I made a few characters on green. My son made his on blue. And we just realized it when we decided to play together. (all characters are low level)
What is the difference ?..
Either can remake and go on....but will we struggle for groups on either? Struggle for gear?
Thanks in advance...

Blue has been around for longer and has the Velious expansion. They have more quality of life stuff enabled like custom UIs and pet windows. They have fewer players playing at any given time and it'll be harder to get groups at lower levels.
Green is newer and is still in the Kunark phase, trying to follow the original timeline. Velious will eventually be released for Green players as well. Green has more players generally and you will have an easier time finding groups at low levels on Green (although at this point, Green is also already top heavy, but there are people still making alts). I guess one possible benefit of playing on Blue is that since it's been around longer, they're all drowning in plat so you could probably bum stuff easier from the tunnels if that's something you wanted to do. I would still go Green though.

To add, on Blue you have better UI, especially for toons with pets.
On Blue prices for items are generally cheaper often MUCH cheaper (everyone is already twinked up)
On Blue are less player, especially at lower levels
On Blue you will easier get to some camp, since there is less competition
But Green is where most players are, on Blue you may feel lonely. Several players retired their Blue toon and they are now on Green (some even or red)
Note, as long as you two are playing on a different servers, you can play at the same time. If you want to play together on the same server, you need to ask for exemption.
Btw, Red is fun as well. Just about all camps are available, there are even less players. And if you two will play together, you really don't need other players, most of the time. But if you join a guild, you will get help when needed.
If you get killed by someone, you don't lose any XP or any items, just platina (carry gems to mitigate this). But if you two will be mostly together, there are less chances someone will attack both of you. Beside, there is not much PvP going on in lower levels. I have two toons in high 30's and I haven't been attacked yet. But XP grows MUCH faster than any other server. Especially if in a group. Actually too fast. Bellow 50 I'm not grouping, so i can slowly play and enjoy the game. Exception may be some hell levels.
Bottom line, you may check red as well. I have toons on all three servers but now I'm playing just Red. You want some item? Just go get it, no one will stand in your way. Unlike on green where every good cash camp is most of the time taken.

Snortles popping up here has me curious: Are there as many socially maladjusted, probably mentally ill people on blue as there are on green? Has anyone noticed a significant difference in this aspect? I've never really played on blue so can't compare.

Blue usually has about 75% of green population at any given time, it just feels like less since it’s more top heavy.

Dang dude you musta last played red99 in 2015 or something and been bind camped down 4 levels. I can solo to 50 without even typing /enter and would probably see pvp 5% of time or less. Meanwhile 100% of all mobs are up. By the time NTOV came out no one but the psychoest path was bothering with a 10th alt twink PK there is no one to hunt at all.
I wish Pivo was full of shit, I really do. But red is the most normal and carebear server offered by project 1999 right now because the extreme psychopath skuzzlord RMT blooming onion permapharmers EQ-for-a-living guys are not spending time there at all. The 60 people still playing really are having a good time. The 300+ people not playing are waiting for a new server with eager anticipation but current red99 offers good questing for anyone who likes everquest.
If you're a legit new player going through the grind on red99 eventually someone is going to dump a huge pile of gear on you. There is a major backlog of gear that has no economy to sell. If it isn't all sold to vendors which it probably mostly is, there are guild and personal banks just bursting at the seams at this point. No exaggeration. Its basically just a matter of time before some guild tries to be in your good graces because they need some more warm bodys. PVP can still happen level 1-56 but when it does its like a quaint homage to better times of olde.

So how are druids on red? Porting for self-sufficiency, charming or kiting for soloing, tracking, resist buffs and blind for PVP when it DOES happen...decent package?

The PvP all happens at 50+, really high 50's. If you want to have camps to yourself, solo, and level up blindingly fast on a P99 server, red is where its at.
If you want to join pickup groups as you level at all phases of the game, green is where its at.
If you want to raid....well buyer beware its a bit tense on P99. But at the moment blue is probably best due to cleric epics and just a larger amount of raid content. This time next year it will be more of a toss up between blue/green raiding.

If your primary goal is to duo with your son, go Blue. Green is only good if you want to get items that no longer drop on Blue.
Blue will have cheap items, and there are certainly still plenty of lower level players to group with. It will be less than Green, but it is not anything to worry about. You also have more quests and zones to enjoy as you progress.

As someone who never put a lot of time in on blue but has put insane amounts in on Green I wish I was on blue. Green is fun for having groups at all levels and a relatively calm economy outside some items it’s not good for much else. There are so many players clogging up every zone and camp it can be hard to do some stuff. If I could transfer the characters and plat I’ve built up on green to blue I would in a heartbeat and never look back.

Its honestly not THAT bad to start over you just have to set your mind to it, especially with all the gear on blue. If you aren't happy on green then letting sunk cost fallacy keep you stuck there doesn't help anything.

I gave Red an honest try not too long ago. Started an enchanter, got to level 9. What scared me off was some dude getting repeatedly killed (PvP deaths are announced server-wide). I even said something in OOC (also server-wide) along the lines of "maybe that dude has had enough?" and the response I got was "nah".
I just got to thinking I probably won't have a good time later on, with many folks on the server sweating magic resistance out of their pores and not caring about ganking a helpless enchanter (which is already not a PvP class to begin with).
On top of that, I have a dream to one day see raid content and I was essentially told that I would never get to see them on Red.
I'd be open to giving it a try again but those are the issues I currently have.

If you rolled a soloer like me, there is literally no benefit to Green and a dozen drawbacks, mostly quality of life stuff
It is even crowded enough that I find it actually messing up my sleep schedule. I’ll stay up later than I normally would because often the only way you can get a good exp spot is during late hours
But I also feel committed in Green, and part of me is hoping as awareness spreads more and more people get sick of the competition for spots and migrate to Blue

That's basically how I felt. It actually got to the point of feeling depressing, logging on and never knowing what you'll be able to do because every single effing thing is camped all the time.
Meanwhile, the other day on Blue, I killed my first Nybright sister in years. It felt really good. Blue is where I think my home is going to be, and if Green characters are going to be recycled into Blue one day that'll be something to look forward to (got a couple of the discontinued items there). But I'm just not a very competitive person and having to fight for everything on Green got to me after a while.

Yup I mainly solo as it fits my play style better. At this point I spend a good hour or two some days running around looking for a spot to level. I’ve seen the same people camp one camp for 12+ hrs a day for weeks.

I'd be open to giving it a try again but those are the issues I currently have.
In my limited time on red the times I've seen that happen it turns out that the person being killed is afk pet camping some spawn and people pass by and wax him repeatedly and he just comes back and sets up shop again.
There's a rule on red called loot and scoot or LNS, any non afk player can call this and be given his chance to loot his corpse and vacate the camp where he got defeated. So when you see that its likely not actually bind camping (I think that's actually against the rules?) but punishing an afk camper who some would say deserves it anyway.
But don't play on red, its dead. Unless you're bored with green/blue and looking for a different take on it, its interesting despite being a brick of a server.

Both servers have draw backs, I would personally recomend Green because it is newer and has a larger player base. Getting an Epic done on Green will be... not impossible? But very expensive and time-consuming. Green is the more 'competitive' server and Blue the more relaxed (at the moment at least)

Having played on both substantially I can attest the average player quality on Green is much poorer. This is true both in culture/attitude/maturity as well as knowledge and capabilities. Don’t get me wrong Green has tons of awesome people but it is where most new players go so there are more inexperienced people (which is fine, we were all there once). I think the biggest challenge is that green was very crowded at different points so people had to play very competitively just to get any pixels. This bred a culture that was less collaborative and selfless than blue, certainly more elf lawyers
Still love Green and it’s a lot of fun to play in a progression era. Itemization is in full swing during Kunark and there’s a lot of awesome content to come.

Both servers have a great community. Ive met nothing but nice/helpful people on both. As for red (pvp)...I love pvp but im no good at it. I still have fun at it anyway...but i prefer battlegrounds type of pvp. Solo...or one on one...im like a chick in the wild (a blind hobbled chick).
If anyone sees a paladin ( cant remember my sons characters name) and a Cleric (Mahlach ) or Druid (Wookin) running from a train...(or sees our bodies)..that will be us.

I played the original game on Lanys T'Vyl back in 2000-2004, and came back to try this out just 9 days ago. I came to Green because it was the newest and I figured it would someday get the Velious added anyway.
After 2 days struggling to set up the UI (which was no fun), I have played since a couple of hours per day as a new monk.
Contrary to what someone above said, I have found Green very friendly. Complete strangers buff you as they run by. One person gave me a few pieces of cured silk armour as they passed. Another gave me new weapon to upgrade the starter Club (which was taking me ages to kill things at level 5). And the whole feeling of the place seems positive.
Yes, it is getting harder at times to find things to kill in East Commons, but I need to do some research and move somewhere else, or join a few groups, or similar. And who knows, maybe it is not so pleasent later, but so far this is fine.
So from that brief experience, I can only suggest Green seems fine to me.

Wait until you get to South Karana in your 30's. Do not recommend. That is, unless you like to play from 2am-7am
The problem with Green is definitely not the community in regards to friendliness, it's the community in regards to CROWDING. What I've gotten the habit of doing is thinking of the best possible exp and pp locations for a given level range. Then thinking of the second best. Then the third best. Then going with none of those and actually going to check the 10th best to see if it's open. That is unless you plan to play from 2am-7am

Druid + Paladin will be rough. You can go to zones where there are animals to charm, though. Your son will have to swallow his pride and become more of a bodyguard for you...but if he's ok doing that the XP will fly by.
Good practice is in your high teens / low 20s doing crocs in Oasis. You basically keep a charm pet going, engage another mob, break charm when your pet gets low, etc. The Paladin will be there to assist when charms break and to help finish off low mobs.
PM me if you want some help getting started.

Whichever classes you settle on will be fine. Don’t shy away from adding a third companion to your adventures when convenient. Let the game come as it will, it’s definitely more fun as an adventure than grind to max level.
Benefit of the good/good combo is you should be welcome in the same cities and can explore and set up home bases from.

My Necro had PvP maybe a dozen times leveling to 56 and I think I actually died to PvP maybe twice?
Red is where its at. If you are pushing into my camp I can PvP you, if I travel across the world to a camp and its taken I can PvP you, if you talk in OOC too much I can PvP you. If you are in my guild always asking for ports and handouts and saying things like "OOOOOH I COULD REALLY USE THAT" when someone links ToV loot but you are like level 12, guess what? I can PvP you.

As a completely new player to Project 1999 I went Blue and don't regret it. Haven't really played since LDoN days. People have been super nice with gear and advice. I'm a very casual player and the camp issues I read about on Green coupled with the hybrid xp penalty (I wanted to play a bard again) made it an easy choice.
