Honestly, I thought p1999 was the highest form of ape, but a couple of my colleagues are doing the whole old school runescape thing, and proven me to be a regular normy in the light of their tendiencies.

though I highly recommend going f2p first and completing all the quests

and yes, membership is worth it

my main has max skill stats and I have a few pures I'm working on

Definitely recommend this game

Though the game has a history of botting, gold farming, luring, and RMT...

It's still very fun!

Even if you don't want to spend 10 bucks a month (if your an adult and can't afford to spend 10 bucks a month, then your actually poor or trolling), you can buy a bond of the market with in game gold

also staying away from the duel arena, you'll know if you search it up

I still think osrs has much more content than many MMOs in the market currently

Runescape is fundamentally an Ultima Online derivative, with UO's nastier elements mitigated. As is typical for that type of game there is a lot of botting and scamming. The former is easily ignored due to the game's structure. The latter is easily avoided if you aren't a gullible ten year old. Runescape achieved its considerable success mostly by positioning itself as a cheaper alternative to World of Warcraft: probably the majority of players were kids or teenagers who couldn't get their parents to pay for a WoW subscription but who could play free and get mom to pony up for a membership once in awhile.

Runescape's free to play mode is a fully functional game in its own right. Far more than a mere demo, a player could play that for months or longer if he wished. Players are not limited to a single server like they are in the EQ/WoW-style MMORPGs. You can change servers however often you like. Like Everquest, Runescape is a case of a game where there's good to be found if you can tolerate the bad, but like EQ it's showing its age so "tolerating the bad" is definitely part of the experience.

it's fun to play on linux virtual desktops and automate multiple X sessions, if you like bash scripting. idk if there's a better way to bot it but i had some fun. otherwise game sux

Could never get INTO runescape. I always had ultima online and everquest. Runescape felt like the lesser game in comparison. Kids played RS, mature people played UO and EQ. That's how it always felt.

Runescape was what the poor kids played; their pc's couldn't handle real games or they didn't own one at all. stuck in browser, most played only on school pc's.

Returns? OSRS has been around for a quite a while. It’s free to play but the free version is shit. You can save up your in game money to buy a bond on the in game auction with in game currency that will give you paid status for a couple weeks.

It’s even available on your phone, which is not very easy to play on.

For anyone curious about it, it’s an ok game, but it’s 100x more of a grind than Everquest. The gameplay is atrocious and some of the quests are just stupid, or insanely difficult and frustrating (monkey madness...)
After a while when you’ve done all the quests you can for your skill levels, it devolves into a grind fest of maximizing xp/hour. If you want a mindless grind game, you’ll love it.

I played pretty much 99% on my phone and rarely on PC, and even got my fire cape while playing on my phone (fucking difficult as hell). After that I got bored with it and made autohotkey scripts to bot things like fletching to max that out at 99. And then other scripts to make money with other trade skills to pay for my subscription with in game currency, then I wondered why I was even playing anymore. It basically became a second job doing repetitive shit to make money so I could pay to do more of the same repetitive shit.

Pretty much everyone plays on the hack client called Runelite, instead of the standard one, which adds many quality of life improvements and is basically “cheating” but the developers dare not outright ban it because so many people would quit.

Despite that, leveling slayer was the most fun I had, but even that was just another grind, but at least somewhat more varied.

When I played, it was full of Venezuelan bots that dramatically altered the economy. And it was full of scam bots, mainly money doublers.

It’s an addictive game, not a good game.
