I just saw this article, https://quanticfoundry.com/2021/08/05/character-gender/, and thought it was interesting.

In a typical core PC/console game, about 60% of the female avatars you meet are played by a male player.

Almost one out of three male players prefer playing female characters.

Obviously, P99 might skew a little differently than the "typical core PC/console game", but I imagine it's pretty close to accurate.

So now if you're wondering "hey is that wood elf chick really a chick?", you know: the odds are about 1 in 3 :)

Around 40% of my characters are female on blue. It didn't start that way. P99 changed me.

I always laugh and make fun of MMO players as fat, nerdy men in their 40s but then I get into voice comms with EVERY SINGLE GUILD I've been in and at least half of the players are women.

I just assume 90% of players are sweaty dudes, but no, there are many potential victims err...friends to be had on MMOs.

When I was playing classic WoW (the 2020ish version) in a few different fairly large active (80+ players) raid guilds, discord was almost entirely dudes

And by dudes, I mean often extremely drunk middle aged white dudes. I was amazed at the amount of substance abuse in the community. And I’m not some prude who doesn’t drink or do drugs. But these guys were alcoholics. Like drunk to the point where you couldn’t understand them talking anymore and then would see their char standing afk and they’d get booted from raid group because it was clear they passed out

Very very few women though, felt like 10, at most 20%

Also notice that when you see female characters they're almost always one of the hot sexy elf races and not like a female ogre or troll. This is the first clue that they're 99% pervy guys.

Although a lot of the female armor sets in EQ are just better looking than the male versions. Dark elf female plate just looks so damn cool.

Nope, I never play Alliance. It was Horde.

Horde became cool once blood elves were a thing. When WoW came out all my RL mmo nerd friends made a guild together and they forced me to go horde. Undead are actually pretty cool and at least we got to murder dwarves. Turned out to be the right decision in the end bc blood elves > night elves.
