I realize that we have talked in circles about red 2.0 concepts for basically no reason for the last 6 years or so, but it seems like there hasn't been a lot to discuss for a while and I just had a glimmer of hope in my heart and I thought it would be good if we hashed some stuff out for the 10th time.
We have talked about custom shit for anti toxic behavior a bunch.
I believe that there should be no legacy items on the next server. All items are released as intended and stay in the game as intended. Even if the manastone becomes a 1/10000 chance of dropping on every dragon or something, it would be fine.
Same goes with locket of escape, firepots, DE mask, and other game breakers.
I think the best solution is an in game platinum sucking casino system.
They could also revert the platinum and gem drops from hill giants and cyclopes to earlier versions so we can pharm and waste more platinum. The pharming aspect is important because those are great PVP zones.
Thoughts on non classic?
I know option 2 has a swear word in it but please consider what it takes to make the server actually the funnest possible. Things like no manastone camp, and tiered level maximums could mean more people can do more PVP for at least a year while the server max level ticks up slowly. There could be PVP champ stats for each new tier too memorialized on the home page hopefully.
Theres a lot of fun that could be done without extensive changes.

I would have voted option one but I don't like the wording. Custom would make things more enjoyable. As far as legacy items go they should either remove them or leave them in. Verant nefted/removed them because they were too OP so why even have them.

I had a few custom ideas I thought would be good for red 2.0 but that was when Rogaen was receptive to new ideas and I've forgotten since.

People are getting to old to play Everquest real talk. 2.0 with none of the shit mentioned above (tldr anyway) would of been great. Window is about 95% closed for most players I’d say. It prob would attract some folks at the beginning but would def end up with the guys who are playing now doing most if not all the heavy play time.

100% would need to stop at kunark with this small population. Maybe modify an area or two to have biweekly events like on vztz we had a difficult rile raid inside everfrost tunnels. One of the rewards was a range slot that gave like +1 Regen and some stats.
I think a major problem is how to deal with the current red population. Rogaen doesnt want to wipe the server and last thing we need is fragmented playerbase when red maxed at 50 boxers

The solution would be to leave red 1.0 as is, and the 20 people still playing there can also box on red 2.0
I kinda agree that a lot of playerbase is aged or lifed out. I am.

I honestly believe Teams pvp would get 400+ people on a EQ pvp server.
Hell,. staff can even say "No CSR" and it would be successful.
P99's closed source code is Platinum, it will bring all the hood rats to the scene.

Who is Baler? And Nirgon? Dude is old AF and been playing green for 2 years straight, claiming its "more red then red". Senile + bad at EQ.

It never had a chance here. Because no one gave it a chance before tstaff, epic rez, and TL boxes, ragebringers dropped.
Rallos purely pre epic. Only way to go. Stay forever in rubicite era.

They really dont need to fuck with it much to make it work. To me, Rallos was the pinnacle of EQ pvp. Sullon was absolutely brutal, i quit for rallos after getting broke in half by a 45 wiz in blackburrow and the same thing will happen with a team server unless some tweaks happen which i never saw suggested in the 10 years reading this forums. So... See Rallos as the blueprint and tweak it to make it work.
What worked on Rallos that wasnt present on red at launch:
- Gfay was a trading hub, low level pvp hub, a travel hub, a newb money maker hub, all rolled into one. On red Gfay was a ghost town because you never lost items so there wasnt a market for lower level pieces. No one pvpd because pvp = steamroll by zerg almost guaranteed to result in xp loss for non-zergers (that was fixed).
- I almost quit rallos as well, this is what made me stay on the server: On halloween 2001, there was a server-wide event in which event mobs appeared in zones like East Karana, Rathe Mountains which dropped no-drop items. This was crucial in making me feel like i had a fighting chance against twinks. Make these events, or similar events, permanent. Probably easier and better: Add some custom no-drop gear to the loot tables of regular mobs at level brackets: So one set for say, 10-20, one set for 20-30 etc... Make those a bit less powerful than regular magic items so that you only put the drop gear on when youre rolling with a crew, doing guild stuff and the regular items arent made redundant. This will make item loot viable and fun.

Added tweaks:
- Xp hotzones. For pvp and a little spice to concentrate the pop somewhere once in a while.
- Get rid of yellow text if its still in effect. It was a stupid idea then, its a stupid idea now. Why would you disclose the location of some poor newb trying to grind in peace? This only serves to drain the server of population.
Thats it, only these little tweaks to a Rallos-ruleset server and i can see it working.

EQ FFA just dies as fast as they are born, red 1.0 is eq ffa, hows it doing?
when eq original ended all the rathe servers and rolled them into rallos ruleset (FFA) how'd that decision go? would you say that decision was made on purpose by Smedley to forseeably end EQ pvp? pretty much.

well its hard to argue with your statement cause:
1- you have been on a religious zeal campaign to end this Gangsta guy. I been here a year now, and it's all you post about. He lives in your head rent free, you know that right?
2- its not a P99 game, so not alot of folk are gonna download a non sanctioned P99 server. It's hard enough to convince people its safe to download P99, tbh.

There was a population. They fucked it up by amongst other things handing the decision keys to people like Sirken and Derubael who made such shockingly bad decisions that it made people like me question if i should invest time at all on a server where it looks like either A) The decisions are made consciously to wreck the population, for some opaque reason. B) They are just clueless, with the same results.
With a good start theres no reason i couldnt see the server's 600 pop staying close to that. On day 1 i realised they were going with xp loss in pvp and i couldnt believe it. It was obvious it was going to kill the pop, and it did. Just when the server gets a breather, Sirken comes in during Kunark like lulz i know whats the problem, xp is too fast. Im gonna nerf it, population is going to dip but get better afterwards. Like wtf was that. Things like that slowly eroded people's faith that the server was ever going to pick up.
Eq pvp died because WoW (and other MMOs) came out and siphoned the population. It was a much better pvp game. EQ can still be fun, but yeah.

Thanks for voting at this point I think its conclusively concluded that the next red p99 server should be fully stock rallos zek item loot vanilla locked
Legacy items in place permanently possibly at custom drop rates after a given period of time.
No deleveling, and added level req's on non droppable planar type stuff so its only 46 + that have "elite" gear.
That way when I am casual player for the rest of my life I can hop on and do some PVP in greater faydark in my dreams.

I voted for custom because I couldn't vote for both. Probably custom would be better but by 10-15 percent on average, depending on the idea.

1. anti plug/zone dancing solution (zone dancing really is the worst part of everquest pvp)
2. nerf of insta cast farmable items (already on current red)
3. re-calibrate resists for classic eras (should have good data to do this properly without a lot of fiddling at this point)
4. new anti hax that doesn't infringe on your privacy by looking at your process window names (wtf, hello?)
5. an agreement among men to not default to the winning zerg (zerging is the second biggest issue with the design of everquest pvp)
6. probably a no rules server, gms cannot enforce the rules 100% of the time, welp then no rules is the way to go to avoid and issues like that

Number 6 is the biggest for me. The anti-hack system would take care of any 3rd party programs and the only other thing that should need reported and checked up on is 2 boxing. That is the only thing that a player should be reporting about another player.

To fix zone dancing there is a clickable item that can only cast on players who have zoned more than twice in the last 4 minutes and is an instagib.
Zone plugged (logs show they have zoned more than twice in last 4 minutes) toons can't log in for 2 hours.
