ID cutoffs for different eras

I was wondering if anyone had done any research on how IDs (items, quests, mobs, zones, ...) were arranged.

Specifically, are there well defined ID ranges that correspond to different expansions. Can an ID cutoff separate classic (pre-Luclin) from post-Luclin content? In any of these categories?

I am interested in either allakhazam or EQEmu DB based IDs, either would be useful.
