Be interesting to see how this server turns out. Traditionally as soon as a server hits Luclin the population screams for Planes of Power; Luclin itself is usually seen as little more than a temporary pause on the way to Planes. Hopefully for its sake the admins are determined to stick to their plan. I'm no longer inclined to get in on an emulator server when it's brand new--P99 and its myriad early glitches was enough of that for one lifetime--but I might check this out in a couple years if it matures and builds a stable community. For all its faults I've also seen enough good in the Luclin expansion that it might be worth dabbling a little bit, unlike Planes of Power which I despise every aspect of.

Barf yeah seeing luclin models just instantly reminds me of those five billion later-era expansions that I've never played, but I will randomly see videos of or screenshots of.

Out of all the eq expansions luclin was probably the one I was looking forward to the most at the time. I just remember hearing about the new graphics, horses, aas, and market place and I thought it couldn't be any better of an expansion.

My brother and I shared a pc to play at the time and I remember we loaded up all the new models, and it took over an hr to load into the game. Then when finally in, we could barely move because of all the lag. Eventually we just used one new character model for the char we were playing. About 2 or 3 months in though I realized I liked the old animations better so I just stopped using the new models all together.

In hindsight I think luclin had some good features but really did signal the beginning of the end of eq imho.

The database for the Ever Luclin server was built from an old takp dump back in 2014'ish. It has had everything past luclin expansion wiped from it. (not just disabled, but deleted totally). All zones, items, etc, gone completely, so it is definately locked permanently at Luclin and will never see PoP. But as it states on the forums, it is not implied to be 100 percent era accurate.

Horses were a huge part of ultima online, and everquest definitely took certain development nods from UO being it's predecessor. Even stuff like the bazaar was pretty similar to UO's vendor system, which allowed you to sell things afk for set prices and collect the money later without any player interaction. And then the EQ franchise didn't even get around to player housing until EQ2, and it was that lame instanced dollhouse version that sucks.

Yeah that's true. The stars aligned in all kinds of ways for original launch. People like to credit "the vision" but I think it's more that Brad made a really cool game kinda by accident.

I *do* love the original UO housing system, but it's also a totally different game in fundamental ways. Wouldn't work in EQ at all. I did play it before EQ, I think people just compare them cause they came first as far as mainstream successful mmo's. It's funny I remember when EQ launched, it was like the 4th day and I made a barb, and I just assumed that EQ was going to have player housing like UO's was, so I was running around the tundra in Everfrost looking for good places to put a house lol.

Looks like the info on the Ever Luclin forums is filling out more each day. I will be on there tomorrow (thursday) when it launches. I was a big fan of Luclin era, so it will be worth it to me. I signed up on the forums so I could view the patch file section and got a pleasant surprise. ;)

I always wonder what it would be like to have a server that was like *only* Luclin, or any other expansion for that matter.

Like a server that is Kunark-only. So you either start in OT or FV depending on race\class, and you just progress through Kunark content up to lvl 60. But there is no Antonica\Faydwer\Odus, and there's no Velious. It would be like if Kunark was the original base game. Would be interesting to see how the meta game plays out in that scenario.

You can train mobs to guards once below 50% for an easy exp assist.

You can hold stacked fire beetles in your primary and offhand and they look like dual wield GBS.

That was my 10 minutes of fun.

TAKP would be 1000x better if it used Titanium and not what EQMac was using. I realize its the true client to the era but it fucking sucks. I dont know of any other alternatives that stop at Luclin or PoP, PEQ is decent and Lazarus seems like its rolling but they both go well past in expansions than what most people care to play. You lose interest after PoP/LDoN with LoY being a huge meeeh.

LoY is amazing for leveling characters through 30s to 50s. It felt almost like classic again... well apart from the bards swarming Dulaks!

I get a very jerky frame rate on TAKP, it makes playing uncomfortable. I’m sure it is a solvable problem, but I’ve not worked it out yet.

I've never noticed stamina doing anything on TAKP.

but yeah, anyway, weapon weight/delay should be a factor and its the reason why stamina regen spells are in the game, such as Zing and Acumen.
