Game isn't only about level 60.
So yeah, level 60 guys generally held hands. The PK guilds were weaker rabble guys.
The PVP 1-59 was tops.
It was basically a red server, as they go.

I remember reading TZTimes saying Rallos had a blacklist for people who pkd other players unprovoked

Ya those players were called PK's, a bad thing.
Sort of self regulated version of UO's PK system. It actually meant something to be branded as a PK. People wouldn't group with you, ETC.
It mattered more, since there was item loot. People that agreed to the social norm of not murdering eachother would group together, and exclude scum who would backstab their own EXP group to loot a piece of armor or whatever.
It was great.
Now it seems like the only people who play are PK's which is either goonsquad and WOW mentality creeping over, or that only the people who really liked to PVP came to an emulated version of it and everyone else stayed on non PVP live or whatever.
I like seeing the totally skewed perspectives of people that only cared about playing the game at level 60 describing rallos as not having PVP. PVP ended at level 60 my pal, when most guys were decked in no drop there wasn't a lot of incentive to PVP at that stage.

You're right, all the 4 pvp servers were pretty much the same, with little variation. In the high end scene it was hand holding and diplomacy.
On Vallon Zek where i played which was a "pvp server" i'd say only 5% of the actual population were real pvpers, the rest were bluebies that hand hold until there was drama over some loot and then pvp broke out between these top guilds.
To me this is the perfect game, a game filled with only pvp oriented players pvp become dull and boring, bluebies bring emotion to the game and we all know there's nothing like a scorn'd bluebie, they make the best drama. The only way we would ever experience everquest like it was in 1999 on a pvp server is if they opened a blue server, then at the peak of its popularity they enable pvp so the 100 of us that enjoy pvp could become 5% of that servers population, then you would have a pvp server true to what pvp servers were back in 1999.
oh yeah the loot dramas were great

yeah 90% of the server was anti pk and 90% of the pvpers were shitters.

Only on these retarded servers where the server is stuck in velious for eternity. On a normal server new content is launched and people move on.

When Green winds down, maybe a year or so since velious just dropped, P99 will be ready for a new server launch.
Hopefully it is a PVP server and they listen to feedback from about 8 years of complaining on these boards.
It will get a lot of bluebies just like red did the first time around. With fixes to things like PVP exp loss, and some custom fixes and a new way to deal with legacy shits and the level up race, we might make a really fun server for a year +

That would genuinely be fun, however the minority ruined it for the majority, that won't happen man.

I dunno, this box was pumping PVP in 2014-2015 before Velious dropped - KC and EJ each had what, 150-200 people each total?. Even the first few weeks of Velious were bangin' for PVP.
Nothing like slaying Yelinak on top of Ragnaros' dead body to soothe the soul.
EDIT: I misread this, I saw this as "no server ever truly lives."

What you said it still applicable. I didn't see the same energy as the servers that predate r99, namely on live and vztz. That could just be time taking its course or me not playing enough to know.
That's cool you got too see some large scale pvp. Those are some of my fav and worst memories. The bad ones are sometimes more romantic than the good.

Its the different mentality that EMU pop has versus live pop. It will never be 1999 again, this is the "meta" which is never as good as the alpha.
But it can still be a lot of fun and red99 2.0 can be better than 1.0 and I agree, the server was bumping robustly right up till velious when the server ended almost immediately, despite tons of enormous setbacks and full guild bans and all kinds of ridiculousness.
Red 2.0 can be extra good and skip some of that shits.

Or Rogean is practical and notices there isn't a market for everquest pvp servers. It starts good the first week and then the crazy people are left to be dealt with. Probably better to leave it as is.

R99 was great when there were 200-300 folks online. GvG battles are better than dragons any day of the week. There is nothing like fighting against a living, breathing human being. Racing, training, and neck-bearding isn’t competition.

There was adequate population on red 1.0 for at least two years, even with tons major fuck ups across the board.
2.0 can be good for at least that long.
No one is asking for more. Just a new horse to ride on till it dies.
Green release was a huge success and as the population slows down there as people are tired of what is becoming a dead server instead of a progression server (as progress stopped) they will be ready for red 2.0 and the blue and green pop can eventually merge as the blue 3.0 server gets launched later down the line.
Looking forward to the good times gang.

LOL id put my hand on the fire Tune never played live prior to Luclin or he was too busy PVEing at the top to wander anywhere else. I never made it to top, stopped right when luclin launched, so i cant testify to what happened on the raiding scene. But the reason why i never made it to the top is because i had so much fun on the way up with pvp.
It was everywhere. EC, Ro, Thurgadin, highpass, blackburrow, SK, Unrest, Gfay, just everywhere i went, everyday, you had pvp going on. Especially Gfay, where i had a 12 wiz parked just to get high and pvp for hours on end. You had plenty of PK guilds, off the top of my head: Flowers of happiness, Artful death, Darkenbane, black claws, House of Haeli or some shit like that. You didnt even have to go PK because youd constantly get attacked and could just note down the guilds and engage those.

When they removed xp loss in pvp during Kunark and we had that huge fight in emerald jungle, this is what the server should have been. We had a short window into what could have been. Devs/Sirken quickly stepped in to make sure the fun wouldnt last. Sirken with that fucking fisher price jousting shit, thx for trying but that isnt pvp.

I went looking for an old website i found a couple of years ago, with the list of RZ guilds with roster numbers. Couldnt find it, but did run into some names i had forgot. I think youre full of shit Tune, no one who played RZ 00-01 would describe it as you did.
Edit: I did find it
More guilds that you ran across on the daily on Rallos at lower levels who would KoS you:
- Reign of Pain
- Malicious Intent
- Scary Pirates
- Lucid Vision
- Inimical
- Peaceful Harmony
- Bloodstained knights
- Gladiators of no remorse
- Mercs of Norrath
- Vae Victis Sinistus

This pretty much sums it up.
The irony is that we actually need these non-PVPing bluebie carebears to make a great PVP server! :(
PVP servers where everyone you come across is just another random PK are unfortunately no fun at all.

Everyone went way too hard trying to be the most toxic griefer and it all got a little old. When red 2.0 comes around I really hope someone tries something different. Variety is the spice of life!

A server where pvp is enabled, but the players decide that talking and understanding each other is much more important then killing each other. I've always dreamed of this server as well.....

Not even that, necessarily.
What if one of the top guilds RPed as the good guys, and worked hard to help out the lower level players? Ported people around for free? Made legitimate alliances with some of the smaller guilds, and helped to build them up.

If there's one thing we learned from Red99 is that the "elite" "pvper" "hardcore"
really means everyones ego is so big they cannot even play the game cause the risk of losing status is too much for them, The Colgates.
