Anyone have advice on how to get this Item? I can't seem to get one to drop. I have used my enchanter to charm suicide every golem in chardok for weeks now and I can't seem to get a golem to pop with the staff.
Never done chardok stuff yet, are you sure the staff will be visible on the golems?

I'm not 100% sure on that. I tried to give 2 handed blunt weapons to some of the Golems. Some of them visibly wear it, others either do not display it or do not wear it all. A lot of the Golems in Korocust room do not seem to wear weapons or simply don't display it. Only information I have on it is 1 or 2 Enchanters who claimed to have gotten it after a EQ/Server Reset and the Golem that dropped it was visibly wearing a 2 handed staff.

The staff is visible on the golems when they have it. Just looks like a regular wood staff. It's pretty rare, Ive gotten a couple in koros pit after quakes. Is the best chance since every golem repops

It was a lot more common in chardok 1, when their was golems in the betrayer tunnel

Hmm. Interesting. I tried to give some of those Golems weapons, but they didn't put them on. Do they already have weapons on or something?

Are you amiable faction? I always give them the slave whips and they equip them, visibly
A lot of them have 1h maces

If your below amiable they need to be charmed to equip whatever you give them
If your kindly plus some of the casters will buff you as they run by

I wish I knew a way to farm these as well! I'd suggest just farming plat and buying one, it's probably way less of a time investment sadly

They are rare and under valued, niche too because no one levels mage past 55

They were around 1k pre revamp, if no one levels mages why the hell are they so expensive now? Assuming the golems were pulled during that time, everyone and their mule should have one rotting in the bank

Is that blue server prices? I imagine blue was flooded from all the ae groups clearing ever golem twice an hour.
On green they were definitely more common pre revamp but green never had the ae groups clearing everything
Yea blue server, I remember buying one for 1 - 1.5k before the revamp and sold it for the same. Now the wiki shows recent auction listings for 15-20k.. farmed to infinity on blue, yet that price tag, I guess to PL the cothbot army?

Id prob farm and buy one. it's kinda nice but more for at 60 while trying to just add dps mana-free. for leveling up I never found mine very useful, at least how mages solo

I had one on my mage and ended up getting rid of it.
I hated the long cast time.
It’s only “Mana free” when you ignore the lost med ticks. Factoring in the long cast time it actually costs 45 mana per click. Its still better than using 45 worth of mana in a head to head comparison but let’s not be silly and assume that 24.666 dps is anything to write home about.
I’d rather actively manage my real source of dps (the pet) and have plenty in reserve from the extra med time to effectively keep DS up and lob bigger nukes on priority targets than stand there spamming a 13.5 sec click for a pretty crappy DD.
One of the biggest perks of the mage is it’s such a relaxed and “not busy” class.

It's good when you have a hard fight (eg. you were fighting one mob, and got another as an add), and you're OOM but the mob still has a few HP: the Burnt Wood Staff is perfect for finishing them off.
If you're desperate, have JBoots, and are using the earth pet, you can even get the pet to land a root, back it off and run as far as you can while staying in range of the staff, and then start the staff cast. You should have time to land the spell before the mob gets to you, and then you can send the pet back on them until another root procs.
It sounds stupid, but when you're OOM and your pet is almost dead, but the mob still has just enough HP to keep it from running, those sort of shenanigans can let you turn a loss into a win.

This is some emergent gameplay, nice! I used the staff a lot while leveling on blue, it's a great piece of kit, and with the resale the way it is, worth buying

It's quite good in certain applications. 24 DPS mana-free is nothing to sneeze at. You aren't going to be able to maintain that with normal nukes, even with C2. If you're the primary DPS in a duo/trio or solo farming things like like Ice Giants or Seafuries, you can get a lot of mileage out of it. When solo, that extra damage can often allow you to stretch a single pet out over a mob that might normally require an extra summon, which massively increases your efficiency over time.
Just think of it as the Mage equivalent of mashing Backstab or Flying Kick.

I'm not currently in a guild that can get FTE on Velketor. I would also need to compete with the million other Riot mages that want the boots.

^ this.
Get the staff if you want it for fun or use at 60. I just picked up a summoner dagger which is less reliable dps but if grouping its also fun (and cheap). It also has stats and looks like a tunare dagger.

Assuming you had 255 dex (you won’t ever on a mage) you’re looking at 590 damage a minute average. Less than 10 dps and about 1/3 of burnt wood staff dps. You’d actually just do more damage meditating without any clarity and nuking.

The dagger isn’t equiv. Even a fesh staff is a fun meme. But the dagger is more readily available, cheap, and fun if bored. I paid 1.5k for mine. I have a BWS I never use either so they are almost the same benefit.

That said…
Any melee slot proc item with stats is notable to keep equipped over one that takes two slots and gives no stats. I lose about 150 mana with the burnt wood staff. The Fesh has amazing stats pushing that principle further.
Also if one chooses to tryhard they can swing once and sit between med ticks which literally allows you to gamble-dps and not give up anything in return. Or you can swing once before casting and swing once after casting too, so literally just throwing extra dice. Assuming a PC is tanking the mob.
My vote is getting both. More toys = more fun.

If you're not dueling a shaman to get slowed and med tick swinging to get a proc between casts are you really trying?

You can't actually reliably track the med ticks
