Why should we push ourselves to the brink of annihilation by felling trees indiscriminately, polluting water-courses and the atmosphere by over-building? There is an instinct gone awry in us too, which makes us revel in bloodshed, for we’ll readily lose a thousand lives and kill another thousand to hold on to a piece of land! Why should the sublime in us, which makes us pray, love, trust and help, be juxtaposed with the sadistic quirk which thinks nothing of hating, hurting and destroying the most precious things on earth, namely, existence.

Science can explain many things, logic sorts out the rest, but the subtle inexplicable rage in the universe persists. It jostles a meteor out of its peaceful orbit into a crashing course. Just when everything appears to be running smoothly, a disturbing message, an untoward incident, a deception disrupts the tenor of life. There is no reason for it. It just happens! Mortals and nature, it seems, can never divest themselves of the tragic note which may, unexpectedly, churn up the peaceful surface of the lake and drag a pleasure boat and its occupants into the spinning abyss of a whirlpool.

But rage subsides. It flashes summer lightning on to the horizon to remind of detonations that were. A new day dawns over the debris of devastation. We go about picking up the flattened stakes of our existence and fixing them again, while a spent rage languishes and slowly build itself up again to unleash another bout of madness.

Go outside, sit down, clear your mind of judgment, prediction, reaction, and take in the life around you. Feel it. Smell it. See it. Hear it. Touch it.

Thus the subconscious will regain and reasert itself and regain balance with the thoughts of itself.

Consciousness, subconsciousness, awareness.

These are illusiory. They are a poor choice of words, within a limited vocabulary, undeveloped, un matured.

There is much progress to be had in expressing yourselves. Ourselves. My self. Nature is expressing it's self. Gaia. Your intestines. The living organisms inside. The cities. The thrumb of cars. Flow of money. It's endless and boundless in many ways, yet divided and distant, yet, we are more than simply a particle in a wave.

speaking of the salt trade. I was helping my daughter with her African Empires history assignment last weekend, and man did those guys in West Africa ride or die for the Salt mines south of Morocco.

Circa 1450, the Songhai Empire (the shortest lived Empire in West/South African History) essentially tried to advance from being taxers of the Gold and Salt Trade, to forcefully wresting control of the salt mines north of their empire, AND the gold mines south of their empire. It took all of 40 years for Morocco to enlist Portugal and Spain to send an armada to a small city-state at the mouth of the Niger, and heavily arm them with firearms, which they used to destroy the Songhai Empire absolutely, and sell their remnant people to Jews and Arabs in the slave trade.

I planted the last two white eggplant seeds from the small packet I bought last year, of which, none sprouted, last week. I'm hoping this time, grouping it with other Nightshades, and providing it partial shade stimulates a sprouting.

I also planted two Haas Avocado seeds, which I will pair with Leeks this year, which I will likely never get to reap the rewards of, if our plans to buy a house in the next year pan out.

I've seen giant potted citrus in European gardens, but maybe the Avocado will be ok for a year or two? Easier to protect them from freezes as well.

An avocado seed will likely not produce fruit as far as i know, they grow extremely slow and require lots of water to produce. Very inefficient crop when you have to buy the water. You need to buy a plant that has been grafted to ensure good production

I planted one that was like 3 foot tall and it made flowers and fruits. Everyone told me it wouldn't. I speculated there was another near enough.

It's possible.

Takes a few years for a seed to have a chance at producing a tree with fruits.

He's got two at least.

The other thing is I don't know about haas. I did a Florida-cali hybrid one. Big green fruits. Didn't taste as good.

Yeah the Aquate variety fruit quicker but they also spoil really quickly. I received a giant bag of them last year and froze them for Guac on the fly for a few months.

Should be possible. I'm in zone 9a. Says you can grow them in zone 4-11, but I highly doubt they would survive the hard-frost at the lower agricultural zone numbers. Drainage will likely be my biggest hurdle, as I did not excavate and add a ton of sand. It's not a hard clay soil though. Lots of almond and walnut trees in purely native soil around our place.

I planted one that was like 3 foot tall and it made flowers and fruits. Everyone told me it wouldn't. I speculated there was another near enough.

The other thing is I don't know about haas. I did a Florida-cali hybrid one. Big green fruits. Didn't taste as good.

Well, apparently one of the previous tenants attempted to plant a citrus tree near the front of the house, and then proceeded to prune it all the way back to a 2 ft stump in the years to follow. I told the owner to tell his yard maintenance crew their services are no longer necessary after they weed whacked my pumpkin patch last year, so hopefully that will start fruiting this summer, but I doubt it, since all of its branches are approx 1" diameter with gnarly barbs now.

Eh, I'm growing a fuckload of Leeks with them, and will cycle in Legumes for nitrogen-fixing in the second harvest this year, so not a total loss if they don't work for me. Will continue to utilize the 8' of dead space in the 3'x12' spot I tilled last week for them in any fashion so they're pretty much just occupying a combined floorspace of 18 square feet. Once they fill out, I will likely just grow peppers under their boughs, since peppers prefer partial shade out here. That central valley mid-day sun is a killer in the summer time.
