Did I screw up buying this thing? I've read post that the text will be tiny...

yes if you use 2560 x 1440 it will be tiny

but you can do some tricks to aviod this ... lower desktop resolution e.g.

1366x768 or better for this monitor perhaps 1280x720 (less blurry because exact the half of the native resolution)

check out this forum and the wiki .. there are some good guides for this

I play at 1440p with no issues, Alli. Just make your chat font a 5 or so and it should be fine.

You can also use DPI scaling to increase the size of the interface. Many people play on large 4k displays without issues.

I though 5 was the max?

You know i tried running things at 2k. I tweaked with the client to increase the size of the icons etc to compensate for the decreased size of important things.

Some reason though, the game would crash randomly. ended up giving up on it. Didn't seem to really make much difference anyways.

The listed options are 1-5, but doing 6 makes it bigger than 5. I guess they never got around to updating it for 1-6.

I play on a 2k monitor, I'd guess that most PC gamers are on 1440p at this point, or at least close to half.

1440p monitors work fine for EQ. I don't take many screen shots, so I don't have many examples I can show you, but here's 1 for reference:

This is a 2k UI made for 1440p, if you just use the default EverQuest UI that will work fine too, the icons and everything else is still plenty large enough to see. Just do the tip that others mentioned and use /chatfontsize 5 or 6.
