I took a break from working on the Character Texture Update Project (http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=28572) to do something that has bothered me for some time. Well actually a lot of little things. Basically I went though as much of the default UI as I could and removed things that are not, nor ever will be on Project 1999. I also made a few edits to various windows that I felt makes them better, more streamlined or smaller without sacrificing usability. I remade a TON of the window components to make them pixel perfect. I also overhauled the class animations to make them more fluid with a faster play rate and motion blur. Plus I added back in the classic flash at the end of the animation.

There are so many little changes I may have forgotten a few, but rest assured, they were all for the better on Project 1999.

Update 7.20.11
Thank you everyone for all the useful feedback! I've incorporated as many of the changes as I could.

The tradeskill window for stationary tradeskill stations is glitched or something and will always open to the new (non P99) window and you would have to click "Experiment" to get to the old (P99 compatible) tradeskill container. The best I could do was to simplify that window and remove all the broken options. I also renamed the labels so new people will understand what they do better.

The hotbars was a weird one. For whatever reason my version of that file only had one type (vertical 2x5). I looked at the ones from the actual default UI that Savok had and was able to make a pretty damn good version. I made hotbar 1 the standard vertical 2x5, but hotbars 2 and 3 are horizontal and one is the reverse of the other, so you can have two together and it looks good, or you can shove one to the side of the window and have the spinner on which ever side you like. Finally for hotbar 4, I added a vertical hotbar for some flavor.

During my editing of the hotbars I realized the buttons are really pixelated and ugly, so I decided to remake them in my standard pixel-perfect way. After remaking them and trying them out again, they looked better, but still had artifacts. I did some research and discovered that the EQ client takes the UI .TGA files and then recompresses them to .DDS when you load the game up. Unfortunately it does a HORRIBLE job of it. I decided I'd take the quality straight to the graphics card, so some of the .TGAs are now .DDSs and everything looks perfect!

I intend to eventually convert the entire UI to DDS files as I make revisions.

Could you do the Vert UI when you get time as well ?

HAHA! Yeah. Those things pissed me off so much. You have no idea.

Doh! Yessir...

Looks nice. Only one problem; No item names in the Item Display Window. That's gotta suck sometimes.

Could you do the Vert UI when you get time as well ?

Nope. I just did the default one, because that's what 99% of the people are used to.

If there are any specific elements that you like from another UI, point them out. I might add them into this UI so long as it 1. Does not interfere with usability and 2. Does not take up more screen space then the original.

I thought it would at first too, but then I realized... when would that ever matter since you have context menus? I don't really use that ui anymore anyway because it just didn't feel classic and playing at 1920 by 1080 really bummed me out! The boxes get so tiny. :(

Only thing I see it missing is when you hit the "EQ" button to bring up the menus. It still has all the optional menu's for AA's, Leadership, and the such.

Yeah. As far as I could tell, that part of the UI is server side or hard coded. All the UI files have for the EQ button menu is size and placement of the options, but it doesn't list those options. So I wasn't able to remove them.

Glad to see these little things piss other people off too. (I'm not crazy! Woohoo!) =)

Just downloaded this. I have one complaint, the EQ button, when I right click on it, I do not get the window with the Background, Alpha, and Lock options. The EQ button is stuck where it is and I can't move it.

Also is there anyone that has a graphics set for the spell icons with different looking icons. i.e. a lot of spells have the same look, a gray shield with a yellow background and sometimes in my haste i click the wrong one because they all look the same.

Right click just to the right or bottom of the actual icon. I made a little invisible hangnail there for you to grab onto. (I totally forgot to say something about it. Sorry sorry!) I just thought of something though; What if someone tried to put it in the bottom right corner!? Looks like I've got a revision on my hands here...

As far as the spell icons. I use the classic icons. (Those are the ones I grew up with dammit!) A lot of the icons are the same, so I just hover over them to find out which one is which. It's a bit lame and time consuming, so I'm considering adding in something like Vert UI. It has the names next to the icons. Although it would make the UI considerable larger if I did that, so I'm trying to come up with something nicer then that.

I like it and I'm using it, thank you:)

Yay! Good to know people are enjoying this.

What about just changing the colors, like the shield icon protection from cold, a blue shield; protection from fire, red shield; protection from poison, green; protection from disease, black. The same thing could be applied to healing and curing.

From what I understand the icons are assigned a number and that number corresponds to a spell. All those spells use the same number for their icon. Change one, you change them all. And it's server side as far as I know. It might be in the spells file, but you can't modify that either as far as I know. I would think if it changes in size or what ever they use to detect it on the server, then you will get that spell files out of date error.

Sorry man. =/

I have a question about the UI - It seems to use the big window for tradeskill containers (sewing kits, spits, mixing bowls) and since that ability didn't exist in classic, P99 makes you switch to the "Experiment" side.

I'm perfectly okay with that, but I was wondering if in a future revision, the UI could remove that first part?

Pretty sure it was never on Classic as I quit EQ after PoP.

You can pull xml files from my default UI which have all those changes done.

Xevin: I haven't looked but did you modify the WDT_Default draw template in the animation file or did you just make a new one? If you did the former then the files can just be dropped into the UI folder, otherwise you will need to change the xml drawtemplate first to match the slimmer design.

Wow! Totally forgot about that one. Definitely going to be a revision now!

LOL I butchered the animations file so much... I forget what all I've done to it, but I had to tweak just about all the window templates. Just about everything really. I would be surprised if I didn't edit WDT_Default.

I'll look at what you did on your Default UI. I might be able to get something working from it. Thanks for the info. =)

Hey sorry for no reply for a while. My job has been incredibly busy! (62 hours this week and counting.)

If horizontal action bars are part of the default UI, then they should work on this UI. I can't test it though because I'm at the office right now. I'll look into it on Sunday.

So if using Duxa's, Horizonal action bars aren't available?

Added an invisible border on all sides of the EQ button that you can right click and get those options. It also acts as a move handle. =)

I couldn't remove that window entirely, but I was able to simplify it and remove all the unnecessary junk that's not classic. It's the best I could figure out. If someone has a better way, please let me know.

I added 2 horizontal hotbars and 1 vertical one to the new release. Sorry I missed that one in the initial release.

Hey yall! It's been a long while! My friends just convinced me to start playing again and I too wanted to use this UI. Luckily one of them still had the files and I re-uploaded them to some new file hosts. Enjoy! (Also, for some reason I can't update the first post. Anyone know why?)
