I'm something of an alt-ohlic and like playing may different class/race combos. I've filled up my existing character slots and am thinking about making another account.

Question - If I make a second account for new toons, do I need to get an updated IP exemption for that account so that my wife and I can continue playing together with her using her account and me the 2nd acct?

** Will not be multi-boxing. Will only be 2 people and 2 accounts in use at one time.

only one account needs to have an ip exemption afaik

the real question is, if your account is full of characters why isn't your wife's?

smells like boxing

Because my wife doesn't alt. If you must know, she's got her main druid she's trying to get to 60. She's more of a completionist. She does have an alt shaman & ranger because I like her company when I play alts.

Thanks for making assumptions!

I'd say most people here have multiple accounts, some even go so far as to have 1 account per character.

I do this because if I type /q it's a lot faster for my to swap characters. I've had too many situations where I crash while trying to log in when my characters are on the same account and get locked out for 5-10 minutes at a time, which can be frustrating in a lot of situations. When I'm playing on separate accounts this problem seems to go away.

^^^ same. I have separate accounts for each character and yeah I always just type /ex and totally restart the client when I want to swap chars (obv I make sure I'm in a safe spot without any aggro, if you have aggro when you /ex your char stays in game much longer).

Doing it this way I can swap characters in about 40 seconds, but if I sit and camp and the game crashes trying to go back to char select on that account, I can't log in any other account for like 4 minutes.

I'm one of those people who drops their entire life savings on the ground to transfer it to another character... I've had some meltdowns when I couldn't log back in for 5+ minutes. Someone actually found the stuff I dropped once, and returned it. Ended up becoming one of my best EQ friends as a result.

But like I also have high level enchanters, clerics, shamans. It's common for my group to ask me to log onto my other characters for clarity or buffs or a rez etc. and that can turn into a nightmare if you're playing on the same account as these characters. You may be gone so long clarity is running off by the time you get back, lol.

Do y'all not get hit with a temporary IP block when trying to do that?

I feel like a bunch of times even when I /quit I still get hit with a temporary IP block message when I try to join the server from the other account and it takes like 2 minutes to go away

Have you considered TAKP? I think you'd enjoy the 3-box limit they have.
