I'll do some of mine, off the top of my head, with explanations

As a kid:

When I was around 6 years old, I would fast forward to the final fight of my favorite movie, Sleeping Beauty. I probably watched it like 30 times. I used to fantasize that I was the knight, riding in to fight Maleficent. I thought Maleficent was the scariest cartoon villain I had ever seen up to this point, and I remember thinking how cool it was that a kids movie used the word "hell" lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5qbmkShzRA

I used to think Maleficent was the scariest cartoon villain, that is, until I also saw THIS movie at a very young age:

A helpless mother attempts to go to the lair of some hyper-intelligent rats (who learned to utilize electricity) to seek their help, and the first one she comes across attempts to passionlessly hunt her down and kill her without ever uttering a word or appearing to care at all for what she was saying. This scene really rattled me as a kid, kicking the pedestal out of under me and teaching me that this might be possible with some people or parts of the world. This whole movie was really good, one of my favs as a kid

https://youtu.be/SI_DOVqlJA4?t=68

The most inspiring scene from one of my favorite movies. The message of become who you were born to be beautifully portrayed here

https://youtu.be/Xw5bha0ZkRY?t=23

As an adult:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8ZisDHg6v0

This entire scene is pure poetry in cinema. First it has one of the best musical scores in a movie ever. It begins with a character who'd made some mistakes redeeming himself in the end by sacrificing himself to being burned to death instead of the main char. Then we have a chase where a young native american man tries to save his love. You can see the realization on his face after he suffers a grievous cut from the main villain where he realizes he is outmatched and doomed, but is determined to go down fighting. Then you have his love who just watched him die trying to save her, decide to kill herself rather than be raped by Magua and his men, tragically not realizing that help was only a few minutes behind. Then you have the father of the young man killed, amazingly portraying a deadpan calm look of "you are going to die for killing my son" in a way that you can tell there was rage burning beneath it. The only flaw of this scene is the unrealistic shooting accuracy of the main character, basically never missing while dual wielding guns that were historically notorious for missing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sq0W-L1KKPg

Definitely NOT what most people would pick as the most memorable scene from the movie Requiem For A Dream, but this scene has made lists as one of the best-acted monologues in movies. I just remember this scene because of the amazing acting, she used to make me very worried about growing old alone

Ok that's it but I'll probably suggest some more as others come to me. Feel free to post some of yours!

Tried there's just not a good concise video of the whole ending. And it needs all the context of the rest of the movie. But you should never see that movie because it's the saddest thing ever.

It's basically an allegory for how you can forget about all your childhood dreams because they were all illusions, and will never come true, and you have to accept it. But otherwise it's a great kid's movie.

amélie is my favorite film of all time. any scene holds a great deal of significance to me, but this one is special. she finds this box of random toys and things in her apartment. clearly they used to belong to a child several decades ago. she makes it her mission to bring the box of treasures back to their owner. it takes some doing, but she eventually tracks down the person they all used to belong to.

that starts the scene.

idk if anyone here cares about mbti or enneagram or w/e, but amélie is one famous representation of my personality type. you'll notice that she is too shy to even answer the guy when he asks a yes or no question, but before he noticed her she was watching him very intently. and she put so much work into tracking him down and coming up with a ridiculous payphone trap to get him to find the treasures.

i love her so, so much. she lives more in fantasy than reality, and she loves people even though she is sort of terrified of them. maybe it's dumb but i relate so hard with amélie and she will forever hold a place in my heart.

One time when I was working electronics retail I was sent to another store to help out because they thought that they had 2 call outs. But both employees showed. There was nothing for me to do. For 6 hours. So I sat at a desk and wrote “ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES [my name] A DULL BOY” like a hundred+ times. I remember it was like 5 sheets of paper. The manager eventually came by and was like WTF are you doing…

Lol

Which reminds me, too late to edit now but I shoulda put SPOILER WARNING in the title

This movie was seriously underrated. Good pick!

I absolutely loved the “Prayers before battle” scene too. Other than the Valhalla part (different belief system and all that), if I was anticipating some sort of fight that would very likely end in my death, this would be what I would like to say before I died:

Rob Roy vs Archibald Cunningham, the latter being one of my favorite all time acted villains and made me an instant Tim Roth fan. Who knew a foppish noble could be so vicious and scary, and pure evil as well….as anyone who’s seen this one would know. An unexpectedly well-choreographed sword fight

The dialog quality for this movie is on another level, each line is written like a play

I never was into futuristic sci fi like Star wars/trek, it was all about swords and sorcery for me

So, of course LOTR was one of my favorite movie series, and of it, one of my favorite scenes was of course the Balrog scene

However, another scene I came to appreciate a lot more after I learned some LOTR lore. That scene is the fight of Sam vs the spider Shelob:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfJirrzRQ60

Shelob is the descendent of a humongous (and scarier than even Sauron) demon spider from the abyss named Ungoliant. Ungoliant was described with a desire to devour life but also, light. The lore was that she belched forth darkness so thick that that no light could penetrate it

Interesting info on Ungoliant here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LB3uAiTBHA8

Shelob, her descendent had the power to radiate darkness that devoured light as well. Galadriel foresaw this when she gave frodo the light of Elendil, and said "May it be a light for you in dark places, when all other lights go out". The reality is, had Frodo and Sam been carrying a torch or any other light source, as Shelob approached the darkness coming off her would have put the torch out, making them be fighting completely blind. So Galadriel was not being metaphorical when she said those words, she was being literal. I found that interesting

And of course, this character from LOTR lore that I learned about, became one of my favorite fantasy characters in terms of being a complete badass:

Another movie that made the fantasy nerd in me was giddy was The Chronicles of Narnia, especially of course at the final battle scene. I actually like this scene more than any battle scene in LOTR, just because it is more whimsical

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1rsc9GzMW0

I also think Tilda Swinton is my favorite all time female villain in terms of acting. I was very impressed with Lena Headey in the Judge Dredd remake, and Galadriel (lol Cate Blanchett) did a good job on Thor Ragnarok too

I liked this scene mostly because I had no idea how big a name or talented the actor that played the fawn Tumnus, James McAvoy, was. I just remember thinking "man whoever is playing Tumnus is killing it"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U_l12twzxk

I really like this scene for when he said "because I believe in a free Narnia"

Of The Chronicles of Narnia series, the first is really good, the sequels not as much in my opinion

One of the last somewhat recent (I've only seen movies through the 80's, 90's and early 2000's) movies I saw was Nightcrawler. Really dark but interesting story about a socially awkward but intelligent highly motivated complete sociopath

The acting from Jake Gyllenhaal was so good throughout, so it's hard to pick individual scenes

Great scene/quote

I always thought it was strange seeing Gandalf an old man swinging a sword and appearing at times agile. It wasn’t until I had heard more LOTR lore that I learned Gandalf is a Maia, which is like an angelic being that often chooses to take the shape of an old man

So although he appears like an old human, he probably can hit with his sword harder and move faster than most young humans

i could not find the context for the last one. kaede marries the daimyo who merc'd her family, and she runs the clan into the ground. loyal kurogane there finally shoves his boss aside to kill his wife. that's her final admission of purpose. there's an earlier scene where she femdoms the daimyo into doing the wrong things at knifepoint in bed, its the actyual best scene :)

as for the first one those are allied soldiers in ww1 dress listening to a crying german girl forced to sing. u should figure it out :p

shes a war captive and they r all there to mock her but instead are moved. Last scene in a film about being mismanaged to your Kafkaesque totally useless death by the depraved elites Patriam still believes are competent 80 yrs after this film by a genius, which predates iran contra and mkultra. The elites make common soldiers take the fall and the story is about their legal defense. It's really good!!

It would be cool to see more female heroine scenes. The ones that come to mind are like Ripley from Aliens, Hit Girl from Kick Ass, or Linda Hamilton from Terminator 1/2, but those are too obvious…

I had a crush on Vasquez ever since my parents made me watch the movie Aliens around age 12 (where it gave me nightmares for a straight decade…)

Oh a bit of trivia regarding the actress who played Vasquez:

“ She had seen ALIEN, but she had no idea this was to be a sequel. It didn't occur to her because it had been several years ago.

She thought it was about people who were aliens as immigrants to the country of England and she wondered why they wanted Americans.

Since she didn't have an agent at the time, she answered the advert on her own”

So she had no idea she was playing a badass space marine until way later than she should have and still crushed it lol

thank you ennewi, I am very interested. 2:40 is hilarious to me because the character resembles Larry David so much in the source material, i wonder if that is what attracted them to it :D

whatever happened to baby jane, dark victory, patton, broadway danny rose(!!), midnight cowboy are the ones I learned! Oh joy it's a list of films to watch. :)

as for a favorite scene, how about a least favorite? on a visceral level, the pool scene in The Graduate.

Attractive people must think the world is a lot more polite than it really is

Of course that would change if people knew they were carrying bombs like in that scene

Never ever heard of these old movies

battle of algiers is absolutely ebin, it's in that mockumentary style and goes through the whole insurgency and counter insurgency including rationalization of torture etc. Characters resemble their IRL counterparts, whichever are historical anyway. Very good sound engineering on that one too for how old. Extremely touchy themes being so far pre-9/11, quite a bit of sympathy.

Couple of my favorites:

Raiders of the lost ark, harrison ford just casually shoots the sword guy

The usual suspects, keyser soze walking away at the end

The departed: police chief getting caught and thrown off the roof

Good picks!

I’m sure u heard the backstory on the Harrison Ford scene, but he had a horrible stomach virus at the time (and I’m assuming the screaming shits), so rather than do a lengthy sword fight scene, he just improv pulled out his gun and shot the guy. And that made it into the final cut lol

At least on the part of Billy Bob. He wasn't given direction on what to do or say and just had to wing it

A cracked out skank.

A lot of her choices I reconciled as due to ptsd from being molested as a kid. That last one of keeping Forrest’s kid away was the one decision that the movie didn’t provide a good ptsd explanation for. She seemed sober at the time she re-heard about Forrest, working at her job, seeming to be functioning well

So that decision I could not forgive. Forrest did, right away, which I guess is because he was so wholesome

Me: is he s-smart or is he like me?
Jenny:he’s very smart, he’s one of the smartest in his class

All scenes are super serious here. I watched Yes Man a few times, but every time I mention it, I remember the scene where he bounced on a purchased mattress. And it (https://www.talkaboutsleep.com/best-mattress-for-sex/#nitem_11)'s supposedly super stable. The main character puts down a glass of wine on it and it does not spill. From that moment on, I want to buy myself such a mattress. But I have a sofa.

Duncan goes from an unlikeable pompous asshole to one of the most noble characters in film history..... just like that.

Think about it, Russell Crowe in the QNTD is a retired gun fighter, who betrayed his old best gang-pal (Gene Hackman) that he used hang around and be the bad guy with, so he could go off to be a good guy.

And that's totally the end of 3:10, where RC goes from being the bad guy and learns to be a good guy, and gene hackman in the QATD totally would be like what Ben Foster in 3:10 to yuma would be like when he got older... provided he somehow survived that point blank shot in the end, sure why not :D

28 Weeks Later, while not a terrific movie on its own, does have one of the absolute scariest opening scenes of any horror movie I've ever seen

A family is holding up in a boarded up home, only surviving from the infected because the infected don't know they are inside. This all changes when a little boy comes to the door asking for help and they let him in, not realizing the infected had been lured by him to their hiding place

The infected break in, and right away the situation for the family inside is completely hopeless. The infected in the 28 Days Later movie series not only run at full speed, but they also turn someone in seconds, creating the most apocalyptically-fast spreading zombie phenomenon of any zombie movie (much faster than dawn of the dead or even world war Z)

The family begins to die and turn one by one. A husband and wife run to the upper floor, and as the infected begin to pour into the room, the husband abandons his wife and the boy they rescued to die to save himself

This is not only a terrifying intro, but also a very interesting portrayal of what some humans do when faced with certain death. How many of us could run back into the room to die beside our wife? In this scenario the wife was begging for help, but what would you do if your wife was yelling at you to leave her and save yourself? Would you still run in to die with her? How many of us when faced with such a terror would run and abandon our loved ones?

I can't find the entire scene whole, unfortunately it is only chopped up. I have the first and last parts here

why do rednecks love guns so much.

Its a good question, we are raised with them and don't fear them as much. It's not so much love as it is part of life. It often confuses me when people make comments about it being 'love' based. I am not sure where their mind is coming from. Some things naturally appeal to men and you will find men gathered around them. Rednecks are just guys in the crowd.

Edit: I can talk to you about guns or a Kyosho Inferno but this isn't the place for that. I am only responding because you are shitting up the thread with personal issues.

I remember getting dropped off at school in a truck that had a gun rack in the back window. Sad to see people shoot up schools at the mere sight of a water pistol these days. It's a frail and brittle thing to witness.

And to think the Columbine kids didn't even see that, it was just some pixels in their DOOM game that tossed them over the edge.

In honor of the hot thread, the snake dancing scene in Dusk till Dawn. I saw this movie with my dad, and we both loved the super-campy 80’s style gore and T&A

Also I had been the owner of a Red Tailed Columbian Boa snake before, and was a reptile/snake lover all my life

I remember being so confused seeing this movie in theaters. I commented to my friend stuff like “what the FUCK is going on?? Why does that samurai have a mini-gun??”

You just have to shut your brain off and it’s an ok movie lol

Do you really believe this?

BTW

LljkKoPs1Gg was rly fun for me even if it's nothing like the video games.

Terrible trailer, decently thoughtful scifi.

Got 2 watch it chilled with some beers tho.

Its a good question, we are raised with them and don't fear them as much. It's not so much love as it is part of life. It often confuses me when people make comments about it being 'love' based.

The farther left you go the more you can only do things that you passionately love.

It's called Greed. Seeing the world as a consumable. Everything is a toy for your enjoyment.

It's because satan has consumed their soul like a vampire and left them with a husk of what makes a human, a human.

Or it's a biproduct of being raised by boomers who gave them the "have everything they wanted" culture (Toys, cartoons, MTV, movies, video games).

Either way, they think meat comes from a grocery store and axes are for Instagram not firewood.

This is great I never seen this.

It reminds me a lot of Gene Roddenberry's Genesis II

This scene from Braveheart straight shook me as a kid. Teared up worse at this than Wallace dying at the end or any other part

Such a beautiful musical score, such a nice gesture from the girl, and it made me think about how I would feel if my dad died

Props to Michael Ironside acting in this lil scene!

definitely don't if you need the above explained!

Just saw this lil interracial cuckoldry progressive gem from one of the most fascist movies of 1997 ever lol.

Here's the complete scene... the part where the idiot who just got his arm melted off is dragged out of the way by his buddy is legit lols aswell (p.s. Lt. Rasczak has a robot arm already).

Everyone hated the 3rd act of this movie but I love it just as much as the rest of the movie. I saw this in theaters and this scene literally gave me a feeling of horror that almost no other movie ever has.

Sunshine (2007), same people who made Ex-Machina and 28 Days Later and a bunch of other stuff.

Yeah they really went event horizon with that third act.

The first two are like 2001

But I like both 2001 and event Horizon so I’m OK.

The score to that movie when Canadas getting burned job is the fucking shit dude it’s the!The score to that movie when Canada is getting burned job is so good!

The score to that movie

Definitely, that adagio in D just has the perfect emotional tone for the movie. You also hear it during the final few scenes.

Loved this movie when I was young. For one, I had a crush on the main actress, I forget her name

Two, she’s a badass assassin, and a good example of a strong female heroine done right. Modern Hollywood should look to movies like these for guidance

Three, every once in a while kids need reminders that the world is cruel and painful. The more you try to shield them from all bad things, the more unprepared they will be mentally when they do finally occur. However, her daughter here did have a broken bone…

Later in the movie her mom is dying and the kid spits the line “life is pain, you just get used to it!” back to her to motivate her. Super corny, but I still liked it

Forgot if I posted about Repomen: The Genetic Opera. The only musical I’ve ever seen in my life, and because of that, I like musicals

It’s dark, it’s got lots of tits and ass, gore, decent music. And who knew Paulie from Goodfellas could sing?

Why pyramid head is my first choice to cosplay:

Gets to use the buster sword from FF7

A legit excuse to not wear a shirt in public

Doesn’t speak at all so no dialog to fuck up

Only downside is the headpiece would be heavy
