Personally I've seen the BBC (very left) manipulate pictures of riots in London to cut out the part of a photo where a protestor has a machete raised in the air against the police, and I've seen some fairly bad misinformation going around Facebook and other news sources from both sides. I think its in the video somewhere... the interviewee states that people are unable to come to sensible conclusions anymore, despite a wealth of facts or evidence that's put before them. That's where the media can come in and clear up any grey areas... depending which brand of news you want to hear you can put yourself in one camp or the other - divisions form where there was once relative peace and each side bounces off each other until there's an explosion.

Progress to some is like regression to others, again... tune in to find out what your news brand is saying on that.

I personally think the reason there is so much misinformation to filter through is because the access people have to supplyhing it.

Turning on the TV or looking at the internet, even on the top news outlets, is tentamount to walking down the street in the old days when people were just standing on a box yelling about whatever random idea they had.

We have to sift through everyone's crazy ideas, even on the top 5 news networks, it's all just become glorified soap box ranting.

Like, to me the news has become more like what I imagine a prophet in the old days would be like, than what I would define as journalism.

All of those things are already eminently possible for all citizens of the US. Poor african immigrants come to this country and become incredibly wealthy year after year. Please see statistics regarding immigrants from ghana and somalia.

To be fair, this is a mischaracterization of the AI standard and the rationale behind it. First, you don’t need to be an AI to buy many public stocks.

The AI standard applies to private funds and private stocks. And the reason it exists is that the SEC wants to ensure people with less money are more protected so that they don’t go out and buy into higher risk situations. The idea is that someone below the AI threshold is 1. Less financially able to bear the risk of the loss of their investment and 2. Potentially less sophisticated from a financial knowledge standpoint and therefore might not be able to fully analyze the investment and it’s risks. The AI standard isn’t some scheme by the rich to keep themselves as the only people able to buy private stocks and funds...trust me; as an example, the rich want as many people as possible to be able to buy shares in their hedge funds haha

This is kind of nonsensical. If you're not an AI, you usually wouldn't even have enough money to make those investments. A company issuing private stock isn't taking your $10k. They're not interested. It's actually more burdensome for them from an operational and administrative perspective to take that money. So for the most part the opportunities wouldn't be there regardless.

Oh and also, you talk about all these rich people getting these bigger returns, but what you don't realize is they have made a ton of investments where they have lost some or all of their investment. Private investments are inherently risky and many don't make any money at all. Someone who has a ton of money has the bankroll to ride that risk wave though and take the hits until they find the investments that are generating 20%+ IRR. If you don't have a bunch of money already, you'll likely go bankrupt before you hit on a big return. It's like playing Blackjack, for example; the bigger your bankroll the longer you can survive losses and hit on those couple big hands.
