If anyones idea actually works, i will reward you with 1k pp.

My brother was the one who originally got me into Everquest back in 2002. During his time on the game- he played only the Fironia Vie server. As you know, thats a Role play server, and you were allowed only (1) character per account on the server. Many of you might mistake that for a server full of /roleplay players, but that wasnt the case, it was actually different. I really don't know how to explain it exactly unless you've Roleplayed Characters in Chatrooms like the ones back at WBS.net in 1996-1999.

My brother liked to play a character that best represented the character
he would role play in chatrooms. That was a Rogue. Now a days, i think
he plays World Of War... crafted breastplate. He did spend a lot of time on the server and had a good guild called "Clan of Brothers" which had a sister guild called "Clan of Sisters" and an enemy guild called "Lust for Blood"

The last time i mentioned Everquest, he said he had moved on to better games. In addition to that, he didn't seem to care much about a classic EQ server.

I'm heading over to his apartment today. Maybe i'll take my copy of Titanium and try to convince him. But i would like ideas from the community. I don't have any buddies in P99 that ever want to Farm/Camp/Quest things, i usually have to ask the guild im in but it usually doesn't work.

Think you have an idea on how i can get my bro to play EQ again? feel free to offer an idea.

I dont know your brother but maybe some alcohol + old stories would work.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is just say "hey man, if you wanna get started i'll twink you out and set you up with titanium - i'd love for us to play together again" and leave it at that unless he wants to talk about it further.

Even if you convince people to play, if they really don't have any desire to play they won't last long or really have fun doing it.

what's with the weird line breaks?

and if he considers himself having "moved onto better games" he probably isn't suited for p99.

but yeah if you insist on trying (cuz not like I'm out to deter you), the above is probably the best way to go. alcohol and/or nostalgia to get him to try it out, then it's all gonna rest on if he sticks with it or not.

I have gotten 2 people to play here. The above is exactly how it happened.

offer your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/own behind for his pleasure.

otherwise.. if he's a WoW guy.. he's probably not build for p99

if he comes back let me know. I'll throw him some pp to get him going.

Some "remember the time xxxxxx".

Offer items of course, esp cool ones that are class only.

PL to maybe lvl 20 if possible.

Make sure it is something you pair well together. You could even start a new char with him both twinked up.

^This.

Make a char and keep it with him, and make sure the 2 work well together.

Depending on his play style, he might just not care to come here... regardless of whether he cares about the game mechanics.

The P99 experience is vastly different from the old live Firiona Vie experience... and Clan of Brothers / Circle of Sisters affiliation implies a heavy (and relatively serious) roleplay preference which on this server is not and never will be present.

Roleplay lite, and roleplay silly are as good as it gets here; and even these are rare. This more a place for the FnF / Reso crowd.

But, it's a heck of a lot of fun!

Ask to install it on his computer so you can 'show him' project 1999 and run him around a few areas that you used to play in. Leave it on his computer and tell him how to get an account. Then once in a while when you go over to his place show him something else you've seen or done since you were there last. If he is interested enough to eventually play, he should be interested enough to have you show him stuff you are doing.

This is exactly how I got my RL friends to play ;)

Mix it in with some old school screenshots on a smartphone etc and you've got him in the bag.

One thing though. When he logs in and starts leveling, he's going to feel like it's taking alot longer than it did back in the day. Assure him this feeling is normal, and make sure to toss him some plat every once in a while for those "zomgineedthisiteminECnow!" moments.

I kind of feel bad for your brother. There really isn't a harder or deeper mmorpg in existence. Trust me, I've played pretty much all of them... this is kind of what I do. EMUs are where the very best gamers in the entire world are congregating now, and there will be legends made here.

There are a few elements that Everquest is missing, such as unconsentual pvp and a true skill-based leveling system (such as evidenced in Darkfall or Oblivion), both of which I feel add a massive amount of excitement and playability... however, the unparalleled depth of Everquest more than makes up for the lack of these two mechanics.

And WoW is just Everquest for Complete Idiots. I don't really consider people who play WoW to actually be gamers. They are more potential gamers who badly need to be awakened.

I personally think WoW's pvp was exceptional compared to EQ's pvp. Can't blame someone for wanting some pvp with a smidgen of balance and quality.

Also, I find it funny that we get on our high horses and praise our beloved EQ when we are playing an emulation of EQ that follows a very, very short span of Everquest's runtime. Everquest itself turned into "Everquest for idiots" otherwise you'd be playing live ;)

WoW PVP is not balanced in my experiences.

It is a constantly evolving and changing landscape of "this class is OP" and then the next patch it makes "that class OP".

Flavor of the month power struggle...not balance.

I agree it had many flaws, I merely said it was head and shoulders above anything in EQ.

Tell him that the classic server has a decent population with all types of players from raiders and roleplayers to tradeskillers and questers.

Tell him there are usually players in every zone, and many of these players are helpful and friendly. These people are playing for FREE. I think that makes this a unique community where players are here mainly because they love EQ.

Show him some of the forum posts from here. Some are quite entertaining, and give a little insight as to what the playerbase is like.

If all that fails, go the alcohol route. Get him drunk, install the game for him, fire it up and run thru some of the old zones.

Good luck!

The best you can do is make it easy for him to try it, and then drop the subject.

It sounds however, as if he is just not that interested. If he really thinks WoW is better than EQ, then you have no prayer.

Having played an enormous amount of self-described 'pvp' mmorpgs, and even most normal rpgs pvp aspects, I totally disagree with you.

Everquest pvp was very dynamic and personal. There were heroes and leaders in every single class, people who were known to be absolutely deadly with rogues or beastlords, and everywhere in between, that wouldn't be normally intuitive.

The harsh death penalty (which many of these games ignore) was an immense motivator for the survival role at which many people excel but are not rewarded for in many games, not to mention pure excitement at every turn.

After Shadowbane, Darkfall, EVE, Everquest, SWG, Anarchy Online, PotBS, UO, WoW, in no particular order, and among others... I'd have to say a disproportionately large number of my most vivid memories are from Everquest pvp. Sullon Zek was like... Afghanistan meets the Gaza Strip on a bad day.

Those were the days of our lives.

THOSE WERE THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES!!!
You sound like Uncle Rico reminiscing about the glory days of high school football. ;)

A fair amount of people could prattle off a list similar to yours and not everyone would agree on which of those had the best pvp, especially when nostalgia kicks in. There are just too many variables (most of which don't even have anything to do with the game, but the community you happen to be surrounded by) for everyone to have the same experience. Guess I was talking from a game mechanic standpoint. Vivid memories from rose colored glasses, while certainly enjoyable, are not an accurate measure of reality.

That is exactly why I listed the exact game mechanisms whereby pvp becomes more exciting, more meaningful, and just plain works on multiple levels. If you want to poo-poo, bring some toilet paper next time... this thread is about how to get his brother to play, not to shit on each other's plans.

Plat, items, Power level a lil bit....good to go.

Or Twink the hell out of a guy, give it to him...and play side by side.

or..to be a evil bastard. Go on a "trip" i dont really know where but make sure its a hotel with wifi, bring a laptop...and only have Everquest on it, he'll have no choice but to play, with his premade account all set up ya digg?

Have to agree with what many have said. I also used to play on live with my bro. He got me into it, we both started during Vanilla EQ back in 1999. We went through several different chars until we each settled on a main which for me was a necro and him a mage. We duoed all the time all the way up until about 06 when we lost interest as the more expansions that came degraded EQ more and more. Not to mention at this time I was accepted into Beta for VG. So after him seeing me play VG we both just jumped on that game and played on and off for a few years.

Well we all know what happened to VG. Its still there but its like on life support. I tried to show him P99 and recounted the tales of our Norrathian adventures from long ago.

His response was basically a chuckle and similar to the OP's. After our expirience in VG, he just can't get back into the old antiquated play style of EQ grind with no flying mounts, low end graphics, etc especially with the limited time he has now days.

Basically all you can do is offer, if hes truly interested he will play, otherwise atleast you have your memories.
