Minimum Weapon Delay

Should be no minimum delay on weapons. Not sure exactly what it is now but did some tests with a Moss Covered Twig. All tests done on a 54 Monk with Moss Covered Twig in Primary and Fist in Offhand. 225 Double attack (55.8% chance to double attack). Keep in mind some of these calculations are thrown off by double attack chance. Would be best for a Bard to test this with NO double attack.

Test 1 - No FBSS (No Haste) - Haste 100%

153 swings in 101 seconds (Should be 10 delay) Parsed at 9.805
Calculations (10 delay = 1 swing per second)
101 seconds = 101 swings
(101 * .558) + 101 = 157 swings

Test 2 - FBSS - Haste 121%

133 swings in 68 seconds (Should be 8.2644 delay) Parsed at 7.906
Calculations
(68 / .82644) = 82.28 swings without double attack
(82.28 * .558) + 82.28 = 128 swings

Test 3 - FBSS + Aanya's Quickening - Haste 185%

112 swings in 61 seconds (Should be 5.405 delay) Parsed at 8.4722
Calculations
(61 / .84722) = 72.00 swings without double attack
(72 * .558) + 72 = 112.17 swings (Should be around 175)

Test 4 - FBSS + Aanya's Quickening Haste 185%

123 swings in 62 seconds (Should be 5.405 delay) Parsed at 7.8481
Calculations
(62 / .78481) = 79.00 swings without double attack
(79 * .558) + 79 = 123.082 swings (Should be around 175)

With spell haste it seems there is some sort of cap when there shouldn't be. Would really appreciate a Bard testing this.

Bixie Blade Stinger in Plane of Sky used to be a 2/6 weapon - Paladin only. Doesn't really make any sense to have a delay cap at 8 or 9 or 10 or whatever the stupid myth was and then turn around and put in a weapon with 6 delay.

I beleive this delay cap is hardcoded client-side on P99 and most likely cannot be changed. Even if it could be changed, However, It would need to be changed back to the 8 delay cap very soon, like in less than a month. So basically all this is mute.

The twig and other weapons like it were godly on live. They are pretty much crap here on p99.

Go parse on live, you fill find there is a min delay of 8.

Think about what you are saying btw, You think these folks at P99 put in a cap? lmao It was already there, in the titanium client they used.

10 delay is OBVIOUSLY not the lowest a weapon's delay can go, look at the parses WITH haste in my first post. No, it's not hardcoded. Fuck.

10 delay is what is coded into the emu code (which could be and probably is different from p99). A previous poster is saying the client is hard-coded to 8. Your tests are saying that the delay floor is 8.

You're right, 10 delay is obvioulsy not the lowest delay a weapon can go to. 8 is the lowest delay, and there is no evidence suggesting that it can go lower.

Conclusion? It is possible that the client is hardcoded to 8 as the lowest possible hate.

Proof right here that there is NO MINIMUM WEAPON DELAY. Look at this sample of data from a Beastlord in 2004 using the Moss Covered Twig in offhand. Beastlords do not get the skill double attack. They only get a chance to with the AA Bestial Fury. With Bestial Fury 5 their chance to double attack is 20%. He has the Ambidexterity AA also but I am unsure on how much this increases dual wield percentage (Gonna assume 8%). With Ambidexterity and a capped dual wield skill the chance to dual wield would be 74%.

(DW skill + Level / 500) + 8% = Dual Wield chance
(260 + 70 / 500) + 8% = 74%
Double attack chance = 20%

Offhand Calculations

249 swings in 140 seconds
(249 * .20) = 49.8 Number of times Double attack fired
249 - 48.8 = 199.2 Swings WITHOUT double attack
(199.2 * .26) + 199.2 = 250.992 Swings factoring in the times DUAL WIELD DID NOT FIRE

250.992 * .557786 = 139.999

In effect the delay on the Moss Covered Twig was 5.57786

Hell, you guys can even imagine he had the Moss Covered Twig in the main hand.

First, you're assuming that 74% of these attacks came from that weapon by using average percentages which you're basing on what you admit to be assumptions....so it's basically assumptions and averages, and on top of that the sample size is only 249 swings.

On top of that even, you don't know how many of those swings were ripostes. Did the Beastlord have the double riposte AA? If so, his potential number of ripostes increase by 50%.

There are so many unknown variables in those calculations that your margin of error is ridiculous.

Therefore either the log shows both offhand and mainhand attacks, or your math is still wrong, which would indicate a delay of somewhere around 2-3.

Again, as was stated nobody's discrediting the fact that you might be right about minimum delays (so stop attacking me like an angry little child), all that's being said is that your margin of error in your calculations is extremely high.

The client-side log doesn't adjust for things like that.

The fact is that with all of the variables present, including the potential of lag spikes fudging the data, a tiny window of 0.25 seconds is too small for your data to be conclusive.

Judging by your posts on Ripostes it looks like you have no idea how dual wield works. I'll explain it to you. Main hand weapon/delay has absolutely no relevance to the offhand. NONE. He is using a Moss Covered Twig. Assume he has no haste. The delay is 10 (thats one second). Each time that delay is up there is a check for DUAL WIELD. Either you succeed and your offhand fires or you don't and nothing happens. Thats it. The log shows ONLY offhand attacks. Parsing that log WITHOUT determining how often dual wield fires would give you a DUAL WIELD PERCENTAGE OF 100%. Hence my previous post.

Do me a favor and go back and look at that parse. LOOK AT THE ENTIRE THING. Does it look like there was a lag spike in there? Honestly this is just stupid. You do realize a parse is still fairly accurate with a lag spike don't you? I'll give you an example. Your character lags and you do 30-40 attacks in a two second period and get a flood of damage data. When your client catches up to the server there will be nothing in the logs for the TIMESTAMPS YOU WERE LAGGED. All there will be is a big gap in seconds. Total time and total damage are UNCHANGED. The only part of lag that could affect a parse is if the thing you were fighting DIED during the lag. Quite obviously that did not happen here.

You're assuming that in 250 swings that the RNG normalized at 20%.

Random anything has the possibility of streaks, it's possible that in those 250 swings you actually had a 40% rate of double attacks which would mean your actual delay was much higher. You could also have had only a 10% rate of double attacks which would would result in a significantly lower calculated delay.

You can't simply assume that because something has a 20% chance that it actually occurs every 5th time, it takes a very large sample set (in the thousands) before you can claim with a high level of confidence that your claims are correct.

My calculations were all wrong in the previous post, disregard it. Thanks to Roran for pointing this out to me and helping with them.

Sample of data from the Beastlord in 2004 using the Moss Covered Twig in offhand is still the same. Beastlords do not get the skill double attack. They only get a chance to with the AA Bestial Fury. With Bestial Fury 5 their chance to double attack is 20%. Omens of War did not come out until September 4, 2004. This expansion raised the level cap to 70. This parse was done on or before February 18, 2004. So in fact his level was 65 and his Dual Wield skill capped at 245. I'll raise the percentage I'm assuming Ambidexterity adds to 10%.

(DW skill + Level / 500) + 10% = Dual Wield chance
(245 + 65 / 500) + 8% = 72%
Double attack chance = 20%

Offhand Calculations

249 swings in 140 seconds
249 / 1.20 = 207.5 Number of swings WITHOUT double attack
207.5 / .72 = 288.194 Swings factoring in the times DUAL WIELD DID NOT FIRE

288.194 * .48578 = 139.99

In effect the delay on the Moss Covered Twig was 4.8578

Imagine he had the Moss Covered Twig in the main hand.

Main Hand Calculations

249 swings in 140 seconds
249 / 1.20 = 207.5 Number of swings WITHOUT double attack

207.5 * .67469 = 139.999

His delay would have been 6.7469

I am going to attempt to show you guys just how accurate this parse is. Here is a log from Project 1999. Level 54 Monk. 252 Double Attack skill. No haste. Moss Covered Twig in Offhand.

(DW skill + Level) / 400 = Dual Wield chance
(252 + 54) / 400 = .765%
(Double attack skill + Level) / 5 = Double Attack chance
(225 + 54) / 500 = .558%

Offhand Calculations

206 swings in 176 seconds
206 / 1.558 = 132.22 Number of swings WITHOUT double attack
132.22 / .765 = 172.8366 Swings factoring in the times DUAL WIELD DID NOT FIRE

172.8366 * .9820 = 175.999

We know the delay on the Moss Covered Twig is 10. Using my calculations the delay on the MCT comes out to 9.82. That is off by TWO hundredths of a second. I guess I probably just got lucky though right?

You're assuming that in 250 swings that the RNG normalized at 20%.

Random anything has the possibility of streaks, it's possible that in those 250 swings you actually had a 40% rate of double attacks which would mean your actual delay was much higher. You could also have had only a 10% rate of double attacks which would would result in a significantly lower calculated delay.

You can't simply assume that because something has a 20% chance that it actually occurs every 5th time, it takes a very large sample set (in the thousands) before you can claim with a high level of confidence that your claims are correct.

Put 250 for the control group size (approximation). Since the master group size is essentially every combat round between beastlords with this particular set of weapons/skill levels and this particular mob that could ever take place, this value is infinite and you can enter in some arbitrarily high number to represent this. The margin of error doesn't change much whether you enter 10000 or 10 billion- it remains around 6%, which means that one can say that a second parse of the above beastlord against the above mob would give a calculated delay within 6% of the stated delay 95% of the time.

In other words- the margin of error is small enough to not throw off the final delay in a meaningful way. It would be nice if the data set were larger, but the posted calculated delays are lower than 8 by enough to render it a moot point.
Fun fact- most research surveys use a sample size of 1000, giving approximately a 3% margin of error.

This thread definitively shows that the AA added 7% to the chance to dual wield to some player. While this doesn't show that the AA added 10% to the beastlord and I can't find a good source that shows the AA's individual effects, this does suggest that 10% is a good ballpark number. The AA could not have added so much more or less to the chance to dual wield) that the beastlord's delay would be higher than 8. The AA could actually add 0% and the calculations would not shift by enough to change the final analysis.

Are there uncertainties in the calculations? Yes, but even in the most extreme case, this beastlord would have a minimum delay below 8, rendering any minor errors irrelevant (and all of the proposed errors thus far are relatively minor). Therefore, it is possible for the delay to go below 8. Therefore, 8 is not the minimum delay. If there is one, it is not at 8.

Gonna bump this again I guess, Kanras lowered Minimuim Delay to 5 (.5 seconds or 500 milliseconds) sometime a couple of years ago.

Minimum delay should only be determined by how long it takes the EQEmu server to tick.

I do not know this value but this is what it should be.
