View Full Version : How much plat do you really make porting?

Always hear about how the Druid is a good starter class because of all the money you can make porting. I am just curious how much you earn over say an hour of porting? Feels like it wouldn’t be that much but I’ve never made or played a porter.

Lets say one 60p port every 10 mins, which feels very low. 360p.
If you can do 60p every 5 mins, 720p
Often with only a couple dial on I get a "you're 2nd on the list, that ok?" That said, some tippers are cheap AF.

This answer is enchanter. You can level to 60 with shit tier gear and make tons of money. Druid might have a head start with porting cash but enc will surpass them pretty easily eventually.

Haven’t ported in a while but during quakes you can easily make 500-1k pp in little time. On peak hours I’d get around 250pp/hr in DAP. Some will claim 500pp, but that’s not my experience. Some don’t tip, some are corpse runs, some are newbies and bot enough ppl drop you big tips to compensate for that. Off-hours you’ll be lucky to break 200pp/hr.
You’ll make better pp/hr doing other stuff at 60. It’s a nice little extra income every now and then but that’s about it.

Its something to do in the background, it's good if you want/need a minor distraction now and then.

Enchanter is best but not everyone can play it well.
Druid is basically 0 risk and only requires level 44 which is stupid easy to get to.
If you're starting with absolutely nothing on p99 and are new to EQ, druid is the default "best" answer since you get a good mix of game mechanics and the flexibility of instant travel with a druid. This includes charming, which if you enjoy...port for money til you can do a baseline enchanter twink and have a much easier time leveling (pre-bought spells, etc).
Its always good to have a port bot in the stable...which can become a potg bot if you just happen to really enjoy druid.

Oh this wasn’t really a recommendation post. It was more just curiosity about the income potential from porting. It’s always talked up, but seems like it wouldn’t be that good. Was just curious.

50p is standard fare. Hope this helps.

I make 0 porting. Usually the druid casting the spell is the one getting the money.

I average 500p an hour porting.

Not really.
I average approximately 47pp per person porting over the last 3 months. Some pay more, some pay less.

It's standard fare. Do you know why that is? The leader of DAP used to advertise 1p per level OR 50p because 50 is a round number that's an acceptable amount for porting and practical for people to carry. I think a lot of people forget about the last bit. 50p is standard. You seem to be confused about that. Would you think someone paying 50p would be "cheap AF"?

I always tip 100p. Often times its in the form of peridots though.
I also once gave a druid 5k to run some characters around + a few transfers.

Not worth it for the money IMO. I've been porting since I hit 29 and I've made way less money then when I'm farming. I always port when I'm AFKing eating or w/e, and while it is easy money, the pp/hr is very low with people who either don't tip, tip low, or just too much competition with DaP.
FYI I have reached 44 since then and while I get a bit more requests for ports it's still pretty low.
I almost always advertise for ports when leveling as well, but sometimes just can't be bothered if I have a good camp or am grouping since most camps give me better pp/hr anyway.
I think joining DaP would be the way to go if you really want to make money porting - just being able to negotiate advertising spots would be a huge benefit IMO.

DaP druid here. 50pp is standard. It's not the best way to make money, but it's certainly easy going. And since I play mainly EU hours, there is usually no competition

Basically move to a Balearic island, live off a beach bar wifi selling premium euro ports as your retirement.

I posted some basic math and you were the one who got all aggro that I didn’t use increments of 50. There is no “standard fare” because I haven’t seen anything advertised…ever.
Yea Cecily. I spend my waking days and my restless nights thinking about what other people tip. If it’s more than me I spin into financial insecurity. If its less I judge them with the wrath of a thousand Kardashians. I get really sassy for cost of just over two Greater Lightstones.

Oh the cheap comment on my original post?? LOL
No. I’ve had someone with BiS try to give me 1500 gold before on my non DAP Druid I did a courtesy port for. Also someone who didn’t tip but gave C2.

Anyways I came to the conclusion real quick that Hill Giants tipped similar to, if not better than, most players and were more fun to interact with.

150pp of gold ain’t cheap - you’re just too cheap for str gear and a coin purse. Hope this helps!

Lately it's seemed like the standard tip is in the 40s. Like 40-50 range. Per hour is going to be highly variable though, especially if you don't have a bind at HH/OT hammer
