Sort of want to make a caster as an alt... But it seems like there are already 5000 druids and mages running around. Also a lot of necros.
Any suggestions of a caster class that's good at soloing in classic? how about wizard?

Can a server ever have too many clerics?

my computer isn't so good.. that's my reason for not choosing a healer.
At high levels, I don't think "oh sry, got some lag" is an excuse for a cleric letting 1-2 people die. Not gonna risk it

Be a chanter, we need more crack dealers out there.

That's understandable. With the good comes the bad.

I think the problem is that historically speaking, the server has been at lower populations making it difficult to find a group. Of course some classes had an easier time of this than others.
So you see a lot of mages, druids, and necros, as I assume some people don't want to be bothered trying to make a group with such limited population.
However, I, as many others, have recently joined which pretty much made getting groups super easy. I'm only level 11 but have been able to find groups consistantly since level 5 and don't forsee it stopping.
Best advice is to make what you want, not what others say you should make. Will turn out 100% happier, regardless of how "popular" your class is.

not a bad idea.. i've certainly never played an enchanter..
how would you rate their solo capabilities though? (I know it's not super high.. just asking for the hell of it)
Lets say a necro is a 10 at soloing (outdoors at least), and a rogue or warrior is a 1 at soloing (not sure, just guessing)
what's a chanter? talkin about mid levels, lets say 20-40. I assume a chanter can't solo at 40+ haha
edit: I might just make a wizard... teleporting is dope... they do huge damage, what's not to love. Mages are all gonna suck when a few expansions come out

Enchanter can be argued as one of the best solo classes in the game, even with the nerfs to charm.

wow.. very tempting to start one, i've never considered playing an enchanter...
what kind of solo tactics do they use? charm something, haste it, slow the mob, and shitty nukes? or what..
sorry for all the n00b questions, just tryin to get back into the game and have some fun =)

I boxed an enchanter for most of my 50's when I was leveling my paladin on live... so I can't speak too much to their solo abilities.
However, as a Paladin, enchanter was a perfect "partner" for me, and I'd imagine that's the case with many other classes.
I guess my point is, you won't lack for the ability to group, and you'll often be able to effectively grind experience with just one other player through 60. Excellent partners include, but aren't limited to: Pal, SK, Rng, Wiz, Mag. Slow, haste, cc, and crack make you everyone's friend.

Charmed mobs of the correct type (usually in a given zone, there will be one or more preferred mobs to charm) do quite a bit of dps, so your nukes aren't really necessary, but otherwise yeah, that's what chanters do to solo pretty much.. Throw in some invis, some lull, some procing weapons you picked up (gnoll hide lariats w/ stun proc is nice, serrated bone dirks with necro snaredot is also nice), and all the sudden those mage pets look kind of gimp. At high levels it becomes extremely powerful bordering game-breakingly imbalanced if you know your shit and have good gear. I think the GM's still need to tune a couple things about the class in general, but overall a very good choice.
Just keep in mind that there are quite a few enchanters already on the server, since that seemed to be your original concern. I agree with Crone though, play what you like.

Shamans can solo and they are not that many on the server right now.

That could be because they are off soloing and farming their own shit. I dunno but it definitely seems like enchanters are everywhere at level 50 and not uncommon to have 3-4 on a raid. That isn't necessarily bad, but not necessarily necessary(lol).

how has anyone not said Sham? (someone just mentioned it)
chain class so your not as squishy as the int casters. great dots + root = solo beast
SoW -> other great buffs, make you highly wanted
you can DPS, utility, or heal in a group.
if i hadnt started a necro then i would have started barb shammy without a doubt.
