I made a dwarph rogue

Now that I have a dwarf rogue and leveled him up to 7 with bone chips, I want to outfit the lil fella with some very nice gear to keep him healthy and dangerous.
I have thousands of plat to splurge on him but don't know what to buy.
Not 20s of thousands but 10s of em.

You'll want to save your money for Rogue Epic so you can hopefully get it at 45.

If you want to try the painful process of soloing, get a Embalmers Skinning Knife and a Ceremonial Iksar Chestplate for HP regen and skimp on some of the armor pieces (keep haste item obviously). A Glaive of Marltek and/or Serrated Bone Dirk too so you can snare mobs to prevent them from running when needed.

Dex does not increase hit rate for melee classes on P99. It affects proc rate and certain skill ups.

My list focuses more on STR, STA, and HP. A dead rogue is not useful, and proc weapons on rogues can steal agro from the tank. Dex can be a bit better if you plan on soloing the rogue, since you can get procs faster on things like Serrated Bone Dirk.

Dex does not increase melee hit chance. Parses can vary, so you probably just got a false positive. Or you were using a proc weapon, and simply did more damage via procs.

You're going to need to provide more than silly attacks to prove your claim Dex increases melee hit rate.

I searched "GetDex" across the EQEMU Server codebase. That is the function used to get the DEX of a character.

It is not used in melee hit chance calculations that I could find. The P99 codebase is based on EQEMU codebase. While P99 code has differences to EQEMU code, you'd have to explain why DEX is not used in the EQEMU code for melee hit chance calculations.

If this was such a well established mechanic, it should be in both EQEMU and P99 code.

I am looking at the codebase that P99 is based off of lol. That is factual code that exists and is used in various EQ emulated servers. Why would DEX be excluded from the hit calculations?

Dex does not increase hit rate. Technically it can increase DPS if the increased Dex causes a weapon to proc more frequently, but this has been parsed extentsively and increased Dex barely makes a weapon proc more frequently than without it. It's not a stat worth stacking for a Rogue.

I see your confusion now, if you have done this sepcific test before.

You are comparing a level 5 character to a level 1 character. Weapon skills do affect melee hit rate. What you saw was the level 5 hitting more because the level 5 had higher weapon skill. It was not due to the DEX.

At level 7, you can start looking for gear that boosts your agility and stamina since those stats are crucial for rogues. Check out the auction house for items like leather armor with agility bonuses, daggers with good damage stats, and rings or trinkets that enhance your survivability or damage output.

Sadly Agility is the least useful stat on P99. The bonuses it gives are smaller compared to every other stat. You only need 75 Agility to avoid the penalty. Anything past 75 Agility is giving you something, but +STR, +STA, +HP, and +ATK items are going to give you a bigger bang for your buck on the stat front. Obviously you want the best Weapons and Haste item you can get too.

DEX can be useful on a soloing Rogue, as they do get access to some useful proc weapons like Serrated Bone Dirk/ Glaive of Marltek for snare, Blood Points for Lifetap when the mob is running, etc. A Rogue that is grouping often does not want to use proc weapons, as it can steal agro from the tank.
