Login game troubles

I use to login normal everyday, nothing on my end has changed. Now for some odd reason because of Velious release, Login to server select screen, nothing shows up, logout, log back into server select screen, nothing shows up, logout, log back into server select screen, "Error 1017: Cannot login to the Everquest server. You may need to re-run the Update Patch. Repeatedly seeing this message indicates a loss of Connectivity to the Patch Server. This is usually temporary" click on, click server then play everquest. Sometimes boots back out to the login screen, sometimes connects to a blank character select screen. 3% of the time I get to connect to the correct character select screen, once this happens its a 50% chance a character i select will load into game. Ive redownloaded the patch, cleared ini.client(thought this fixed it), redownloaded the game an repatched V54. Same thing, my internet is fine. Only game this does this in.

Rule out a connectivity issue by trying from a hotspot or VPN. These errors can be caused by a routing issue on your ISPs side, and the only fix is to wait for your ISP to sort it out. In the meantime, use your hotspot/VPN. The client's traffic is minimal (designed for dial up) so it won't suck up your data plan.

I have been getting the same issue. It seems to only be happening during "primetime hours" so 7-9ish PM EST.

My friend who just started playing (and thus has a completely clean install) is also having the issue but not as bad as I am. We are on basically opposite ends of the country with different ISPs.

When I do actually make it in game during these times the game seems a bit laggy overall and zoning sometimes freezes. Otherwise it works fine.

Outside of those primetime hours I have 0 issues logging in, zoning, lag, etc.

Edit: I haven't tried using a hotspot yet, but will give it a shot next time and report back.

Hello,

Played a long time ago and wanted to relive old EQ a bit. I've installed per instructions; but I get a "DB Error - Invalid password" prompt. I've tried contacting mailer@eqemulator.net and have been unsuccessful getting a response. GMail is reporting an error for the address. Thought I would try here to see if this can be resolved.

Tried connecting to red and it worked immediately. Just blue and green that I cannot connect to.

I'm not saying it is your connection but the login server is sensitive to dropped or out of order packets. Wifi connections drop and resend packets frequently even when you have a good/moderate connection and it gets worse with distance. This will cause a blank server list, difficulty reaching character selection screen and getting from character select to in game. Once you get in game you may have higher latency but will normally be fine until you try to zone. I live on the east coast and my ping is around 65ms.

I am east coast. What I can tell you is no other game I play experiences this issue. League of legends, Eve online, Guild wars 2, Black desert online, The Isle, Swtor, Lotro, Anarchy Online, current games I login to everyday. I don't even disconnect in these games unless my isp is under maintenance. I use to play fine on green with the occasion classic Eq disconnect. Now I login to empty server lists an 1017 error. This has only happened since somewhere around the release of Velious, probably beforehand, I haven't been so active in the last few month. An its not like I use to login once in a blue moon, ive played blue briefly, an green since release with on an offs, but for long periods of time.

Ok, checking back.

Was having trouble connecting again (7:45 CST) tonight. I was able to get to the server select screen without issue this time and could see all servers, however it would give one of the error messages each time I tried to join the (blue) server through ~5 attempts.

Setup hotspot on phone and tried connecting through that and was unable to even get to the server select screen.

After reconnecting my ethernet I was able to login and join without issue. I did freeze while attempting to zone but was able to reconnect and zone fine.

While it certainly could be my connection, it is a bit strange to me that this has never happened to me before over the years but happens almost daily now. This plus that it happens with my friend at the same times, and only during this timeframe, makes me suspicious.

Like OP my internet connection and PC are well beyond what would be needed and have been connecting fine for years until now.

I have no idea why I can't log on. I'm not wifi, my speed is okay. I can log on the forums. However, I get a "DB Error - Invalid Password". I'm not sure what that means...I'm not using strange characters alpha and number only. So I'm hoping someone can give something I can try to get connected.

At Marniceq, the password your typing in is incorrect. Try another password.

Also, if you're using the numpad to enter numbers - sometimes the client doesn't pick up on numlock state. Try using the number keys on top of your keyboard.

Made a post yesterday but this is the exact issue I am running into as well .. tons of blank screens and failed attempts, isn’t my internet as I checked speedtest etc.

Also 90% of the time I get to the login screen none of my toons appear and it's just 8x Create a new character.

Question for everyone else dealing with this issue. Is this happening to you all the time or only during certain timeframes?

As I mentioned earlier this is only happening to me during primetime U.S. hours. I play often during the day and later at night and have never (so far) had issues during these times.

Every time I have tried it happens to me, I have only successfully logged in once in the past 3 days. Never had these issues the past 9 or so years I've been playing p99 on and off

Never in the past, now everyday. Can login only once in a blue moon. This only game that does it, my internet is great.

Seems like you guys are having an even worse time than me then. Weird that we are having such different experiences of the same issue.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, connecting to the login server would be done through eqemulator and not p99's servers. I checked on eqemu forums and found this post (http://www.eqemulator.org/forums/showthread.php?t=43262) that appears to be the same problem. Unfortunately it doesn't offer much help.

I'm not sure where they got this IP address from, but trying to ping that one times out for me also. When I ping www.login.equemulator.net I get 23.202.231.169 for the IP and it pings without issue, at this time. I will try again to see if this changes when I'm having trouble connecting.

All of this ignores the fact that when I'm having the issue and am able to get to the character select screen it's about a 50/50 chance that I get in and have some zoning issues when I do. These could be unrelated however. I'm not sure.

Try running a traceroute by opening up cmd prompt and typing tracert followed by the ip address of the destination. Example: tracert 23.202.231.169

This should show you the different locations that your connection is using. You may notice a problem with something along the path.

I recently installed P.99 per one of.. Several youtube videos, and I can see the Server List however the list is empty?

I did have the standard EQ installed with 25/25 expansions, and on the notifications it says that I have them installed..

I completely removed every trace of EQ and Daybreak games prior to attempting EQ.99 installation.

Anyone have ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

I can however login to other severs and live just fine, and can also login just fine if I use my hotspot on my phone but don’t really want to rely on my hotspot when playing. Internet speed tests all say very fast, can stream movies and do everything else just not p99. It’s been 4 days now I must be missing something

Since it works from your hotspot it's a routing issue with your ISP. These happen from time to time, and you can really only wait it out.

A fast connection does not mean that it is a good connection. Latency, jitter and packet loss are more important when it comes to p99. If I had a problem logging in I would run tests for those issues. Solar flares and cyber attacks are also causing widespread internet problems.

Hello, sorry to jump on this thread but I am having a similar issue. When I try to log in to a server the screen goes black, and then it takes me back to the account log in screen. I confirmed that I have the latest update to the software V57 of the P99 files. I have used this installed directory just fine in the past, but I haven't played in quite a while. So when logging in a second time I get the error 1017. I'm not sure what I should do next.

I have isolated the issue for me I think. It's my main desktop video card. I am using a Radeon RX 7900XT. In the bedroom on the secondary computer I use for specific projects, mostly 3d modeling and 3d printing slicing I have the only spare video card I have in the house right now which is a RX 6800. That computer works fine and runs EQ on Project 1999. Main computer doesn't. Hardware wise, they are both very similar 64GB of RAM, Ryzen 7 7700X, MSI B650 motherboard, except the main computer also has an AE-9 Sound Blaster X. The MSI board in the secondary computer is a Mag Mortar and not the Tomahawk in the office. So there is some similarity to the hardware. The major difference is the video card I think. When I attempt to log in, the screen goes blank, a larger window flashes onto screen and quickly disappears, and I am back at the login prompt. I have tried all of the different programs to help WinEQ 2, and I am still trying to get my email from EQEmulator to try that. Nothing has worked so far. Did AMD pull something from the drivers for the new card that eliminates support for the older game like EQ I wonder?
