I recently dinged 52 on my wizard and discovered that Manaskin is consuming 2 pdots per cast, instead of 1 as it should. For evidence, I offer the following:

Archived www.graffe.com from June of 2000. If you click on "spells" on the left it bumps you to September 18, 2000. Click on lvl 52 and find the following (bold added by me):

Manaskin
Skill: Abjuration
Mana Required: 330
Spell Duration: 1200 ticks (2 hours)
Casting Time: 5.0 seconds
Spell Recovery: 2.25 seconds
Description: Personal shield that will absorb from 521 (L52) to 591 (L59) damage to yourself only. While it is active, it will add 1 mana point per tick (6 seconds). This spell uses a peridot when cast. Manaskin is stackable with enhancements such as Clarity and Mana Song.

I've looked on earlier versions of graffe.com and september 18, 2000 seems to be the earliest version of the "spells" portion the internet archive has, so I searched through archived patch messages.

All patch messages from January 2000 - June 2000, no mention of manaskin.

All patch messages from July 2000 - December 2000, no mention of manaskin.


Based on that, it is reasonable to presume that the information from graffe.com September 18, 2000 is applicable to the current point of the P99 timeline, and manaskin should only be consuming 1 peridot per cast.

It should definatly be 1 peridot.

Also the recast delay should be 0.00 seconds. The only delay this spell should have is the global coolddown of the spell bar.

P.S.

I thought i was running out of dots fast on my Necro! Can't beleive i didnt notice it was taking 2.... Once this is confirmed and changed, I would not be mad if i checked my bank one day and found a few stacks of dots! /sarcastic humor

This is definitely a 2 peridot spell, it gets changed later to single dot use

This is one of those times when I scratch my head and try to really try hard to recall playing my wizard on live, this is such a small thing to really remember.

I recall it being 1 dot, as hard as I try to remember.


The links provided are a good start to showing that, Along with the fact that every single other skin spell for mage and necro uses 1 component.

If it was changed from 2 dots to 1 dot like you say, it had to have happened before late 2002 or lucy would show the change, and it doesnt.

If you really recall it being 2 dots, please try to find something that shows it. People can recall things wrong, I can as well. What we need is forum posts, wayback website links ect showing something reffering to this spell using 2 dots..

As it is right now, it looks like this should be changed to 1 dot.

I don't ever remember this spell using two Peridots. I played a wizard on live from when the game was released until Luclin came out. As others have stated, I could be wrong, but I think I'd remember something costing 20p per cast instead of 10p per cast.

While the wiki doesn't mention it, the mana regen seems to be working.

Two dots is annoying though.

It was 2 dots. Sometime in between Kunark and Velious it was changed:

if true this is one of those times a bug should be altered to cater to player base, not everything was looked at with a fine tooth comb on live. seriously 42 plat to cast a self skin shield, really are you that much of an ass?

ep99 staff did change mechanic of fd and charm BEFORE actual time lines to live. Fd was 100% to land as long as the spell component was cast. Same with charm, wich was fixed due to enchanters having a red con charmed pet last full duration. Even though live game time line it took YEARS to fix.

minor easy database change

2 dots to cast is broken and in 2012 it dosent make it feel classic

similar to the high hold keep pathing exploit wich was in game for years, and sony couldnt find a fix for it, and would just have gms invis periodically to catch exploiters.

here on p99, staff had the same issue and high hold keep was un expable for close to a year before they found a live fix for it, it was classic, if your gonna 'keep it classic' some changes are necessary and unnecessary, this is one of those. Its a flaw bug in the game mechanic wich took a long time to overlook, we have more resources today on a 10+ year old game to not burdon player base with "classic this classic that".

Spell needs to be looked at with regent cost.

Please save your opinions, they don't matter. The only opinions that matter are the devs'. Everybody else can only use cold hard facts.

Treats' data would indicate it should change some time between now and end of server timeline. My guess would be that this was one of the things that changed in mid-late Velious when SoE took over and re-tuned tons of stuff. I'm too lazy to dig through the wayback machine that much, and not poor enough to really care.
