View Full Version : Wisdom to Mana conversion ratio?

I've been looking for the conversion ratio for WIS to mana for a while now, and haven't been able to find one. Does anyone know if one exists, and where I might find it? It seems the stamina to hit points scale is pretty well know, so I was hoping that a wisdom to mana one existed too.

I'm wondering mainly because I'm curious at what point a piece of gear with +WIS becomes better than a piece of gear with +mana. For example, I'm wearing two different rings, a +6 wis jewelcrafted platinum jasper ring, and a +3 str +30 mana moonstone ring on my level 41 cleric. Are they about equivalent, or is one better than the other in terms of pure mana? And at what level might that change?

Thanks for any info!

I don't have the answer you seek. But on my 57 cleric I replaced my 6 wis ring with a 5 wis +15 mana ring and went up 2 points total. I have sun 200 wis. If that helps any.

Rygar did a lot of research on this:

Basically up to 200 wis it's 12 mana per wis (at 60) and then 1 mana per after. So, get 200 wis and then focus on +mana items (though apparently there's a cap on how much +mana you can get from items).

Here is a bit of background information first:
1. There is a soft cap on mana gains from INT/WIS. What that means is once you go over the soft cap, the amount of mana you get per point of INT/WIS is reduced.
2. The soft cap for all classes when it comes to gaining mana via INT/WIS is 200. When you have 201+ WIS/INT, you are getting reduced gains.
3. Once you hit 255 WIS/INT, you stop gaining mana from WIS/INT, even if you would go over 255 in terms of total stat points.

For the first test I conducted, I am using my level 60 Shaman:
1. At 199 WIS, my total Mana is 2891. When I reduce my WIS by 60, my total Mana becomes 2056. This is after taking into account the extra 160 direct Mana points I am getting from my items. This means the calculation is (2891-2056-160)/60 = 11.25 Mana per point into WIS under 200.
2. At 222 WIS, my total Mana is 3181. When I reduce my WIS by 20, my total Mana becomes 2999. This is after taking into account the extra 70 direct Mana points I am getting from my items. This means the calculation is (3181-2999-70)/20 = 5.6 Mana per point into WIS over 200.
3. Since 5.6 is basically half of 11.25, my guess is the real ratio is exactly half (5.625), but they round down to 0 if under 0.5, and round down to 0.5 if over 0.5.

For the second test, I am using my level 24 Cleric:
1. At 134 WIS, my total Mana is 748. When I reduce my WIS by 20, my total Mana becomes 643. This is after taking into account the extra 15 direct Mana points I am getting from my items. This means the calculation is (748-643-15)/20 = 4.5 Mana per point into WIS under 200.
2. I do not have the ability to get my Cleric over 200 WIS at this point, but I do not believe it is necessary for this test.
3. 24/60 = 0.4. When you multiply 11.25 by 0.4, you get 4.5, which is the same value we got above. This means Mana scales linearly from 1-60.
4. This also means Clerics and Shamans have the same ratio of mana gains.

So for Clerics and Shamans at least, the formula appears to be:
1. 0.1875 * WIS * LEVEL = Mana gained while under 200 WIS
2. (0.1875 * WIS * LEVEL)/2 = Mana gained while over 200 WIS

That’s why velious aiming intelligence casters will usually invest starting points to stamina or if an enchanter charisma because intelligence maxes rather quickly when you are at the furthest end of the game.

However it is important to remember that most people won’t get best in slot gear so may want to consider a more standard point allocation.

I did another few tests with my Shaman, all under 200 WIS. Reducing 100 WIS got me 11.2 mana per WIS. Reducing my WIS by 10 got me 11.3 mana per WIS. Reducing my WIS by 5 got me 11.6 mana per WIS. Reducing my WIS by 2 got me 11.0 mana per WIS. It looks like the mana per WIS calculation fluctuates between 11 and 12 mana per WIS at level 60, depending on how the rounding works out. 11.6 was the highest I saw, but I could not test a +1, a +6, a +8, or a +9 WIS item to see what the results were. So I am assuming right now 11.6 is the highest it will go, and 11.0 is the lowest.

For Clerics and Shamans the formula for AVERAGE mana gained per WIS is:
1. 0.1883333 * WIS * LEVEL = Mana gained while under or at 200 WIS
2. (0.1883333 * WIS * LEVEL)/2 = Mana gained while over 200 WIS

This will be a little bit off, depending on how the rounding works out. For OP's specific example, a +6 WIS item on a 41 Cleric should give roughly 46 Mana, + or - a point or two.

Wow, some really great information here. Thank you so much for sharing it! I had been hoping for a general rule of thumb on the conversion, but getting actual formulas is perfect. Now I can decide on gear choices with actual knowledge, rather than fumbling around in the dark and hoping for the best.
