Ranger Bow Crit Damage

At least around the time rangers received their attack bonus (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=402934), which was presumably meant to help compensate for the removal of triple attack (https://web.archive.org/web/20011126085902/http://pub4.ezboard.com/feqasylumranger.showMessage?topicID=436.topic), Velious rangers were reporting higher damage from archery; AFAIK those numbers differ significantly from project1999's.

Archery damage?
Whoa. Stealth buff, anyone?
I did 8k w/Trueshot tonight (my normal average is 5-6k), and if I hadn't run out of good arrows it would've been 10k. I just couldn't seem to hit for less than 300. Lucky run, or is anyone else noting a sudden archery damage increase?

It's actually probably you getting closer to what you should get. Not sure what bow you use, by my normal hit vs Yelinak / Phara Dar with Trueshot / Primal is 300-400 range, with crits at the 800+ mark.

Haven't noticed any difference, but then 8k for a round of Trueshot isn't too unusual for me anyway if I am properly buffed :) I've been thinking though... since we're now getting an innate offense bonus instead of triple attack, won't this affect archery as well?

Easy, look at your atk rating before compared to now. Its higher. I don't have the exact number, as I can't remember precisely what I used to have, but it looks like 20-30 extra atk prior to any buffs.

Thanks Ulaian, unbuffed prepatch 1hs atk was 1095. Now I need to look at what it currently is.

Same conditions as above atk is now 1123, 1069 without swiftwind.

Just letting u know with a 30 40 boz used to do like 300 330 hit with arrows (2x dam included) and crits up to 976 ( my best at lvl 55 with low dex and 210 in skill )
With a 20 30 bow the best i can hope is a "pityfull" 210 and once when it rains (with 30 40 it was " normals" hits ) and my best crit is barely 350
So CHEER 60 delay of this bow (i may dream of 15oo crit maybe hehe got higher dex and skill now ).All u need to do is get this one .
Bah it s still a dream .... i have to go get one too first :D

Acutally highest critical using trueshot on the glade is said to be 1100ish on a velk the sorcery. The bow was a efetti bow. Since delay is one of the factors in damage on trueshot. IE higher delay larger hits.

Darby's arrows were summoned from a Tolan's bracer... so whatever damage those are :P

The 532 damage was a critical hit, did not include a proc, and was double damage (as I was standing still) while using the lvl 55 trueshot disciplne.

He has since scored a 602 crit :) /cheer

I let Darby pop a few shots at me with his 55 /disc. A few things to note: his archery isn't maxed, his str/dex isn't maxed, he isn't lvl 60.

Still he did some awesome damage... check out how often I had to be healed :)

Hail Bortas,

Not sure if a whirlwind spell exists, did not find it looking at the enchanter spells. The proc is a 100dd, and a levitate/stun/spin that seems to last up to 10 seconds (normally less). I am still learning about it myself.

Far as other details...well I still have yet to get a max crit with Trueshot *shrug* so far my best hit is only 456 with double damage and /disc bonus. With my previous bow (33/60) my max was a critical for 504, which has been hit on several occasions. I will edit it later after I get lucky with some big blows... but those are far and few between. Right now if I was guessing I would say the average hit is for 90, and 180 if standing still (without root).

While I have never seen a ranger bow crit go over 1k, getting them in the 700-900+ range is something that does happen on p99. One of our rangers got a 968 and these 2 below are my personal bests:

I hadn't heard of this or seen it in action/logs before, but thanks for the info! 968 seems close enough to the highest rumored max crits to the point where any difference would be negligible, assuming there is one.

If the average for double damage is around 300 or 400, than that would also appear to be in line with classic numbers and would mean that "8k for a round of Trueshot isn't too unusual" for rangers as stated in one of the posts above. If that isn't the case, than it shouldn't be too difficult to dig up more logs and screenshots from that era to illustrate the difference.

8k for a round of Trueshot is normal with a good bow/arrows, that's 66 dps. I don't have a ranger but I've done a bunch of Trueshot experiments before since ALS actually had a bunch of active rangers and I was looking at experiments for dealing with Sontalak/Gorenaire/Queen Bee/etc. DPS varies a lot based on target AC, but usually I would expect between 7k and 10k for a 2 minute Trueshot duration. https://wiki.project1999.com/File:Ranger_bazzt_zzzt.png for example is normal in my experience and was tracking for 10k damage over trueshot.

The reported Crits historically do seem higher than we would have on P99 though, I have also seen 900+ damage crits here but they were with Windstriker shooting at low level targets, not Exquisite Vellium.

Yeah the long delay main hand weapon bug is the only means to get something that damaging. If they ever fix this you will not see these high crits/damage.

As it stands Ennewi is right. The ranger archery damage on P99 (without this bug) is extremely low compared to reported damage before the Luclin release.

Precision Discipline on an Ogre Warrior with A Weighted Axe and Exquisite Velium Reinforced Bow or higher makes -> my ranger with True Shot + Earthshaker + Exquisite Velium Reinforced Bow frustrated.

Good point. Zith, the ranger in the screenshots, is shown to be dual wielding. Pretty sure that's a Smolder (https://wiki.project1999.com/Smolder) in their primary, so they aren't taking advantage of two-hand delay which, from reading ezboard/etc, was known about and discussed back then. Best I can tell, the only bow they're using is the one off of flurry drakes (https://wiki.project1999.com/Bow_of_the_Silver_Fang).

I'm pretty sure that damage bonus isn't multiplied by the damage doubling from either unrooted stationary target or Trueshot disc, so the impact on the total crit value would be rather low. You can see the exact damage bonus in the disparity between hit value and crit value (56 damage using earthshaker). You seem to be ignoring that the higher crit came from a dual-wielding ranger using BFG + Swiftwind.

Are you saying that you found discussion in-era of bows using the damage bonus from equipped 2h weapons instead of the bow?
