View Full Version : Why is the SRo AC implemented as a fixed spawn chance at 9pm?

No, I do not have all the logs that prove it, but I used to farm AC a lot in Velious era, and he spawned all over the night. So no matter whether or not killing the placeholder makes any difference at night, there was definitely a way to "push" the spawn time to somewhere later at night, depending on what you did in the daytime.
Why does the wiki even link to a claim of Nilbog that "it works just like that" (regarding the revealed eqlive spawn mechanism: https://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2404804&postcount=57) when that is clearly not true (anymore)?
As things are, the p1999 AC (on green, at least) is a "newly invented" spawn loosely based on the classic ancient cyclops.
If we're inventing new spawns on p1999, can we put Quillmane on a static spawn time as well? And the gods? And dragons? Maybe just sell dragon loot for $$ directly from the staff?

They change the thing that a lot of people complain or fight over. You will have to pound sand with Quillmane.

Provide evidence that it used to work differently; that's how things get changed here.

I saw your attempts to get a more accurate wiki page. For what it's worth: the "non aggro" "a mummy" is currently not at all related to the AC. I followed it around like a puppy until 9pm, just to confirm / check whether it depops. An AC spawned at 9pm, but the "a mummy" (yes, the non aggro roamer, not the static spawn) was still up (partially why I didn't get the AC this time ;)
With regards to proving: I'd like to see the "evidence" that an AC can only spawn at 9pm, because - despite me not believing that just for people claiming it - I am now fairly certain that this is correct. I have a feeling the current mechanic was silently implemented to do someone a favor. Like leaking server spawn tables to guilds.

A live dev did a write up on the classic S Ro mechanics including plenty of details, such as spawn tables. I’m pretty sure the p1999 implementation is based on that.

Irrc h2h used to do more dmg on non monks as its skill went up.
I remember punching bears for 4-10 dmg at max skill on my wizard. And maybe it went up x5+5 for everyone?
I need to research.

If you happen to have a link, it'd be great if we could add it to the wiki, to help dispel confusion (like the OP's) in the future.

Good to know; you should edit the wiki to say as much :D

I rewrote this script based on a post from an eq developer at the time.

It should be working like this, and has been since 2013. If it is not, then create a bug report.

So there should be a placeholder? currently i thought its a 10% chance for the AC to pop at 9 pm without any killing?

Both are true. There is a placeholder; at 9pm, it depops (if it's up) and there's a 10% chance for AC to pop and 90% chance of other stuff to pop.
There's no point killing the placeholder because it will depop at 9pm, but it's fine if you kill it because it will repop at 9pm regardless.

Hmm
"There's one spawn in South Ro with a 30.66666666 minute repop time that has a 10% chance of being the ancient cyclops, but he has to spawn at night. He's on the same spawn table with a_desert_madman, a_dervish_cutthroat, a_sand_giant, and a_mummy.

That is the night spawn cycle, yeah. So you guys are saying it shouldn't depop/repop at 9pm? The dev post technically doesn't say it should! Interesting.

I've always found it interesting that it's a FTE policy as well here. No one would wait for you to finish trying alone if you were engaged on live. If you couldn't do 50% of the damage first then whoever did got to loot! That's a huge reason games like ffxi and wow that came after adopted a system where the first to engage locked the mob.

People formed groups on bertoxxulous to try to outdps solo wiz, druid farmers of the ring. And gms always favored grouped players. Giving them turns for each person grouped.
I suppose they logged in with their friends until they each got one. Or did random.
This doesn’t really happen here.
On rallos you needed a character in good standing with the ruling guilds to get one.
A lot of things aren't like live was due to population and our communities unique form of pnp.
Soloers were frowned on and not favored on live. Less people soloed. People had less good raid gear. Less time. Etc.
Maybe just sell dragon loot for $$ directly from the staff?
Who said they weren't doing that already?

Couple bans needed in here
Probably beta pixel clingers that still can't figure out AC despite having the exact mechanics posted
