Welcome to Project 1999 Raffle and Festivities
Where: Greater Faydark
When:Thursday May 19th
7:30-8:30 ET (Eastern Time, whatever time it currently is in New York City) PM : Organize and hand out raffle tickets
8:30 - 10:00 ET(Eastern Time) PM : Festivities!
Due to the recent influx of new players and the release of the Kunark expansion, I've decided upon holding an event to celebrate and come together to enjoy the game for one of many reasons we hold it dear...community. As I can think of no other type of celebration that would be enjoyed by all more than one involving giving away FREE prizes, I've settled on a raffle.
But this won't be just a raffle, not by a long shot. I'm going to also have:
Duels - Preferred lowbie/mid-range, we'll find partners around same level range and duke it out! Winner take all, including a prize!
Footrace - We'll select two participants who will run to a secret location away from the group, open trade with Adrastea (who will be assisting me in organizing the festivities), then run back as fast as they can and use the item in front of me. Last one back is a rotten egg.
Scavenger Hunt - I'll be asking the entire crowd to participate and search high and low in the Greater Faydark for...something? More to be revealed during the event!
But now down to the main draw for the event! The Raffle! All tickets that I give out for the raffle are 100% guaranteed FREE!! I'll have a few rules regarding the divying out of prizes for the raffle though:
1) Only ONE ticket per individual, so when I give you your number, hold it dear and pray for luck!
2) In order to honor the spirit of the event that I would like to hold, nobody level 50+ will be eligible for prizes. I'm sorry :(. My aim is to have this be for the newer players upon our server, to meet people and maybe get a new item to throw on their shoulders as they climb the ranks towards those of us veterans. This isn't to say you're not welcome! Please come and enjoy, any and all lvls are welcome!
3) There will be one Grand Prize of 5000pp, all who receive a raffle ticket are eligible for this prize. There will also be ~30+ smaller prizes along the way. If you win a smaller prize you won't be able to win another small prize, BUT you ARE still eligible for the Grand Prize at the end!
Now to the fun part! The prizes will include...
5000pp Grand Prize!!
Black Sapphire Necklace
Froglok Bonecaster Robe
Reed Belt
Acid Etched War Sword
Burynai Legion Gi
Golden Chitin Bracer
Green Jade Broadsword
Short Sword of the Ykesha
Sword of Skyfire
Robe of the Oracle
Tattered Mantle
Braided Cinch Cord
Skull-shaped Barbute
Platinum Ruby Veil
Charred Guardian Shield
Sebilite Scale Neckguard
And many many more!
Update - I've found my Wizard! Tarnot will be in The East Commonlands tunnel on Thursday evening from 6:45 - 8:30 ET (Eastern Time) shuttling people over to Greater Faydark FREE OF CHARGE and when the event finishes he will be shuttling you right back to West Commonlands for all needing it, also FREE! So for those lowbies thinking "Awww shucks I'd love to go but it's all the way over in Gfay, how would I get there AND back?!" now you can without a single worry!
I look forward to seeing many new faces, and there will be plenty of beer, cake and FIREWORKS to go around.
Any and all questions, concerns or comments - do not hesitate to post on this thread, send me a PM or just contact me in game!

To try and accomodate those players who may be on CST/MST/PST, whichever, I've moved the time back for which I'll be handing out raffle tickets. Now this isn't to say that if you arrive at 8:42 and explain your plight to me I won't give you a number, but please try and be there by 8:30 ET (Eastern Time) if possible. If not for any reason but to be there in time for the festivities!
Also...I've upped the Grand Prize to 5000pp!

I will be there on my level 5 monk Knukkle.
Are those times on EST or EDT? Cause most of the world is on Daylight time now. I assume I know the answer but its a pet peeve of mine :P . One of my characters will be there, as they are all lowbies. :)

Thanks for doing this Kraftwerk. Looks awesome.
Also I think we should all thank Ennoia for shining light on the little-known fact that bards are able to enhance their run speed! Ennoia basically saved this event imo.

How much are raffle tickets?
The times are in EST.
As a resident of Indiana which until recently didn't observe daylight time (and I think Arizona and a few other places still don't), I think you should read this: http://mybiggestcomplaint.com/standard-vs-daylight-time
'Cause I have a feeling I'm going to show up an hour early unless you're sure you mean Standard Time, in which case 98% of everyone is going to show up an hour late.

A few more updates/addressing concerns:
1) I didn't realize that the time zone would cause such concern, but to *hopefully* alleviate any and all confusion I am using ET, Eastern Time, whatever time it currently is in New York City, click here - http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=179 and if this says 7:30 PM on Thursday May 19th, be in Greater Faydark getting your raffle ticket =). I hope I don't sound facetious because I am being genuine, I don't want anyone to miss out on the fun due to something so silly as not knowing when it is being held. If anyone remains confused as to when I will be having the event do not hesitate to PM me please. I wouldn't want anyone missing out.
2) Raffle Tickets are 100% FREE! All you have to do is be under lvl 50, show up and wait in line. Everyone can only have one number though, so any prizes given away through the raffle will fall completely on Lady Luck.
3) Malrubius - punt away!
I am loving the thread tags as well :). I lol'd a bit at "scam" since I'm giving items out in exchange for nothing :p
Awesome, this sounds like a wonderful idea for us very new people. Will definitely be making my way there!!! Thanks ahead of time for an awesome event.

Thursday is finally here! I'm very excited for this evening and wanted to provide a few more details:
First - The exact location the Raffle will be held at is the Abandoned Druid Ruins in Greater Faydark to the east of Kelethin. This location is accessible and convenient to all races and classes (remember, Tarnot will be shuttling people from EC to Gfaydark so you can either get to Gfay on your own or make your way to EC where Taxi service will begin at 6:45 Eastern Time)!
Second - Since I love giving away things, I'll let everyone know what the FIRST and LAST raffles prizes will be. First prize to commence the event will be a check for 2000pp made out to the lucky winner! The final grand prize of course will be 5000pp!
I am looking forward to seeing many new faces tonight and hope that this will be a HUGE success!

The way the raffle will work is everyone will receive a single ticket containing two numbers. You must keep this ticket close and when I announce a raffle roll is taking place listen intently. If your number is drawn you must claim the prize within 30 seconds or I will be forced to roll again.
/ooc I will send you a tell with your individual Big Raffle number, ie 104, and your individual Class Raffle number (class meaning Melee / Int Caster / Wis caster) and have your name and numbers logged on an excel spreadsheet I am keeping open on my right monitor. The Big Raffle number will be used in rolls for the cash prizes and 40 other surprise items, after winning a single item in this group you will not be eligible for another prize from this group. The Class Raffle number will be used for 3 items that are very specific (and highly valued) to those roles, if you win a Big Raffle item you are still eligible for one of these items.
Also, everyone regardless of prizes won will be eligible for the final Grand Prize of 5000pp.
I hope that clears up any questions. Keep in mind I will also be giving prizes to duel winners, race winners and one special prize for the scavenge hint winner.
I will be in Greater Faydark at the abandoned Druid ring east of Kelethin giving out raffle tickets in 2 hours and 30 minutes. The festivities will begin 1 hour after I begin giving out numbers. I look forward to seeing everyone there!

I am currently available to provide ports from places other than East Commonlands. Send me a tell with where I can meet you (any major city is fine, as well as any spire). I can do ports from various places until the official shuttle begins at 6:45, at which point my focus will be transport from EC.

Nice event - Especially in the beginning when all were well behaved - oh there were a few loudmouths being obnoxious, but all in all a good crowd. Thanks to Kraft for keeping everything orderly till the end when a few malcontents had to try to ruin it.
Only thing I would have done differently is to break up the prizes more so more people had a chance to get something. I know that even a 500 plat prize would have made a massive difference in my life - obviously 2500 or 5k is nice - but walking away with no prize at all was not so great - the things that were bulked together as 3 and 4 piece kits - any true new person would have been happy with just one thing out of the batch.

I just wanted to say that this event went better than I could have ever hoped for. The list of people I'd love to thank is entirely too long (The event saw approximately 180 people show up and boy was I not prepared for that!) But we did it! Specifically I want to thank the below people:
Adrastea and Tigranis - You helped me spread the word. Hand out beer, Organize people, Set up duels. I'm missing so much, but the point is that if you both hadn't helped me this just plain would not have happened. I was not expecting nearly 200 people and was almost overwhelmed. But with your help we made this happen!
Tarnot - The most professional porter around, he took people all over the place!
Mustaza - Your donation of 5000p made everyone's day to have more great prizes!
Woodelfw - Your donations of dozens of items really helped make this great, I'm glad someone else shares my spirit in this game =)
And a special shout out to a young Druid Renzotama who just joined the server yesterday. He was absolutely amazing. While I had my head down giving out ticket numbers he took the initiative to guide people in the right direction who were asking questions when I couldn't necessarily answer. He helped keep people in ooc when I needed to use shout. All around, awesome guy. If you see Renzotama around, give him a wave or take him in group if he is LFG. You would benefit from being around this guy =)
I will be posting pictures tommorow, dead tired now.
Angrybob - won Black Sapphire Necklace
Iksane - won 5000pp (great guy just joined server and died 4 times during the event haha)
Ulivara - won the FBCR and put it on immediately =)
Doum - won a nice Reed Belt
I'm forgetting tons of winners, but we all had such a killer time! Thanks to everyone for making it happen.
PS - Funniest part of the night was the guards being trained immediately after Iksane won the roll for 5000pp. It capped the evening off nicely.

Don't worry Aangus, there are lots I would have done differently too =(. This was my first largescale event I held and as the night wore on I felt the pressure of time constraints and general unease in the crowd. I needed to rush the raffles a bit and group items together so we could get to big ticket items and end at reasonable hour. Of the approximately 160-170+ who showed up, ~53 won prizes. I'm very happy with those numbers. I've learned a lot for next time though!

I had a great time. Thanks to Kraftwerk, Adrastea for organizing this and everyone who donated.
The duels were interesting ;) Too bad most duels just take too long for a event like this. I was waiting to get slaughtered by phiffen (25 rogue), but my number didn't get called. Maybe next time.
I could have did without the guard train at the end though, but I was kind of expecting that. Wish I would have remembered to stay feigned towards the end of the event.
I was surprised at how organized people were in the line. Can't say I've really seen that in a game before.
I did win an obsidian shard (lucky 37) thanks for that!
All in all a fun time and a unique event rarely seen in games anymore if ever. Stuff like this is the reason I play an 12 year old game. Maybe when I reach a higher level i'll be able to donate some stuff myself.

Kraftwerk and co., just wanted to say that you put on an AMAZING event. Everyone had fun and there were many, many winners all around. It is exactly this type of positive experience that make this game incredible, personal, and just damn fun. This one will last in our memories for years to come!
I'd love to see those more adept at posting a SS or two of the "circle of trust" around Kraftwerk when he was running the show. There were 152 participants in the raffles and around 168 or so in GFay at the peak.

Hello, everyone!
Just a quick note to thank everyone for turning what was initially the brainchild of a very generous Kraftwerk into a wonderfully robust on-line event. I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's festivities, and truly hope a good time was had by all.
I remain amazed at how overwhelmingly polite and generous everyone was, both in community interactions, and tells to me personally. Although some of you unfortunately walked away from the event without a prize, most everyone retains my admiration and affection.
I do wish to apologize to those duel pairings who never got the opportunity to prove their might. As the event progressed, time simply did now allow for the overwhelming number of people who wanted to crush, kill, and destroy one another within the safe circle of their fellow players.

O.O Thank you, i didn't do a whole lot i'd suppose, just thought that you might have needed assistance with all that work and the giant line. Haha, thanks for the welcome on my second day ^_^
As for the event, it was something to see for myself. Thousands of plat were handed out as well as some amazing items. Its great to see such a community alive and thriving around this cheerful game. I'd have to thank Kraftwerk for the opportunity, and Tigranis and Adrastea, as those three did all the real work in the event.
Oh and do not let me forget about Tarnot for porting me to the event to begin with! I would never have made it otherwise!

Just to be clear Orsk was joking about having delvled. He was a lvl 49 warrior though. And to clarify a little more, Orsk did win a Torquiose Eyepatch. He then ran to the bank and came back with the Eyepatch and another item from his own stash and traded them to me saying "Give this to someone else who needs it more." Boy, what a rotten high level player ruining the lowbies fun!
And also, you're right there was another twink there who won. Vladiimir was a twinked low lvl warrior. He won a duel and thus a pair of Cobalt Boots. Vladiimir then went on to give those boots to a lvl 19 Ogre warrior wearing bronze. What a scoundrel! ;)
The misgivings of a handful of cynics aside (who for whatever reason I suspect came just not wanting to have fun) this was a great success and what I saw at least was people who won items they either didn't need or couldn't use handing them down to those who could. Iksane even handed down his old Green Silken Drape to Elola who he beat in a duel after winning his new Oracle Robe. These are the types of things I really saw and the types of things that made me so feel glad to have followed through with this event.

I had an amazing time last night at this event. Getting drunk in the long line, watching duels, watching bards run the completely wrong direction to Crushbone entrance, winning a duel and getting a sweet Burnyai Legion Gi for my cleric Eldred. It was amazing to see that many people in a zone that I started in back in 1999. I think that was the most people I've ever seen in one zone at one time. The event went extremely well. I took a lot of screenshots so I'll have to try to post some up when I get home.
Thanks again to Kraftwerk and everyone else who donated, organized, and attended! I love this game and this server.

Its Zipadee - and let me tell you he had us line up "behind" him and we were facing the wrong direction - its hilarious because your natural instinct is to just bust out straight ahead and go crazy and then as i neared the lift i was like "ah crap" it was hilarious and all of the people on ventrilo with me were laughing at me - it was a blast. I was really looking forward to drunken kelethin races.

It was great to watch either way. And yeah he did start you both out facing the wrong direction. LOL
Yes, the best part of the night, other than the awesome community hanging out, was watching the two bards run the wrong way. I know I'm brand new, an Iksar, and haven't played in 6 years, but even I know where the entrance to Crushbone is =).
Congrats to everyone on their items. I have gotten several tells what I am going to use the 5k for. Honestly, no idea. I have a mage friend, and a druid friend, that started playing this game with me. So going to more than likely spend a small amount of it on getting all 3 of us a few pieces of good starter gear (any suggestions would be greatly appreciated).
It was hilarious because the first person to win the 5k wasn't online. I was like, "Sweet, another chance." Right as I thought that to myself, I saw 2 guards, who then decided to pummel my face in. I spawn back in FoB, where I was bound, and immediately get around 15 to 20 congrats tells. Pretty awesome night, even if I did lose a bubble of exp between my three deaths.

Howdy,
I Just wanted to say thank you to Kraftwerk and the others for my 2 prizes last night! The monk weps did a lot to help me trade for some much needed gear upgrades. Hopefully next time we can get some more duels in cause I was really looking forward to dueling Krivin the 20 cleric.
~Cheers,
Grodd "young gorilla"
Thank you kraft for an awesome night. It was cool to see all the people out n about, i havent seen so many people (outside of the bazaar on live) in one zone.. prolly ever. Id say it was a huge success, and hopefully it changed some peoples mind about what they can do with their wealth in a game like this. You made a lot of peoples night. :D

Just wanted to add another thank you to Zalmo, I had completely forgotten he was giving away his own items the whole time people waited in line for the big raffle numbers. Thanks Zalmo for keeping everyone in line occupied :)
And to anyone who may have sent me tells throughout the night, if I did not respond to you in a timely manner or at all I am so very sorry I was more swamped than I've ever been in this game :)

Had all kinds of stuff taking up bank space, your event seemed like a perfect chance to pass it along :)
Was hilarious watching the tell spam as people toss out their guesses haha. The tell audio trigger sounded like a heavy machine gun. Example of the tell spam:

Took like 20 seconds to get all those tells, and there's another 20 or so more guesses cut off at the bottom lol
Was tons of fun. Amazing turn out. Can't even begin to imagine how swamped you must have been Kraft, but you kept everything flowing nice and smooth. :)
I think the image works now. http://www.lolzilla.net/images/8814217.jpg if not.
I want to give a big LOLout to the people who started sending me tells with guesses after I announced the guessing game but before I had even linked any items or thought of any numbers. Gave me a good laugh :D

As promised more pictures from my point of view. Please disregard my awful UI choices and just enjoy the content :)
This was approximately 30 minutes before I even started handing out raffle tickets

This was the line that formed quite quickly

And then Elola dieing

The big circle that formed around my loyal pet Jibaner so that I could more easily organize duels and hand out prizes!

After the scavenger hunt everyone ran back into one large mass of people, as you can see they tore my clothes off for a chance at the 5000pp final prize!

The event was a lot of fun, it really brought me back to the days of 1999 and 2000 when on the live servers they hosted the big halloween events with the nightmare pumpkins in the Karana's one year and then werewolves in the commonlands the next. Those types of things are what really made EQ come alive for me, and I just want to say thank you to Kraftwerk, who was the man responsible for organizing this whole thing. First time in my gaming history that I've seen a community hosted event like this be successful. Amazing job! Even though I didn't win anything at the raffle, thanks to everyone else who made this possible. Really, you're making this game such a better place to be hanging out every day. I like each and every one of you.
I would also like to apologize if anybody happens to remember a little outburst that I performed following the giving away of certain prizes to certain people. It just made me mad that so many people that already had so many things stood in line in front of other people that have literally 200 plat to their name (or less), with no qualms about taking whatever they "won". I'm really sorry that I acted the way I did. It was immature and stupid, and I hope that if anybody was upset at what I said, they can forgive it and we can play together peacefully.
Here is a cool little "wheres waldo" type thing if anybody wants, but instead this is going to be "Where's Neto?!" A little halfling druid wearing a small scarab bp, small scarab helm, a Scimitar in all 3 of the big circle pics Kraftwerk just posted. Find all 3 and be the first to /tell me in game and ill give you 50p! :D

Thanks a ton Kraft for the shout out. I actually signed that dual up between me and Ragansi as a twink duel, thinking it wouldn't last long. But I had no intentions of keeping any winnings, as I knew I was there just to see everyone have a good time and show some well needed camaraderie!
I know in the end it sucked if you didn't win, but in essence, of the 50 or so people that won something, if it hadn't been for the kindness in Kraft's heart, no one would have had a shot at ANYTHING. Winning or losing, everyone can agree it was a great night and a great way to meet up with people.
I can guarantee that once I attain level 50+, I'll certainly be helping out with events like this =)

Wish I could have gone. I just got home at 7:15pm and I was stuck in Kunark at the time. Boat trip would have easily taken an hour from OT >.<
I can't believe how many people showed up though... Thanks for hosting this; nice to see this sort of thing go on =)
BTW, Just out curiosity.. who won the big jackpot?...and how many people were twinks? :( I see a lot of them in the pictures hehe.
