If you want the cheapest options:

https://wiki.project1999.com/Glowing_Stone_Band +
https://wiki.project1999.com/Globe_of_the_Everburning_Flame .

Those are what I use on my tunnel mule. You get infravision and a greater light stone light source. They take up a Ring + Ranged slot, but those slots typically don't have exceptionally high stats in them until raid gear.

https://wiki.project1999.com/Eyepatch_of_the_Shadows is going to be a better upgrade for melee when you can afford it. That piece has good enough melee stats when compared to other pieces you can put there.

https://wiki.project1999.com/Crown_of_King_Tranix works too, as melee classes can always use +20 MR.

Not to be confused with the Mage Focus items these torches are found on merchants all over Norrath for a silver each.

Doubles a light source as well as an item that enables dual wielding on a charmed pet, who will now have a light source.

Humans get the most out of items.

Ask a mage to summon you a coldstone. Those were livesavers early on for me.

What class? Glowing Stone Band easiest to swap in as needed if on a budget.

/who all mage
If level 16, can summon heatstone for infravison
If level 29+ can summon coldstone for ultra vision

Items will disappear when you log off. You can circumvent this by asking a player to /duel you and killing you. You will not lose EXP and the summoned item will stay on your corpse for next play session.

I never do the above, I just whisper a mage, who is more than happy to help 99% of the time and will be even more surprised if you actually give them a tip.

Reroll :p

Something helpful for humans is for the groupmates and their pets to carry light sources too, especially the puller.

Cast flash of light on yourself whenever the urge to complain about night blindness arises. Every time FoL wears off, you'll be grateful that you can at least vaguely make out the faintest impression of landscape unless you're in the Surefall/Blackburrow tunnel.
