Hello all
I just found an old notebook with my login server info. Thought I'd lost it when I quit playing about 6 years ago. Seems Green is a lot more popular than Blue, but I just have some low level toons on Green. All my 45-60 toons are here. Is Blue dying?

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's 'dying' but I'm sure it's quite a bit different than you remember.

Basically the servers top heavy so leveling new characters can be rough but generally if you stick to the popular leveling paths, or send people tells around your level, you can still find folks. With you having most of your characters 45+ I don't think you'll have too much trouble.

Most would suggest finding a guild and thats a good idea if you wanna raid and such but I've flown without a guild for 10ish years and have had tons of fun and adventures even without one.

I should mention to you that Project Quarm just launched like a month back if you're looking for a fresh start or a higher populated server.

Regardless welcome back!

You'll be fine w/ your chars on Blue. You have an enchanter to farm plat with and 45-60 theres still plenty of people leveling.

Blue is fine. Plenty of grouping opportunities at most level ranges assuming you stick to the vanilla bean zones that constitute the xp highway (unrest - mistmoore- CoM - KC). If you get in a guild that is somewhat active or have/find some buddies you can build your own groups for elsewhere.

But yeah, it’s really too heavy with population spikes with earthquakes and raid mobs in window. Most of the time you’re otherwise going to be surrounded by the alts of high level folks.

yeah i guess the class C and class R system you might remember from before you left was shut down because it wasn't classic even though it saw at least a dozen successful raid guilds regularly engaging the server. and now it's just 1 mega guild raid logging the majority of the content via quakes. and then you got 2-3 small raid guilds/forces fighter over scraps and some old vets like yourself just wandering around farming.

we're in the end game of speculation now. quarm is a dumpster fire i wouldn't waste time there unless you like hardcore game modes where youre toon can be wiped at a moments notice. keep an eye on eq lantern and say a prayer that rogean doesn't turn the lights off in the meantime.

The R "rotation" tier was basically taken over by two mega casual guilds bent on recruiting more than half the server, then locking out smaller guilds from content. I guess if you were in one of those long lines for pixels you would have got there eventually :o

Idk, Kittens seems to be contesting a lot more natural spawns lately. They also have snagged Doze on quakes and a number of other non-ToV targets. They're def not on Riot's level and there are def some mobs that Riot just has on permanent lockdown (like Zlandi for instance), but seems a lot more competitive than it has been lately.

Blue died when Green launched. Anyone clinging to even Green at this point for anything other then nostalgia for Everquest needs more RL problems. Either server is going to be fun if you have nostalgia and can enjoy it with others. Outside of that, until a fresh server comes, it is honestly very Stagnant on p99 unless you self induce FOMO or drink that particular delusional Kool-Aid lol

You're probably right! I'd allow at least a year past EoT. Luclin gap was obviously shorter back in the day but there is a bit of staying power to p99. Sadly though both servers, while still fun to play with friends, lack the spirit of original eq now. It is a "custom content" meta Norrath that kind of excludes returning EQ players by it's very age at this point. I love p99. I like how they have it structured. I WISH they would either express their limitations or reasoning behind not just purging and restarting or deprioritizing blue at the least to make way for a fresh timeline.

Either way, I appreciate the community I have gained from joining here in 2020, and will be here when they decide its time to press reset button :D

Update. Quarm isn't terrible. It isn't p99 though

I thought of trying it but the third person camera shake was lameo. Plus starting all over can be a drain. Hope they do well :)

The magic of Everquest, for me at least, is in the journey. Starting over is a bad time for anyone on a timeline we've done before, but in 2023 you have innumerable advantages to make it really fun. Between the wiki, Allakazam(sp?), and arguably the most beneficial: Discord, your restart is so much smoother then it once was. Your level of struggle on a fresh server is only limited by you. If you are coming from actively playing on a server where you have friends now on a fresh timeline elsewhere, that is already an advantage.

The UI and camera issues on Quarm are not great at the moment, but I am sure those things could be fixed with time. My worry with PQ is that it is new. Only time will tell if it will have longevity. A private server for a 25 year old video game hosted by anyone for no profit(same as p99) causes concerns over being closed.

The difference in why I love p99 and have faith it will be around is its longevity and experience with their client/systems/community. Quarm is comparable to a business in it's first year. Most fail. I hope it doesn't!

p99 was a mess when it launched in 2009. DDOS attacks and tons of bugs. I quit a week in because it felt unplayable. I am so grateful that the devs and enough players stuck around so the project could eventually reach the level it is at today.

Wishing PQ similar luck. PoP is quite a shift from classic EQ, so I look at it as an opportunity to regain a lost segment of EQ community.

There's something to be said for the reliability of p99. Nobody knows what's in store for PQ. Like a last-minute change to make legacy items not legacy makes it seem like pretty much nothing is off the table. Whatever Secrets feels like doing.

Yea legacy items staying in killed it for me, especially the guise. Iksar being able to get the guise totally negates their faction downside.

Wait, really? What the hell?

People frenzied for 4 months and now guises are permanently dropping?

Yea, wish I had known that from the start and not last minute when they were supposed to be taken out. I wouldn't have wasted my time.

Red was still my favorite time in P99 when it was populated a bit.

And even worse Secrets hinted at potential changes to the legacy rules, but couldn't just come out and say what was likely to happen and ruin the 'surprise'. The reddit/discord is a cult-like environment for Secrets, but I know a lot of people made plans based around the original timetable. We're not the only ones.

I half-think that Secrets did it just because of the pink rubicite armor idea. The argument given is it has been discovered to be "unfair" to remove loot from the game as planned on a schedule announced to everyone. Apparently casual players can't enjoy Everquest without a guise. That doesn't sound very casual to me to be so obsessed with items and what other people have that you complain to the devs instead of just enjoying the game with your friends. Pretty lame.

Those are my feelings exactly. It's pretty ridiculous, not to mention the implications of all Iksar being able to get the guise. Wish I wouldn't have wasted my time. I had 2 lvl 50s and other toons.

Blue community chat ALWAYS turns into a when A happens on Blue, RED is the ONLY way to get ones jollies. I mean come on, hangin' wiff 12 boxing red (faced) neckbeards with a (BIS) char at each level range just has to be fun. Right?
