Hey guys-
Bugaman here, have a 50 Warrior. Some of you might remember me from like a year ago before I moved to this remote location when I was constantly playing with the folks from Gothic Circle, anyway after doing a massive amount of troubleshooting I've come to the conclusion that it must be my ISP that is not letting me connect to the server. So is anyone else using Hughesnet ISP and able to play on P99? Please let me know.
Also the error I get is Error 1017: "Patcher / Connectivity failure blah blah blah." I can't make it past Server selection but I sure can see all the servers, including P99 =*(**. Anyone out there that can help? I had no problems logging in back when I lived in the city and had comcast as my ISP, please help.

Even if you could connect, you would have so many lag issues its not funny. Satellite internet has a very high latency (a round trip ping takes 1000-1400ms)

I've grouped with someone in the past who was running on sat internet. He had ok playability as long as there was not to much going on. Worse was when he would disconnect because the generator ran out of gas.
edit in: that was on live, not this server.

I tried playing EQ on what is now known as Hughesnet back during PoP-era and it was horrid. I could connect and log into the game just fine, but basically you have a 5ish second delay between *everything* you do. It was not playable because of that.
I'm sure it's gotten better since then, but the biggest downfall was the upload time giving the delay. They had a system in which you could use a phoneline (dialup) for upload and then use the satellite strictly for download that supposedly made it better, however I never tried it.
On top of that, Satellite internet is (was?) terribly overpriced. Sign a contract, pay an outrageous disconnect fee, etc.

So then does anyone have any ideas on an ISP I can use? I'm up in the mountains in Northern Cali, about 25 miles from the nearest town. Comcast (My old ISP) does not provide service out here. So any ideas on a connection that will let me play with you all again?

Thought about a 3G card?
I always wondered where you went too, man. (It's Finawin)

Aye. I'd go with a 3g card if you have cell service in your area. If you don't, and you *really* want to play EQ, Dialup would work better than Satellite.
Have you checked with your local telephone company to see if they offer DSL? DSL has been moving more and more rural these days...

Back when sat was new, you used to send packets via dialup, and receive through the satellite. You could static route eq through the modem, and it was hell on earth better than through the satellite.
The only time I would pull the route is for multi MB patch days, of which we distinctly lack here. I play on my 3g card all the time, but be warned that eq does use a good bit of bandwidth, so watch your usage.

@Finawin: Hey mate, glad to see your still here unfortunately there is no cell carrier that works up on the mountain I'm at so 3G is not an option =/. Thanks Fina, tell our friends I miss them and hopefully will be back online asap...
@all other P99 and forum members: Thanks for all the replies and feedback, As far as DSL goes, we do have phones out here, I've been calling around and a technician from "Suddenlink" is supposed to come out this week to see if my property is "servicable", but as of about a year ago Satellite is supposably the only game where I'm at, all my neighbors have it. well if all else fails maybe I will try Dial up, does anyone even know if that Archaic technology works on this server? Thanks again.
