View Full Version : How often are the WK/NK Hill Giants camped on Blue?

I doubt Rathe Mountains or Everfrost Giants are ever open or not camped round the clock, but I figure since only one/two giants spawn in WK/NK and they roam, they're not camped as often.
Is this the case or are they also camped 24/7? Those are the spots that I'm looking at once my Druid dings 39 since I can track wherever they roam, and will hopefully get him to 49/51 because the high level skeletons in Paineel are camped far more often than they used to be, making it hard to get consistent exp there after 37 or so.
Edit: Sorry, the two that spawn in EK, not NK.

Doubtful that they are ever super camped

I only kill what gives me steady income. Paineel guards are a consistent 8-10pp each. It's how I make my money for gear while I level, especially since I intentionally started this character fresh with no funding.

WK/EK Hill Giants all have placeholders now. You'd easily find them open. When I tried them, I'd get a Hill Giant about every 2-4 spawns. Wasnt worth the effort

Actually it's so I have money to afford parts of the Epic and Thurg armor when I hit the appropriate level. I don't like killing things that give no plat. I'd rather be 46 with a fat wallet then 60 and dumpster diving.
I do a round trip of shopping for new spells and gear every 5 levels on my Druid. Whatever I raise in those 5 levels, I bank half of it, and the other half is my spending budget, so I'm always saving up little by little. With Paineel guards it's roughly 500pp-1kpp per level.
Of course, the other part of it is that Paineel guards are an easy camp that don't aggro, and I can bind and sell right there to boot. So not only is it good money, but it's super convenient.

Eh, as long as it's safe, relatively consistent, and I don't have trouble tracking the giants or the PH, I can probably wing it.
Level 33-37 mobs at Paineel are all on a 27 minute respawn timer, while the giants and their PH are on 6m and 30s, so a giant every 2-4 spawns is roughly the same exp in that scenario, but average three times the plat per kill.

I wonder if level 39 will be too tough for you? The giants have a lot of HP and I seem to remember them having good resists.
I know with my necro, they seemed to go down fairly easy at 47, but I wonder how it would have been at 39. Scary I imagine.

Druid can rootrot, I can snarekite as a fallback and there's plenty of room to run, especially with SoW. As long as I keep my distance and don't burn all my mana on nukes, shouldn't be terrible.
I think geodes in CC are harder, TBH. Nowhere to run except to zoneline if things go bad (and there may or may not be an ambush waiting for you when you zone into EW), through a bunch more of them, and they have an assload of HP. That's one of my favorite camps from 39-49 though, for the chance at high-plat chipped gems.

Brother I’m telling you, you will struggle at 39 with the ice giants. They have like 5000 hit points and have good resists. You might be able to kill 1 but you’ll be oom and it will still take you forever. My guess is that you will be dealing with so many root breaks, you’ll be hemorrhaging mana just from having to recast that. But try it out, maybe you’ll get a good process going with them.
44 will be better not just because of your new spell line, but you’ll get less resists. I’ve camped these both on my Druid and my necro. They hit hard and die slow. With necro it’s easy because snare fear pet is such a mana-cheap way to do damage. Druids a little harder because less dots, and root breaks like crazy.

Hill Giants, not Ice Giants. I wouldn't do Ice Giants until 44-49, and that's assuming the ones in Everfrost outside PK aren't camped round the clock.

Ya hill giants are easier. If you can quad them it’s even better. Ice giants aren’t bad once you get the 3 locked down

If you're talking about Qeynos Catacombs spectres, noty, no welfare mobs who don't cough up the cash on kill.

Generally spectres drop a bunch of scythes. Idk how the sewer temple guard ones differ in p1999, but on live they dropped scythes the same as any other. Scythes are 10pp each, bronze ones 3. They drop these most of the time and often gems worth about 10. Argyn shielstan the sentry also drops a sword worth 20pp.
There are 8 spectres in oasis and a bunch in ocean of tears. The ones in Feerrott are well camped.

Interesting. I'd assuming the ones in Oasis are either camped often or difficult to camp solo because of social aggro?

The outside four and ground floor spectre are all singles. Iirc you can pull top floor solo using cancel magic (can’t explain).
On a wizard or druid I’d suggest binding OOT and doing spectres/gornit/seafuries/jboots porting out to other areas when oot isn’t working for you.

Mmm...alright, I'll give it a try when I hit 39. If it looks like Spectres are camped regularly and I have to wait hours to get any action, back to Hill Giants or Paineel.

Bro if you have a Druid with all the ports just join DAP and port a bunch. I’ve made over 5k pp in a long session of porting when I had a guy in DAP. You will make so much more money than grinding giants and things like that for plat.

Not a bad idea, however I found that even at a lower level, I just bound myself at HH in Ot and offered to port to WC and a couple of other locations. It was decent PP.
Most people at HH either want to go to wakening lands or west commons. So I could at least get half of them.

So the evil area then. I should bind just outside it near the water I'm guessing?
IF I choose to go level there. Porting people around isn't something I want to be doing constantly, it's more of a downtime thing when nothing I want to camp is open or I don't feel like actively playing, it's more of a semi-afk thing. That's why I don't know if I'm the right fit for Dial-A-Port, because I actually want to play this Druid later. The main goals are to complete the Epic and a full set of Thurgadin armor through MQ, plate house and gem farming in WL, and also to get into and learn some light raiding, namely Hate/Fear and Kael.
Around 49-51 the spots I'll be looking for action at are WL geodes or sentient armor, earth elementals at Hole entrance, Ice Giants outside Permafrost, or Grik the Exile in SoNH.

Bind inside the walls. On the cliff between the wall and the ocean. It is safe there.
People congregate there as the hammer which procs a port to OT lands you on the dry docked boat just next to the cliff.

Best place to bind in my opinion is on top of the wall. That way you can run to sky fire or HH without the need for invis or avoiding undead.

On topic, how often are WL geodes and sentient armors camped. Depending on how expensive Thurgadin Leather MQ's are and how contested the drops are from Kael, I may or may not try to farm most of the gems on my own.

There are usually geodudes to spare. Even in off times suits are likely to be busy. But it is a quick trip for a quadder to check.

Armors must be really good cash then. But geodes are a potential jackpot too. I killed one on live a long time ago that dropped two Blue Diamonds. Made for a profitable evening by itself.

What is the placeholder for the giant at 193, -10100 in WK? I got 7 to spawn in a row but didn't see its placeholder as I was semi-AFK. The brown bears, I'm guessing? A lot of them around this spot.
A little rough at 39 with the early root breaks and he has more HP than I thought (Drones + Immolate combined only do about 3% a tick), but it's workable.

If you have track set to normal then the mob st the top of the list is the most recently spawned. If you don’t see the ph spawn you could deduce it by looking at what spawned since the timer has elapsed.

In my limited experience they're pretty contested during prime time but a lot less so during off hours.
Also, consider going for HOT gear imho! 49 isn't as far away from mid-50s as it may seem!
