What company would you recommend for the transportation of things?

Uhaul - pick up some Mexicans from the corner of your local Home Depot and they will load and unload all day for whatever you are willing to pay them

This is definitely the smart/budget option (with the only cheaper option being to "hire" your friends instead with a 12-pack of beer).

I actually just drove a Uhaul home a couple days ago, after my car died while I was on vacation in So Cal, and I couldn't find a rental that would let me leave the area :( Luckily the tow driver suggested them, otherwise I wouldn't even have thought of it.

sounds like dystopia to me.

Why wouldn't you fly? Southwest has to be cheaper/faster than a Uhaul.

Maybe he had cargo, even though car wouldn't go.

largely depends on budget, the distance of the move itself, the level of fitness of you/your helpers, and how much big / heavy stuff you have

i worked for a moving company while i was going to college so id rather just take my buddies out for beers after and make sure my shit doesnt get damaged...but i have all the tools to do it (company truck, enclosed trailer, straps, etc)....look at it as a good opportunity to get an amazing workout for a day or two

if you have no idea what you're doing and have the money...just hire an insured local company...you're probably helping out college guys (or men with/without a HS diploma)...and please tip them well

if you're moving long distance and have a big house full of nice stuff you probably ought to go with one of the big boys...mayflower, allied, united, etc.

This. My car was full of crap that I couldn't take with me on a plane because I'd just come from camping. Also, 2 tickets from Bakersfield to San Jose cost >$1000, so the UHaul was a lot cheaper.

Yeah how far are you moving? Like I moved from VA to Boston once, into a 5th floor apartment with no elevator. That was the most hellish moving experience, and I wish I had just called ahead and arranged for movers in Boston to carry the big shit up.

On the other hand when I moved out I didn't really want the furniture anymore, so I got to toss it off the balcony into a dumpster which was super fun.

Friends don't ask friends to help them move. Unless you're young and poor.

got some real dystopia vibes coming from literally every persons experience with pretty much everything ITT.
