Real stories preferred. Lets remember the good times which can help us look forward to how cool red 2.0 is going to be regardless of how it rolls out or when.

Couldn't agree more on that one. Wurmslayer was the dope for such a long time. Not best in slot, but the dope nonetheless.

One happy memory comes to mind when I was at the ghoul assassin for like an entire day getting guises for guildies and hoping to win a roll for one myself but then I had to do real life and logged off for a while.

I logged back in and it was like the scene in the new star trek movie when they come out of warp and the whole star fleet is just decimated and all debris everywhere. The group was fully wiped, I think I might have got there just in time to see one last brave fighter killed. I was able to be a pro elite cleric and CC the adds, and then blow the smithereens out of the assassin. He had the guise which I looted before camping out all the adds. I came back in and rezzed the rest of the team and we got back to work. It was sweet.

I remember that, but it is not a fond recollection.

I remember fondly when the Holocaust guys really wanted to show that being a PVP oriented player with grizzled PVP experience and also PVP EMU experience would win the day against Nihilum and blue poopsock pixel skills.

They fought well before the ban in permafrost which was really the actual end of the server IMO turned into permanent whinefest after that. I don't know anything about those players or their history but I know there were probably some of the best EQ pvp players ever playing in this server at that time.

There were some cool dudes on both sides, and you could always find a twink PK logging into unrest every 15 or so minutes to see if there was someone to murder, which is how it should be.

I remember a fine time when lovely on beta gave me like 1k pp to sponsor me as a noob so he could PK me later and I followed him around for a while and watched him ice comet a few guys. I think he ported me into WC and there were dudes there and I got to watch some battle.

It was a long time ago, more distant than EQ live play (for me) was when beta came out for context.

-mucking around with Casey, Ames, and Imabeast.
-spamming /who every 5 seconds like it was my religious duty back in 2012 when the server actually had PvP.
-the original Holo/Nihilum war.
-seeing PoF for the first time in EQ via Red99 and eating the DT on Cazic as a rite of passage.
-many extremely strange and probably drug-induced random tells over the course of four months of grinding (see attached).

Haven't touched the server since they put in the EXP bonus. Killed the server for me (glad it helped others though).

Defending the swamp with Chewie and griefing with Ironlion. Favorite memory was rolling into unrest with lvl 60 shaman buffs on a paladin with a ghoulbane and some MR gear and destroying 15 Red Dawn peeps who were raiding the death beetles.

Trakanon raid with <Thunderdome>...

<Apex> (I think?) beat us to the dragon, but we were right on their tail. We engaged their superior raid force (about their 40 vs our 25).

We wiped them, and we were able to pick up the Dragon, tank it and kill it. We had like 4-5 people left alive once the dust was settled, and I was one of them.

Felt really good.

Returned many moons after their withdrawal from R99 to see <Thunderdome> on their way as a leveling guild. Spent many hours in SolB with them

Tracked, pulled, and tanked Faydedar on my Ranger to bring <Thunderdome> their first raid mob - ultimately leading to their rise against Apex

Speaking of Holocaust, during launch the boys were doing calfquest in the karanas, while my dark elf necro was running mostly solo on the 6minute bard diets and various high plat camps to farm my spells. Ended up at lake rathe and blasted this gnome necros asshole wide open. He FLIPPED...Was a friend of Chucks from live on the ole VZ days I guess, and was freaking out. Came back and had to whoop his ass again... Good times. I gotta find that rage tell screenshot somewhere, actually Holocaust got a ton of hate at launch, and i particularly got multiple messages of being a "griefer" for playing a DE Necro as if I had sold my soul or something. Look folks, DE Necro was the easiest way for me to level missing the XP train, and i deleted it at level 35 anyway, around the time DoTs got nerfed on non feared/moving targets.

Ironically, with og rallos pvp being what hooked me on mmos, most of my fun memories on red are pve ones, doing content i never did on live, like plane of air and fear, seb, castle mistmoore. The initial rush of finally having an eq red server back followed by the huge bummer that xp loss in pvp mechanic made it a completely different experience than rallos. Holocaust just having to park a cleric at guk entrance to cockblock and training anyone who tried to get in, coupled with the almost guaranteed outcome to eat xp loss if you did get past that, which made it impossible to motivate the peons outside to try to guerilla them out of there. Such a pity and missed opportunity.

The few big fights that we had once xp loss was lifted, i remember a huge one in emerald jungle i think, the fights over dragons when i was in red dawn, the fights around KC were the memorable moments i remember pvp-wise which sirken made sure were short-lived by nerfing xp and practically crippling the server's population irreparably.

The new version of vBulletin is a total piece of shit so hopefully P99 staff have this well protected so it doesn't get nuked during some ransomware hack or something.

Sorry with my party pooping comments but i dont see any indication staff has learned from their mistakes, i just cant get myself pumped for a new server. They probably gonna set in stone a ruleset without brainstorming anything first, id put my hand on the fire on it.

Why cant anyone make a modern version of a hardcore sandbox? :( Albion online is the closest, very fun at times but im not fond of "loot table" and like eve, fun/work ratio can be demoralizing.
