View Full Version : I’m moving to Texas

Well gents, I’ve decided to pull the trigger and move to Texas. I’m closing up my business here in Southwest Washington state and starting all over again.

We have 5 acres picked out just west of Fort Worth and are flying out to see it in a couple weeks. If I play my cards right, I can sell my house here and build a new one there while eliminating about $250,000 of debt.

There’s just been too much crazy liberal shit going on around here for me to stay any longer. For years I’ve put up with it, with the mindset that “all areas have their issues”. The thought of restarting my business over again also kept me from making the move. Leaving extended family and friends will be hard, but my kids are young enough that I don’t think they will be affected much.

Wish me luck

I have a friend that just moved there, texas is very pro trump and most people there dont want to deal with bullshit and are generally very nice and respectful.

Its going to be hot tho, hope you are able to kick up income and make it work, going on a big adventure is a huge step.

Sounds like heaven to me.

As someone who has been all over the US, grew up in an extremely wealthy (and Republican) part of California, and moved to South Carolina for graduate school, be careful that you're not idealizing this place.

Texas was a slave state, and it shows today... demographically... The deep south is essentially an apartheid state. While there are no physical walls, there are economic and institutional ones. The result is vast swathes of urban and rural decay that you need to be at least moderately wealthy to avoid.

In my opinion, having lived in both, Southern states are quite simply poorly run. Republicans do not know how to govern, and even if they did, they are incapable of producing enough revenue to do it properly, because conservatives have been hilariously duped into believing that the taxation that fuels public services is evil. Be ready for crumbling infrastructure, terrible roads, and shitty schools. Of course you won't agree but that's my biased perspective.

I hope you are wealthy. Parts of the South, as well as parts of Texas, can be affordable. But they are affordable for a reason. Be ready for your kids to get gangbanged and have classmates dancing on their desks unless you can afford to send them to a private school or place yourself in a higher COL area. Who knows though, if you're coming from rural Washington, it might not be so different.

If you're a Trump supporter you'll probably love it. Be ready for endless conversations about trucks, deer hunting, guns, and other riveting topics.

Essentially an apartheid state, lol. Just, ya know, not at all.

If you believe an area can be fairly described as "apartheid" by some loose elastic definition of the word that includes things like economic disparity, opposing things like "gentrification" which leftists love to bloviate on and on about seems like a good strategy to keep it that way.

I also literally don't know a single conservative who opposes taxation funding basic public infrastructure or services. Not one. I think you yourself have been hilariously duped into thinking that's how they think. They are generally opposed to what they view as exorbitant or unfair taxation. And I'm not even a conservative, I just listen to what they actually say about the topic.

The problem of shitty public schools and crumbling infrastructure are true of almost every single democrat-controlled city or urban center. Detroit, chicago, baltimore, philadelphia. All heavily, heavily democrat and have been for decades. It's delusional to attribute those sorts of conditions to republicans when it's so plainly at odds with what anyone can go see with their own eyes in these places.

I don’t drink or smoke so it doesn’t matter to me.

Property taxes are higher, but overall real estate is cheaper, so it averages out.

Texas has no income tax FYI.

Taxes are a lesser reason for why I’m leaving. Regulation is really bad here in WA state. Try getting a building permit here and you’ll know what I’m talking about. Boeing has left Washington for greener pastures. BTW Boeing is/was the states largest employer.

Indoctrination of college students by activist professors is bad enough but I can deal with it cause the students are at least adults. Activist indoctrination in elementary school, which *is* happening in mega far left areas already, is a bridge too far for me- and I don't even have kids. If I did, I'm sure I'd be even more opposed to it.

No, I don't want my potential future kid to learn about how math is patriarchal and favors "whiteness". Teach fuckin multiplication tables or gtfo.

This kind of indoctrination has been going on for a long time. I remember 25+ years ago, one of my liberal teachers scolding kids for having blue mohawks because it was cultural appropriation from the Indians. Another teacher literally spent the whole school day (6+ hours) telling us about how guns are bad and freak her out. Not to mention the countless hours teachers have spent on telling me why capitalism is unfair and how socialism rules!

Again, no thanks. I cant believe I have stuck it out for this long here. Idaho was my 2nd choice, but I prefer to be somewhere warmer,

Washington is not a great place to live anymore. Too bad too, because the state is gorgeous. And Seattle metro was a wonderful place to live up until the mid-90s.

The illiberal left is letting Seattle turn into a third world country. Vagrant drug addicts (aka unhoused neighbors) can shoplift with impunity and literally shit on the streets in broad daylight and the police can't do anything.

Meanwhile, you leave the three counties where people can read, it's all Trumptards and meth-addled hillbilly bullshit.

moving from WA state to TX. FOR HIS KIDS. gives me the shivers to contemplate lol. Your kids could have been friends with a Wozniak kid in school but I guess John T. Roughneck's spawn is better for their future, what with the reduced amount of gay. Better put fancy locks on your doors, it's back to home invasion country. And the blacks in the south love to slice up a pretty White face after/during the rape so keep an eye on your wife and daughter once she hits 12. I assume you are ignorant of the ruthless race crime of the south and southwest and I sincerely hope you are spared a touch by it. I've had close friends raped, mutilated and murdered. And the murder rate's up. But so is the gay, so I respect ur decision.

Dawkins is (well, was) brilliant. Selfish Gene changed my life as a scientist. However I would define Dawkins as a molecular biologist and "the father of evolutionary biology" -- I wouldn't confine him to the ebio thing. Ebio, particularly the pop-explanatory ebio you might see on YouTube weighing in on gender wars stuff, tends to be looked down upon in the harder-science community as it's comprised of convenient easy narratives which are not typically falsifiable, while being a substantially easier academic track than hard biology or chemistry which would impart the same info. Think nurse vs doctor. It's a far cry from coining a very important piece of vocabulary and putting into words a concept that allows many people to abstract reality into a way more mathematic type of matrix, to say "men hunt & women nest" in fifty ways and get involved in pay gap conversations, instead of taking your education in something closely related but of substance, dont you think? :p

It's actually a bit of information from a hard-science ivy league education i'm sharing with you. Not sure why you address me like a CC gender studies grad. Did you type me based on my gender identity? Can you try and engage me with a little more granularity please? I'm pretty far right and my hair's not pink. We've engaged enough that you should know this by now, but as I've learned in so doing, there's a bit of a bird brain thing going on there so I will try to limit my indignation.

I'm also further right than you, which means I don't eat from a fox news trough and type everyone not drinking the kool-aid as a liberal because I see what you are. I think you think "evolutionary biology" is the same as biology, with evolution. No wonder you are confused.

Evolutionary Biology is a not a centuries-old field, but roughly and merely a subdiscipline which seeks to make arguments for the selection pressures that influenced the evolutionary process. Wiki says it emerged in the 30s, I was thinking more like 70s because I do think Dawkins popularized it as a discipline (yeah 80s even). Hard scientists tend to chuckle at e-bio grads, as they could have obtained a sturdier education but opted for softer classes. A typical courseload goes into the 200s-300s level in biology, but offloads the more stringent chemistry courses which serve to filter out "real" science undergrads for English, communication, and technical writing skills. Generally an e-bio graduate is someone who washed out of Organic Chemistry and had to downgrade their degree one step closer to liberal arts. In short, an evolutionary biologist is no molecular biologist, chemical engineer, medical doctor, etc but something approaching a science communicator in practice. Like Bill Nye or something.

In pop science, the only purpose Evolutionary Biology serves is to deliver cute narratives about biology infused with politics, a la what Freud did for psychology. You're way off and you're also a prick, so eat shit. You said "my identity depends on" this (no idea why it would btw, in fact I modified my biology to be more in line with my identity so nah exact opposite), so I'm not buying your backpedaling from being downright vicious. Or pretending that I'm the one who brought my identity up. I dont need to know whats in ur pants!!! Classic. Knowing you do have a sense of shame makes this an extra big Yikes Dude.

As for the gender stuff, you brought it up. And we both know why. I did not take gender studies. I have degrees in molecular biology and neuroscience from an elite institution and taught you something about detecting grifters and separating them from pros. And your comeback is "your a tranny". You are a low-info, low-IQ, vicious poster. I'm right and you are wrong while being abject pondscum. If you don't like being what you are, be nicer and maybe listen up the next time I dunk you on politics too.

Did I say they don't? That's not exactly what I'm talking about.

Watch the clip that is played at 8:16 in this. If you don't find any issue at all with what is happening in this school I'm not sure what to say.

Link should skip right to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imb7TyVhwQ8&t=496

These people are deranged. It's not the job of an educator to teach students what to think, especially not 8 year olds. They are supposed to teach them *how* to think. And it doesn't help that they all have the most irritatingly retarded sounding airhead valley girl accents.

I'm just a highly educated str8 normie who happens to be trans, not your disgusting gender studies boogieman you dumbfuck hick. Guess what? I don't even know what demisexual means. Bet you do, fagg0t. You're completely blinded by bigotry even after interacting with me here for months. You're an honest-to-goodness piece of shit in addition to being downright stupid, which I know you know you are.

I'm also further right than you, which means I don't eat from a fox news trough and type everyone not drinking the kool-aid as a liberal because I see what you are. Not conservative in any sense of the word. Just a member of the Hate Party trailing an intellectual leash held by globalist billionaires. Eat shit and drink piss you miserable little fuck. I swear that I can feel that you're 5'8" through the text btw, let me know if I'm wrong.

You should move to Lubbock. It's a nice college town that's more conservative than the other cities in the state. Dallas/Ft. Worth area is going to be the last metroplex holdout for the conservatives in the state since a lot of you West-Yankees shitted up Austin, San Antonio, the Hill Country, and are moving more east to Dallas / Ft. Worth and Houston.

BTW, Lune was right about the state of public education in Texas. We're consistently in the mid-30's for rankings, but that's because former governor Rick Perry instituted the policy of "fudging" numbers at the school level. I highly recommend researching the school to prison pipeline politics for the area you're moving to because you will have to encounter it with your children's education, private school or not.

Storm cellar's and basements are extremely rare in Texas due to the expensive costs involved. The topsoil in Texas is very minimal in most places and you hit caliche within a few inches, then straight rock about 3 feet down.

Everyone in Texas uses air conditioner everywhere. Ft. Worth is a slightly lower income side of Dallas, and therefore more crime involved etc. You will be at the southern portion of Tornado Alley but it's rare and not a big priority.

On the plus side, everyone is utilizing their 2nd Amendment rights to bear arms and this actually deters all but the most stupid of criminals/activists. I don't know what that person was referring too in regards to your children leaving white people blah blah ignorant talk blah blah...but there are people of all heritages and cultures in Texas and it is quite diverse. The Tex-Mex food is delicious and yes, there is an actual difference in Tex-Mex versus Mexican food. Cumin and Cilantro are not native to Mexico. The King of Spain declared many families of the Azore isles Nobility and moved them to San Antonio to help "keep the gringos out" and they brought these spices with them, hence, Tex-Mex.

The Spring and Fall seasons are quite comfortable, while the winters are mild and the summer's hot. Keep in mind people in Texas don't know how to drive with ice/snow on the roads so there will be lots of accidents and that's why most schools close whenever there is ice on the roads.

Overall Texas is a wonderful state with lots to do and I think you'll find it enjoyable for the most part. No state income tax is a great thing too.

Cheers!

Oh, keep in mind Flood Zones when choosing your property. Flooding is major problem in Texas every few years and most people don't think about this before choosing their property, only to see it washed away in 10 years.

Get into the habit of checking your shoes for scorpions before you put them on. Had a relative from the Dallas area who got a hospital stay on account of a scorpion having taken up residence in her footwear.

Beyond that, it seems like a nice enough area when I've visited the region in the past. The drive-through fast food joints were of superior quality to a lot of the sit-down restaurants here in OH. Might explain the obesity rates, all the food was dramatically better than around here.

Fat is a choice, and people make that choice everywhere

also its too expensive in most of florida to retire here

you say that from Florida.

The overall obesity rate in USA is 42.4%, which is carried by certain states, so you aren't anywhere close to bein truthful. TX is THE FATTEST, or at least it was a few years ago. I can go to a grocery store around here and not see a single obese, or maybe just 1 and 2 clinicals who barely qualify. I've lived in the south so don't lie to me.

Then the people who voted politicians into power in those areas, dislike the consequences and move to more traditional areas in america. However they pack up their ideals and bring them with them. Once they're establish in the new area they start trying the cycle all over again.
