View Full Version : SK 1H or 2H?
I know SK should level both Blunt and Slashing, what I'm not sure is, should I train 1H or 2H?
I would guess 1H, because of using shield for bashing (or slamming or whatever that skill is), right?
Train everything you can. The velious era gives knights a lot of knight only weapons that are 1 handers with ratios to make up for lack of dual wield but knights still aren't damage classes so just use what you got that's good

Trolls/ogres can bash with 2h
All Races can bash with epic.
Prioritize 2h as it’s superior dps, but have a cheap 1h swap like a noc blade or ebon mace if bash is truly needed and you’re not an ogre/troll. Sword of pain also good from velks if you’re feeling adventurous and want to run your sk down there and try for a Rot.
Good luck
Cen and Crede, thank you both! I should of mention, it is Ogre SK.
OK will level all 4 combos but prioritize 2H. I guess I will be busy ;-)
Remember as an ogre, you can slam, which for Shadowknights and Warriors is great because it uses your bash skill, raises your bash skill, and is usable with any equipment configuration. It simply replaces and upgrades bash.

Level all of the skills you can, even piercing.
Once you’re in your low to mid 50’s 2h anything will really start to pull away from 1h dps.

As a 52 SK here, I've solo hunted and used 1hs/shield for most levels now. I just picked up a Zealot's Incarnadine to skill up and test vs my Noct blade. So, is it game mechanics that make 2hs better dps into 50's? I have haste belt, so it seems like the ratio should work out well.

I tend to use a reaver with a sword of pain as sidearm when magic attacks or shield is desired.

Arguably as a knight you should level 2 skills. Unlike a warrior you don’t have to cross train as aggressively. There will be times you prefer to use an Atram shield or need to bash.
I’d prob go 2hs and 1hb for the ebon mace. If you prefer 1hs for the Noc blade/Sword of Pain that is good as well. I levelled my 1h skill while grouping and used 2h exclusively while solo.
While Sk’s have a slightly lower piecing cap it’s another solid path. Shard of Night, Dark Spear of Venom, Carved Dragonbone, Exquisite Lance, Narandi. Could be a 1 skill SK and do just fine.
I got my Rocksmasher on the paladin and had 40 2hb skill. Plunking with a shovel got me to max skill in like 6 hrs. It wasn’t fun but better than carrying one more dumb weap just in case I looted one.

I believe shield AC calculates 100% post AC soft cap (which is surprisingly low). Using a shield can make a big difference in damage mitigation when tanking. Your DPS won’t matter much for keeping aggro as you should spam your spells for this.
If soloing, duoing, DPSing, etc. it’s situational. Luckily theres plenty of time to mix it up and try things out. With your Ogre strength you should have no problem carrying a variety of weapons.

With the new 2H upgrades on Blue, I would say do 1H until level 30, when your damage cap goes up to 60, then swap to 2h. Easiest path would be Ebon Mace to Reaver. Keep the 1H and a shield for when you are grouping. More tankability will be great in groups that already have good dps.
Thank you everyone for all the ideas, Items mentioned, I'm writing everything down and will follow your tips. I will get me Ebon Mace soon.

Speaking of servers, I'm on Red, everything you wrote is the same for red I would assume?

I do not know much abouy red, sadly. Red has Velious, so the items will be there. But things like Reavers are probably rarer due to raid content going untouched for a while, at least so I have heard. I assume Red has the same patches as Blue, but I don't know that for sure.

Ebon Mace at low levels, then bag it for a 2hander, those 32/36 lances are pretty cheap if you can't afford a Reaver

At what average prices are selling for? Would you link one of them sere, so I know what to look for it? I found this one, but I think you didn't meant this one, since you said "pretty cheap" :-) (but it is 32/36 Lance though)

I'm an amateur but its 1 hander for low levels and 2 hander after 20-30.
Maybe shield if ur tanking or raiding at high levels.
Or shield for pvp.
But especially one hander at least 1-20.
Almost pointless to have two hander under 20.

Well I mean two hander for jousting.
But maybe shield for being jumped, like crested mistmoore shield for that extra resist boost and bash. If you can't afford 100k gear.

As my fellow Knights here mention grouping dps doesn't matter while tanking, I ask, On Green Server, during Kunark era now, would a weapon such as the OG SSoY be a viable option while tanking just for the aggro proc? Even in low 50 or mid 50's?

Probably not. It’s good aggro when it procs but isn’t when it doesn’t. With a good spell cycle a SK with a MOSS can generate all the hate in the world. Or use a 2h like a Rod of Lamentation or Throneblade of the Ykesha if you want an aggro proc weapon.

Honestly, once you get disease cloud, you can hold aggro with auto attack turned off.
As you level, you’ll get clinging darkness and shadow vortex. With those 3 spells you won’t ever have to worry about aggro. Keep weapon skills trained up, and use whatever weapon you can afford. I think the progression I went with on blue was:
MoSS<Noct blade<Velium 2h (best quality one you can afford) < Greenmist < Epic.
You won’t see velium weapons or greenmist on green for a while. Ebon mace is a fine option too.

Agreed, SSoY wouldn't be that great. I have a Frostwrath and an Ancient Fire Etched Flamberge on my SK. The procs do help with agro, but most of the time Disease Cloud and the Shroud spells are all you need. If you are battling for agro with someone who is generating a lot of hate, the proc is only sometimes going to tip the scale in your favor, and even then it isn't for long unless you get lucky and chain proc.

Early procs when someone is trying to land slow on something resistant is great
Otherwise, what he said above me
The difference between 1h and 2h or any damage you do is negligible compared to what the charmed pet you're tanking for is doing in groups. Min max dictates you focus on being as tanky as possible imo.

IMHO, when it comes to knight aggro the biggest mistake made is what spell is cast and when.
Disease Cloud has a short cooldown. First spell cast on a mob is aggro locked as well. So ideally I'd prob pull with clinging or cancel magic and toss out a DC right away (unless splitting), if you have one clicking a global cooldown item like a goblin skull earring between spells. By the time its in camp DC will probably off cooldown (or will soon). Use Shadow Vortex as needed but keep an eye on that mana. Having a near full tank for emergency taps might come in handy if things go awry.
It may seem arbitrary but changing up when you cast that first disease cloud can put you hundreds of points of hate ahead of the group. If duoing with a shaman waiting to toss that 2nd spell (DC) after the slow is the quickest way to peel. If you pull with DC in this situation and the sham slows you will either have to wait for the DC to come off cooldown or use shadow vortex and waste that mana.

The aggro lock is just if the first spell is the initial aggroing attack. If you body pull or fire an arrow that satisfies initial aggro and your first spell will do it's full aggro

I like to do siphon strength cos it's damageless, might affect DPS, and fast casting so easy enough to follow up with a DC, shadow tap or snare ... or FD if something goes immediately wrong.
If duoing with a shaman, and adds aren't risky, just let them pull with mal or slow (minimising their aggro thanks to the cap) and easily take aggro with your preferred aggro spell (the cap is done on a by mob, not by player basis - if it already aggroed someone else you are Gucci).

Yea for sure. I just see a ton of SK’s pull with DC so wanted to throw that out.
