Ah, that's right, Surefall Glade port wasn't classic... when was that added?

If you are stuck there then you may either petition for immediate character assistance OR you may (FOR THIS ONLY) send me a tell. just send me a tell something like "Erudin boat still broken. I'm headed to Qeynos"
If I do /who yourname all and you are sitting in gfaydark asking to go to qeynos you won't end up in qeynos :) so don't try to scam me :) You have to be at the docks in qeynos to get to erudin or at the docks in erudin to get to qeynos. if you want to go to kerra isle/erudsxing then specify that.
otherwise you are welcome to petition that the boat is broken and you need a port to qeynos, erudsxing or erudin.
If you send me a tell in the middle of the night and i'm non-responsive i probably fell asleep and didn't log out like a dork. EVEN if i don't show on /who all just send a blind tell :P i'm around a fair amount. I just stay anon/invis

Now this is Classic! the other evening I was heading over to Erudin, took the boat from Qeynos, got thrown off the boat as it zoned into Erud's Isle, swan the length of Erud's Isle until I found land, waited for the boat, finally caught the boat heading to Erudin, never saw the platform and wound up heading back to Qeynos, looking forward to another trip on the boat. On the "plus" side, I got my fishing maxed during my various waits for the boat. (I jumped ship the second time to Erudin and swam to town, everything can be overcome)

Erudites rejoice! A message in a bottle just washed up on the shores of Odus and it reads:

I spent an hour trying to recreate the erudin shuttle bug on my test server about 30 minutes after the post first went up. The shuttle worked consistently. I tried a blind fix in this patch for what I thought might have been causing the problem. It apparently didn't work. Unless the bug gets fixed, there's no point in me addressing it. The reality is still that you'll have to petition or swim out to the boat yourself in order to get to Qeynos.

Hah. This is actually pretty entertaining. I rolled up Alzar, Erudite Wizard. Got to 2nd in the nightmare that is Tox and decided that it wasn't any better 12 years later. I remember reading the FAQ and seeing that boats were working, so I go sit on the skiff for, oh ...an hour. I didn't know anyone, and I was, for all intensive purposes, the only player on the whole damn island for over 16 hours. I go back to Tox and get pwned repeatedly, so I get annoyed and go back to the skiff and sit another 45 minutes. I started drinking (me, not my character), and began to laugh, thinking this was literally ...Classic.
About that time I had just about given up and was going to re-roll and right after my 4th shot of jager, I did a /who and lo' and behold, there is another player here! He tells me the boat is working, but the skiff is not. So I run back to Tox and sit at the druid ring for about 2 hours. I died another 12 times just sitting there, but by God, I'm getting off this damn island. Wrenn shows up and graciously shoots me to NK, binds me in the gypsie camp, hits me with SoW and Invis, and off I go. Once I made it to the river, it was like riding a bike and it all came back to me. In fact I swore I saw the trail in the pixels I had made long ago, hauling bags full of rusty weapons from Splitpaw to Qeynos, at encumbered walk speed, so I could afford my my first suit of bronze platemail. I was crapping diamonds half the time, and it really brought the old feeling of playing at release home to me for the first time in years. Of course by this time, I was 'round the bend - so to speak - so a griffon, or Froon and Choon could have stuck it right in my ear and I wouldn't have really known.
In any case, I made it, got a bind, and the rest is history. I did consider sending up a quick petition back when I was on the island but thought that was a bit too ridiculous. Hell, if I had gotten a petition like that back in the day, I would have grinned and said "Swim it. Let me know if you lose your corpse. Have a nice day."
I swear to you, when I get my ports, trips to and from Odus will be free. For everyone.

I like to swim in the water and watch the ship pass by. Then I dive underwater and go to the bottom and drown and repeat the whole process making shapes on the ocean bottom. Nothing greater than swimming across the entire zone just like sharks would and getting killed if you don't swim (+1).
I think after all this me and sharks are closer brothers than ever.

Now you know what I was referencing in my /tell to you last night. :)
As stated, I didn't know at the time, mainly because I had only been on the server like a day and didn't know much, short of what I read on the FAQ.
But hey, all is well. I did it the ole fashioned way.

So I've kinda been out of the loop for a while, but is putting a TLer on the dock while the boat is fixed out of the question? I mean, I hate to be that guy that posts a suggestion that's been ruled out already... but reading through the thread it seems like putting that little gnome bastard or whatever it was back in is easier than having a guide be in charge of zoning people

I think these devs may consider that a blow on the "fail" side if they did that. They worked so godamn hard to get these boats working and now........ :(

Having a guide do it is just the same, but just sillier if the TLer is an option... imo. They worked so hard but the fact is it's not working :P. Once it's fixed, take the TLer out and the boat's working again.
/tell Amelinda I am in Qeynos and want to go to erudin please.
Hail, Translocator Gnomedude. Travel to erudin.
preeeeeeetty much the same. except the translocator never sleeps and has no other responsibilities.
*note, even the hail part is optional

Yeah, but imagine a brand new player coming on board and starting in Erudin. He will see that TL'er and think "same ole, same ole". I don't think thats the image the development team wants. Granted, it's no good having it broke either.
In any event, this is kind of upsetting at this point. :(

New player sees TLer and thinks same ol', same ol'.
New player sits at the dock for over an hour (as was posted above in this thread) and it never comes and thinks same ol', same ol'.
The end result is the same, except situation 2 he loses an hour. idc whatever they wanna do.
A TL'r is only the first ripple.
Keep the damn things out.
TLers were in for a looong time before the boats made their debut. if you're trying to argue that once the "first ripple" occurs there's no going back, you're wrong by historical evidence. Furthermore, a guide doing it is a TLer.
but, again, I'm just arguing for the sake of arguing and increasing my post count with something substantial. whateeeeever they wanna do is quite fine with me.

Create a TLer with slightly different quest text saying, "somethin's screwed use this in the mean time" everyone is happy.

1) Slippery slope. Either substantiate your point with evidence or drop it.
2) A GM providing TL services is the exact same thing as having an NPC act as a TLer; the only difference is that having the GM do it takes time away from the GM doing something more important than porting people around.
A TLer would be an ideal solution until the skiff is fixed, if only to alleviate "work" for the GMs porting people around, but only for this one spot. Verant did the same thing every time the boats broke, no reason Project 1999 should be using GMs instead of NPCs for the job.

well before the boats they simulated that with timed spawns of the TLers. but hey. if you want to take this on as ytour responsibility who am I to try to talk you out of it.

Or just have felix the cat turn his bag into a boat.
Is there a way to get the info about this boat added to the FAQ?
Before playing here I tried to do my basic research of reading that and a few other things, which said that boats were working, only to roll an Erudite and then spend nearly an hour waiting and then having to dig on forums to find the truth of the matter. Many people have posted a similar experience, so I think it would go a long way to help new people if things like this were updated in the FAQ.
Props to Amelinda for taking the on the burden of helping people deal with this. Though, a TL NPC, while not ideal, would be good in the interim as well.

putting this in an FAQ would be like posting any random bug in the faq. So, like, not really. Under the idea of why this bug and not that one that is also detrimental to those who don't know about it. and you don't post them all because the faw would be littered with ever changing Qs with As all saying kgimmieamin

Oh trust me. A fix is coming :) They are working on it. I am only offering to help for now because (A) it's my job to help players and (b) the boats are inexplicably breaking. as soon as it's fixed you guys can wait for the boat again :)

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to pre-position the TL NPC's so that they can easily be deployed if needed. They would not be visible / active until some variable is set on the server for example. This way, if it's determined that the boats between point A and B are broken, a quick value change will enable these NPC's (on the boat interval spawn timer) to facilitate player transportation while the issue is being reviewed and addressed. As some have noted, it sucks to sit there for so long without a boat showing up for new players and for experienced players, all assuming the boat is just taking a long time.

If you think about it, fixing the boats is a comprehensive thing. The physics of waves and fluid dynamics has got to be baffling. And ships... How do you keep them floating without having someone with a bucket to unload the water from the leaking hull? How does the captain navigate without a map or gps unit? How are you going to keep the ship mates fed? How will they code the captain well enough so that he can evade a storm and still reach his destination? The more you think about it, the more you realize it's not easy.
Sharks really aren't much different from us. I keep a close eye on them. I can see patterns in their movements and I swear that they have families just like we do. They move their mouths and talk too I just can't hear the words. If you come down here for a moment and stop the rushing you might see it too. Humbling how sharks can tell us so much about ourselves. I'm still learning to this day about myself because of them. Heck, they might be able to help us fix the boats somehow if understood them.

I'm ok I found an island so I have stopped making illuminati symbols on the ocean bottom with my corpses. It was a real riot for a while though. I will continue my shark expeditions from the island here. I am writing a book about how to solve the boat problem and I think the sharks offer valuable insight. I will share more information later after I have compiled my research. Thanks for caring.

Is there way to make some npc that you can hail and then ask him to teleport you and just have the whole process automated until they fix the boats instead of having a secret petition portal service that only players who have read this post on the forum would know about? :P
