Redraw all the textures by hand at high res (no algorithm upscaling!) and increase the number of polys on the old models and in the zone architectures, but leave everything else unmolested.

I just want classic art style + higher resolutions\fidelity. Maybe an updated lighting system. Some of those fan remakes are really cool looking, but I almost can't recognize which zones they are supposed to be because the art style is so much different.

Also random question: Why is it that whenever I watch VR captured footage of FPS games on youtube, it *always* looks like the person playing is tilting their head to the left? The horizon line is always slanted up to the left, it drives me nuts!

Also - I clicked on it again on a PC and saw that the art was just nathan napalm's intro and only half a second long. I wasn't kidding I saw that and thot "fuck this" I thought it was some kinda joke.

I do hate Amazon. Like most here I'm too jaded to get excited about any new MMO's and will just kinda look at em when they come up and see if they're good. Hard to get emotionally involved.

A direct ripoff of the Zelda Breath of the Wild design might work good for EQ; cell-shaded characters, monsters, weapons, but the world itself is not cell shaded, so it doesn't get overly-cartoony and it also creates a really nice visual dynamic within the eye, because the things you naturally want to focus on (moving characters) look fundamentally distinct from the background\environment.

My dream is for the team that remastered Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Diablo 2 Resurrected to do the same thing to Everquest. Basically keep the base game in the background and overhaul the graphics, but in a tasteful way as to not screw up the original art style.

I truly think that team could do it and it'd be phenomenal. Too bad I don't own daybreak and have a few million dollars haha or I'd make it happen!!

i've had a hankering for a well-done everquest custom server. just throw all of the rules out the window and build something on the eq emu engine

i found this video of some emu where they made a gauntlet event out of the highway in trakanon's teeth, where they had to fight and dodge slimes coming down the pipe

why not do a server where you can just access every spell. and everyone can wear every gear too

but maybe skills take 10x longer to level and once you mem a spell you're stuck with it for like 4 hours.. or something

oh plus racial pvp, but race stats are redistributed so everyone gets an amount of starting stats that sums up to that of an ogre

I've thought about that before too, and it's a cool idea. Kind of like EQ version of ultima online. I think for EQ it might not pan out though because everyone is just going to eventually gravitate to the same builds: Tank build, cleric build, CC build. There's really no need for anything else. The various class\race restrictions in EQ are what force players to work together.

Plus don't different classes interact with stats differently? Like each point of AGI grants more AC to a rogue than to a wizard? Or is that not a thing?

I agree, that alone is enough to know it has near zero chance of appealing. One less thing to pay attention to, I suppose.

It's almost funny, Blake. During the '90's most folks I knew were frustrated by the limited tech of the PCs of the time and we looked forward to what a decade or two of advancement could permit. So many games were unable to do all the things they wanted to due to technical limitations, EQ included. Turned out we were in the golden age at the time and didn't know it because development decided to take a left turn somewhere around 2005ish. Now they can do what they used to want to do, but don't want to do it anymore. If only we could give today's tech to PC game and level designers from circa 1995.
