I played MTG Arena until I created the infamous "The shuffler algorithm is definitely wrong" thread on the forum. I noticed early on something was up with the algorithm either mana flooding or mana screwing you way more often than expected, posted about it and it would up like hundreds of pages of back and forth bickering about it from the playerbase lol. Someone even did a statistical analysis showing how it was flawed. I never said "rigged". Didn't think it was rigged, just flawed.

I'm currently playing Elder Scrolls Online and War Thunder. Casually. Got no time for games like I used to.

I just found out this weekend that Crowns Of Power is back. It's also 100% free.

What is Crowns Of Power? It's an old little-known MMORPG from a tiny handful of developers that blended the traditional MMORPG with Magic: The Gathering from years ago (not the more recent versions of it which are focused on creatures). There are no "classes", instead you choose two of the colors. You start with one color and add a second at level 10.

It shut down years ago but was bought and relaunched I think two years ago. It's old but fun.

The colors follow classic MTG pretty faithfully in concept. Red is damage, Green pets and buffs, Blue mind and crowd control, Black DPS debuffs, and life leech, White protection and healing. And there's PvP if you want.

Albion Online is a great time... seen some familiar names over there too on my travels.

Sirken, Jibekn, and various others from P99. The pvp is good (and optional for the most part)...and generally if you just want to craft, build or be a fat cat trader its all possible. One of those something for everyone games with a great art style.

Hey there! I love playing Albion Online, too. It's one of my favorite games to unwind after a long day. I also play Project 1999, which is now occasionally. But Albion is my go-to game.

playing around with Bing's Chat GPT as a tabletop roleplaying game campaign writing tool. randomly generated towns, npcs, items..etc for these games are nothing new but the Chat GPT interface makes it pretty interactive. it doesn't have the functionality to read a public google doc yet so i have to re-feed it all the text it generates every session 2000 words at a time

but this is what it spit out so far after giving it a prompt like "create a fantasy town with 8 locations" "create a NPC for each location." "create relationships and adventure hooks involving these NPCs in the town" ..etc..etc

Easiest way to do it is wands of monster summoning. Use gold to sell one to a vendor then buy it back with 99 charges or something ridic

Then spam it every second. Drizzt will be chewing through them with bits flying everywhere but as long as you keep re-casting he’ll never get through all the fodder

Then shoot him with arrows. You’ll need like a 20 roll to hit so it will take a while unless you are higher level, but that’s the easiest way

Well, technically the easier way is to put down a thief trap, rest, repeat, until there’s like 10 traps down in one spot. Then coax him over. But that feels more like cheating

you start the game off with 4 level 0 peasants and try to get hopefully at least one of them through a level 0 funnel adventure alive to level 1 where you get to actually pick a character class.

Trying to get the best ending gets super complicated and deep. You can really go down the rabbit hole getting to the floating islands and getting the 3 dragoons

Then make the ultimate killing machine unit, princess lich lich in the back row, 2 dragoons in the front row. I do not think any enemy in the game including the last boss can survive their attacks

I can't wait for Medieval 3 but they're milking that Warhammer license for all it's worth. Not that that's bad as there's an incredible amount of variety packed into those three games but Medieval 3 is what I've been waiting for for over a decade.

pretty nice to see a longer list, there are a lot of games in there i haven't even heard of. great year for games overall finally, after covid threw a wrench in all things.

Metroid Prime is still my fav gamecube game. The soundtrack is amazing, and I have an old set of speakers that work for surround sound.

I have the recently remastered one for switch (ofc) but somehow it's not quite the same. I ordered the gamecube-esque controller (it's unplayable for me without it) but something still feels off. It does look and sound great though.

Recently tried playing palworld. Why is every single unreal engine game conspicuously similar in really specific ways? They all look like reskinned fortnite, or maybe fortnite looks like reskinned something else. I don't really care but it's super lame.

Forced 3rd person, offset to the left by default, when you're low hp you crawl around on hands and knees and teammates can hold left click to revive you, also hold left click to swing your axe\weapon from left to right exactly like when you use your pickaxe in fortnite. How is any of that part of the "engine" and not just game design?

I hate the unreal engine not because it looks bad but because every game (or at least many) that uses it feels like a cheap shitty mod.

Yeah the scaling definitely needs work. Plus just completely bullet sponge enemies at the hardest levels isn't that enjoyable either...kind of lazy design IMO.

But the good thing is the devs are super engaged with it/the community so I wouldn't be surprised if things change substantially over time.

It’s so odd you guys are discussing BG as I just started a new play through. I had downloaded the ‘new’ expansion to Bg so i could play thru that with my old character, but I couldn’t find the file to import my character so I’ve started again.

Decided to go for wizard slayer. It feels like a less complicated version of fighter so I can focus getting thru the game instead of going too deep into planning button pressing.

Figured wizard slayer made sense after seeing Gorion torn apart by magics in some kind of magical vendetta- the pendulum swung the other ways and the character now loaths wizardry.

Specialised in quarter staff tho - obviously still was taught how to walk and fight in Candlekeep after all!

Pump out a lot of swings with a lot of +dmg per hit! It feels strange going back to 2nd ed or whatever after immersing myself in 5th.

the actual interesting part of the dumb fuck sandbox game is the spycraft elements that were on the levels akin to the cold war.

just one example, an important dude got hacked in rl and his sexuality was used as blackmail to effect ingame politics and help in an ingame war, the community's response to this dude being forced out of the closest was a play on "no I'm Spartus"

Grim dawn graphics / mechanics with diablo 2 classes + a dual class system and the amazing item / loot system Items from diablo 1, 2 and grim dawn (rebalanced)
Full Diablo 2 campaign and Diablo 1 visually remastered full campaign. Tons of hidden area's often often times with very hard bosses.

This throne and liberty game is like WoW. Every 10 minuets ive learned a new crafting system, or some insanely complex task based system.

I'm 12 hours in and I have not once killed something to obtain loot or grind EXP. All Ive done is run from one town to another talking to NPC's (speeding through massive amounts of dialogue) while observing what "looks" like an MMO, that I am not participating in.

Im level 15 and I have literally killed like 10 creatures I spammclicked through without even knowing where my HP's are on the UI or worrying about anything.

Multi and dual classes are a good theory.

Pity I got me zero/minimal game time as it is.

A quick read of the rules seem that you get the best of all worlds. A D and D mage warrior couldnt wear restrictive armor and cast for example.

Has to be "at least one" based on the legendary cobalt breastplate on the first page of the link (being warrior only).

I like that knight idea. Maybe bard monk paladin. Bard gives exploitable casting at full selos speed movement plus mesmerize and fade and overhaste and tons of crazy self only songs you can keep up between fast cast knight spells. Plus that hand to hand skill from monk might be "handy" when using an instrument.
