View Full Version : Insta-Frozen Screen

So I had a bug tonight on Blue I haven't seen in almost 20 years of playing EQ and it's emulators. Three times in a row (so far...maybe more), my screen just instantly freezes and I can't move or do anything except move my mouse. I can only Alt-Ctl-Dlt and end process.

I restarted my computer (pretty nice, GTX 1660, i5 9400F 2.9GHZ), and just updated my graphics card drivers. Anyone ever see this before? I was just playing last night for hours with absolutely no problems. I've played 99 since at least 2015 so this is completely random. Any ideas?

Still happening, interestingly enough it appears it only happens when I head into Paineel. I've been hunting outside of Paineel in the newbie area, and in Tox, and in the Warrens, and the only time it happened was went I went into town...

Searching "freezing" instead of "frozen" helped...should've thought of that...

Will try Alt-Enter twice next time it happens, as well as tying the graphics to a non-Nvidia gpu. Currently just avoiding Paineel.

Same issue here but in Unrest. Had some weird sound bugs before it froze.
No problem playing any other char in open spaces. Did'nt log another char in Unrest, as I don't want another stuck one.
I updated some drivers, played with compatibility modes, alt-tabbed many times, nothing seems to work.
The only thing I can think about is a recent Windows update... is this related...

Mine freezes when I get a windows full screen alert, like ctrl+alt+del will freeze my game instantly, I can hear it in the BG (not sure if I can walk around never tried to be sure about that) but yeah need to force quit and restart.

Is it simmilar issue? I have an nvidia!

Might not be the case for you, but if you have a chat window "minimized" (made too small for text to show up), then any time text tries to appear in that window, the game will freeze.

Well I played in Unrest yesterday without any problem, and there wasn't any Nvidia update in beetween.

Uninstalled recent Windows updates, tried with winEQ2, still stuck inthere.

I've had that crash issue some time ago ; even if my "spam window" wasn't totally minimized, in despair I tried to copy/paste another UI_Character file and... it worked !

Might have been that, or something else, I don't know... anyway it worked, thanks for that clue ! Maybe you can try that, bloodkingg.
