I read that meta made 35 billion in revenue last year, while everyone was making fun of them for wasting 1.5 billion on metaverse.

As castle says, buy at the dip!

These sleeper bots are amazing.

Have there been account hacks? Password database leak?

I can't wait to see what my account will be supporting once I get hit.

When they announced the Metaverse, I knew that shit would fail.

Facebook SecondLife?

Without weird sexual kink rooms?

Nah.

Where I grew up there were huge insular communities of single parent families. Each household was small: a mother, a child or two and maybe a grandmother.

They were almost invisible IRL - working part time during school hours just wasn't profitable. Instead they'd be shut ins at home, rarely venturing out for the occasional supermarket shop or visit to the school gates. If you didn't know they existed you wouldn't know.

I somehow stumbled my way in to one of their circles for a while. I was amazed to discover how ubiquitous their secret existence was. Each community consisted of dozens of mums, in constant online communication with each other. The modern day versions with whatsapp groups and facebook pages must be quite formidable!

They took to Secondlife like ducks to water.

I eventually lost contact with the group I had became acquainted to. I think this is the enormous hidden demographic Metaverse may have hoped to target.

Zuck got luck with Facebook, plain and simple. When he was in college and still (at least sort of) a human being, he had an idea for something his fellow human beings would like, and he executed very well on that idea.

But to make "the next Facebook" you need both good execution and an idea for something people actually want. Zuck has proven that he has neither: either he got lucky the first time, or Facebook's sucess made him soft.

Either way, no one wants the metaverse ... with our current level of technology at least. Zuck's complete detachment from humanity/reality made him fail to see that.

As for execution, Zuck could have (literally) financed hundreds of start-ups with the money he spent metarversing. If he'd started a VC firm and just funded anyone who came through with an even vaguely VR-related idea, he probably still would have gotten a better return on his investment vs. what he got for the money he spent on his metaverse.
