream of mobs ... and it was terrifying.

Look, Barbarian was my first race ever on live, and I'm 100% in favor of fixing Everfrost to have a lot more mobs ... but if it's done right, it certainly won't make leveling a Barbarian any easier!

To the contrary, it will mean a steady stream of death, which new "Barbies" will need to carefully pull from ... if they don't want to be overwhelmed by a swarm of low level mob adds.

That is classic Everfrost!

Okay, this has got me psyched for classic Everfrost.

I remembered the mobs hanging out in the very first part of the newbie zone, way more and also there being way more mobs there at a time.

Also, I don't remember paths commonly pathing by Bryndin and snowflake either. Let alone there being a bunch of spawns just there (like the ones I mentioned above, but also the one right next to Bryndin which they just instapwn on pop).

Instead when mobs path past Halas toward Bryndin before they get to him they hang right through a crevase and go past the igloo with a couple of goblins. The passage between this turn and Bryndin on p99 always has mobs, even some hanging out, which shouldn't really be there tbh.

Speaking of goblin igloos, the goblin caster camp igloos should be a 3 minute spawn.

Prepare for a nostalgia explosion - this is how I remember the first part of the Everfrost newbie area feeling!

I fixed this along with other issues in April 2023 below, but it still needs patched in.

That’s a long time to get code pushed to prod.

You’re the best, Telin!

Can’t wait for future young barbosa to be torn apart by packs of dogs and cubs!!

Wow. Snatching a complaint from the jaws of server advancement.
You get that you get to play here free right?
Nice work scroll.

Idea: Each complaint on the forums regarding slow (in your opinion) code changes nets you a -5% XP "bonus!".
Let the complaints flow.

Objectively speaking it isn't a good idea to let so many fixes go pending update for so long.

If one thing gets borked it may be harder to pin down the problem since so much stuff went live at once.

Agreed. I have a GitHub Actions runner on my EQ Archives mini PC and I use GA workflows for everything. Lots of modern deploy automation is possible now even on bare metal.
